The word pagan in Latin means rural, rustic. I watched a video from a Spaniard folklorist from Andalusia, she said that the word pagan was used as an insult from christians in the city to people who haven't adopted christianism and continued using the old religion, but it isn't the name of any ancient religion, neither any of them called themselves "pagan" because it was an insult.
they probably call it, "the religion of our ancestors"

I hope the creators of this channel are both still alive. This is a shame. I imagine this would’ve become a highly successful channel if content had continued being produced.
By the way if anyone wants an amazing book about authentic Paganism I highly recommend the book “Not In His Image” by John Lamb Lash.

Pagan comes from Latin Pagus and means Bound One, became the word Page used as a term for a servant and also was used as a term for a slave, but was adapted through French to give rise to the word Peasant. Roman Latin authors also used "Pagan" in the double meaning of "spiritual bodange" as a bad thing and "servitude" to something other than Christian theocracy. Not complicated.

Anuther definition is someone who is not christian.is about the simplest meaningi have seen any way so far. But why define it at all it is what ever it means to each individual. Don't try to explain to others who may not understand. You should not have to justify your belfs to anyone else. The only opinion that should matter to your self is your own!!!!!!

Yes! One must keep all the knowledge to themselves. Even if somebody is highly curious to know about the wonders of somebody's religion or beliefs, they shan't be enlightened at all.

Unfortunately so many people that practice Islam, Christianity, and Catholocism will NOT respect other people's religious beliefs and choose to label and marginalize them as negatively as they can. So sad.

I disagree, the meaning of the word isn't complicated at all, why, because this is something I have found in common with multiple scientists, "If you cannot define a word/concept in simple terms then you don't really understand that word/concept"
and the definition of pagan is very simple, you just deliberately decide to make it more complicated than it actually is. You inmediatly will jump and say "but the word has different meanings in different times for different people, blah blah blah" the thing is this point only proves my and not yours, if you cannot synthesize a single definition from all of those definitions across different times and different people then you don't understand the word.
the word is so simple to define, "it means rural" and it was used as an insult by early christians in roman cities to against those in the country that haven't converted, because they practiced the old religions.
Period, this is all it means.
then you can add, "It is being repurposed by English speakers to refer to old practices without using it as an insult."

Simply it is an umbrella term for those who seek the Occult. The occult definition being; the hidden. We seek what is hidden within the world, ourselves, and through the Devine to achieve knowledge, compassion, and enlightenment. This may be done by intuition, observation, and/or the study of the natural world as well as by one or many religions. There is no one way to Pagan, and therefore no wrong way as well as it is a personal path.

I'm studying the Yoruba religion of Africa and the Americas. People call it 'pagan.' It does not fit your definition because it's absolutely not 'hidden.' People practice it openly in both the Americas and Africa. I don't like the word 'pagan' because it misrepresents religions and labels them as 'the occult' or 'magic' and 'mysticism' with heay negative connotations. I don't like the word at all. You said some positive things as well, but Christians, Muslims and Catholics are not very kind on this subject.

    • @MsPegasus1001

@@frijolero6048 I agree, Abrahamic religions have a beehive toxic mentality against anything that is not their belief and have drove the negative connotations that are widely known today. Occults are simply anything not a cult which is just a system of religious veneration and devotion directed toward one particular figure.
The hidden in Occult is understood as when Abrahamic religions came they sought out with the convert or kill mindset which drove other religions into hiding for fear of extermination.
Today we are no longer hidden and can squash those negative connotations.
