Skyrim Battles - Naaslaarum & Voslaarum vs. Miraak & Harkon, and the Ebony Warrior

- Naaslaarum and Voslaarum are two dragons appearing during the main questline of the Dawnguard DLC. They look like Revered Dragons, but their stats depend on the player's level when encountering them. They can match any non-DLC dragon from a basic level 10 Dragon up to a level 50 Ancient Dragon, or a level 62 Revered Dragon at best. In this video, they both spawn as actual Revered Dragons.
This episode was very hard to make because of a great number of issues, some of which are shown in the bloopers (link down below). Those two dragons are much more difficult to use in battles than generic ones, and getting a good recording was pretty much dependant on RNG. I made them a bit more aggressive to counter out certain bugs and inconsistencies.
That being said, I have seen Miraak and Harkon beat them easily, and I have seen the Ebony Warrior getting roasted alive. Like with almost every battle that isn't a 1 vs. 1, the results vary a lot, and every additional NPC greatly increases the randomness.
Both Miraak and Harkon are able to sometimes defeat a fire Legendary Dragon in a 1 vs. 1 match, although they both take advantage of disabling the dragon's breath attack; Miraak by using shock spells, and Harkon by using his drain life spells.
A Revered Dragon is weaker, but two at once can quickly kill Harkon due to his weakness to fire, leaving Miraak with the overwhelming task to take down both dragons. If only one attacks Harkon and the other attacks Miraak, or they both go for Miraak only, the dragons usually don't make it.
The Ebony Warrior has already beaten one fire and one frost Legendary Dragon at the same time in an earlier episode. Again, Revered Dragons are weaker, but fire is more effective against the Ebony Warrior, making this a close call if they both attack consistently. Most of the time, the Ebony Warrior clearly defeats them, although the blooper at the end shows that a different result is totally possible.

Probably one of the sickest encounters in Dawnguard for players.
Also the fights seem like an RNG fest. Sometimes one side might curbstomp the other.

They are the strongest unexpected encounter you can get in the entire game with a level that will not change for you, while Ebony Warrior will only fight you whenever you want to. Karstaag is an optional boss but these two will fight you eventually, when you need to climb that mountain. They were not that much of a challenge to me because I completed the main game before playing the DLC but I realised later that, this average challenge could have been one of the hardest if I just rushed towards these DLC quests.
You can go by the east side of the mountain and skip the 2 dragons, but if you want the word wall, you must fight them and probably take the fire potions left by the skeletons.
I always start with the DLC questlines pretty late in my playthroughs, so they were never much of a challenge for me either, but newer players who go there early can definitely get in trouble! 😂

Heh try facing them for the first time with splendour, deadly dragons, and dragons use the Thu’um (gives them a load of voiced shouts that’s pretty cool tbh) plus a couple of others I can’t recall that improve their combat AI, gives them new attacks, makes their hides almost impervious to magic attacks and arrows during flight and grants them the ability to regenerate health!
Oh and they’ll scale up to Lv150 too…
The battle took me a lot of re-thinking, re-strategising, re-arming and re-armouring - and a choice selection of some of my best swear-words - to finally beat them…
I love how Miraak and Harkon are standing there at the start, chatting like:
„You see em, right?“
„Eeyup.“
„…have you ever seen dragons do this?“
„Nope.“
„Do you have an idea how we get to them?“
„Uh uh“
„Fuck.“

It seems like they weren't even impressed by the two dragons, but they underestimated them.
In any case, the entrance of the two dragons remains incredible, it's the first time I've seen such an epic appearance! 🤩🤩🤩

1. The first time I was these things burst out of the water my face was the definition of the spongebob caveman meme, that sh!t scared me xD
2. Harkon got harkoned nothing new
3. Miraak actually lasted suprisingly long. On one hand its disappointing that the official final boss of the game can't take on the two more confidently, but on the other hand his AI probably couldn't handle it, not to mention these two are pretty tough by dragon standards since fighting them both at once is *mandatory*
Also, Miraak using his ward was actually really smart of his AI, since the stream type shouts that dragons mainly use and DoT types (Drain Vitality ,Marked for Death etc) deal tiny base damage and rely on doing *accumulative* damage. This is important since Wards function on having a damage threshold that they can block. This makes Lesser Ward or Steadfast Ward a relatively reliable and quick method for taking away a Dragon's main form of offense.
Once again, a rare instance of Miraak's AI acting how a player would.
Now if only he actually used it correctly and didn't swap spells like a squirrel on crack lol
3 Ebony Warrior slayed as per usual. Though his round demonstrated how much health and/or resistances these two have since, for a while there, they just wouldn't go down.

3. Miraak is really good, but two Revered Dragons are a huge deal even for him. You're right about the wards, they're incredibly useful against dragons! It's funny how even the weakest ward can block the most powerful dragon breath attacks. 😂
Yeah, him swapping his spells all the time is a bit of a problem. It happens with other NPCs too
All generic dragons have a perk that decreases their physical damage taken from other NPCs by 50%, so the Ebony Warrior's melee and bow attacks only do half damage (with the magic and frost damage being unaffected). Otherwise, he would kill them very quickly, but they still have plenty of health too.

Makes sense from a lore perspective as it makes The Dragonborn being able to kill these things solo more impressive (justified by his own Dragon Soul) , but it also makes it harder for regular NPCs to kill them, making them a more reasonable threat.

Nice I haven’t seen this one but real quick I have a question I’ve been thinking about returning to Skyrim battles and I have to ask do you use any mods to make these the way you do like graphics or anything
Thanks! I use the Floating Healthbars mod, and More Informative Console, which is really useful. For graphics, it's mainly Tamrielic Textures for the landscape and the Rudy HQ mods for Nordic ruins, but those aren't required. Good luck! 😄

High Seekers don't go well with dragons. 😅 Maybe 3 Lurker Vindicators. I have tried Karstaag, but it's mostly the dragons staying in the air and Karstaag running away, which is pretty terrible to watch, so I probably won't make a video from that

@@lSlendermaster Konahrik's accoutrements is a mod for dragon priests that allows rematches and adds the new ruin Revakheim, as the Dragon Forge. It is pretty tough, and at the end you can craft dragon priest armors. But the main thing is Fodiiz, a humanoid dragon priest in a fire pit, who is protecting Revakheim. He does a ton of fire damage and the arena exudes fire.

@@lSlendermaster I was also thinking, since you could give the Forsworn Briarheart better gear, could you give Jzargo better spells? He has max destruction stats, but only uses weak spells. Do you think you could give him better spells + the perks/magicka to use them?

Harkon's magicka was stunted.
It would have made no real difference
The daytime negative effects of vampirism do not work for NPCs. Their magic is restored equally both at night and during the day
The daytime debuff does affect generic vampire NPCs like Nightmasters; they won't regenerate stamina or magicka at all while the sun is out. However, Harkon is not affected. Aside from that, Harkon absorbs magicka so fast that he's usually at full magicka during the entire fight anyway 😄

The exact details are complicated. Basically, I spawn them with commands and toggle their AI to make them fight or not fight. It takes a while to learn

@@icpatt2853 Nope, sorry. 😅 I do most things with console commands, but those aren't available on consoles (ironically). There might be mods out there which let you spawn NPCs at will, but I don't really know because I don't need them
