I'd love to hear how this exact issue is not what we see from Tech Elites. And don't say facts. Fact is social media is merely one example of Tech making human well being worse. Mass resource extraction is another side effect of Tech Utopianism. Microplastics, etc etc. They all started with a smart person who ignored second and third order consequences so they could have the same thrill of smug self-righteousness.
I understand the emotional reaction to someone acting smug, but how can someone who holds the opposite (pessimistic) view of unregulated AGI development engage in a way you don’t find objectionable? I guess, to empathize with you all, with people who believe as I do that there is a lot to worry about with unregulated AI in the future, it must feel similar to how I experience Jehovah’s Witnesses or Mormons trying to proselytize (or change government policy).
Europe had to exploit other nations to get out of its dark ages. The reductionist approach of industrialisation is called 'standardisation' to avoid negative connotation. All your communism as well as capitalism never takes its place in any natural cycle. Even your capitalism is a form of socialism otherwise it would not have given importance to consumerism. You experiment on how to rebuild societies, you never seriously pondered the question how to take care of nature as you consider it your concubine, not your mother. Instead of teaching them risk-taking, you dehumanised masses by making them your 'risk managers'. Before AI, humanity may die of extreme weather events because of the wastage and pollution by the West. All your carbon-neutral technologies consider the carbon output only after they start getting used. As if no natural resource was used during their production. You may be succeeding in achieving your goals, but your goals are so full of narcissism.
That last quote was epic!! 🎉
