    Our lawn used to be gorgeous (when dad was here). I’ve taken over and am studying your process. The grass is clumpy, has soft spots, wild brown spots and areas where the grass is green. I am beyond frustrated. Your videos are immensely informative and encouraging. Whew! I feel so slow though (a new thought process and project). I truly hope to turn things around and enjoy it enough to make lawn care a hobby. That would be the ideal outcome. Thank you very much!

      Same here. Also had low K (there is none in Milo) along with low Mn and Mg which hopefully my micro nute sprays are going to fix. Also low in sulfur but the high K fert I found has 10% sulfur so we should be getting it all fixed here soon. Milo has a good amount of iron as well which showed up on the high side as well. You going to test next year? I went ahead and got 2 tests myself so I'm thinking next spring I'll test again before putting it back on a fert schedule.

    Hey Ron! Just bought our first single family home and loving the content! We live in middle TN and the lawn on the new home is pretty bad. Lots of dead spots, lots of weeds, lots of bugs. Been watching your stuff and wanting to put down a pest product, malorganite, and also a weed product. Two questions...can I do all three applications same day or do I need to put different products down at different times? Also..safe to do these during summer?

    • @RonHenry
      @RonHenry  4 года назад +1

      Hi Ricky. The short answer is "it depends". If you're using Milorganite for your fertilizer and Caravan G as an insecticide / pesticide amzn.to/3i4m3Tk then "Yes" you an apply both of those on the same day. Granted it would be 2 passes because they have different application rates. For general weed control, the product I like is called Spectracide. amzn.to/2BEPP0k It's a granular product that you apply in the morning when there's dew on the lawn. I would recommend doing the Milorganite and Caravan G first. I'd apply the Spectracide last or perhaps even the following morning. Doing them all 3 on the same day is going to mean going over the lawn 3 times in the same day. The order in which I'd apply them is Milorganite, Caravan G, Spectracide. Don't water the lawn until the next day. Be sure to also change your clothing after application since you're dealing with herbcide, fungicide and insecticide Hope this helps. 😎👍

      Hi Garrett, There's a kit that includes 2 tests (before and after) and a probe here: www.mysoiltesting.com/shop?aff=11 If you want just the probe, that's an option as well. Let me know if I can help with anything else. 👍😎

    I dont know if anyone asked this, but would the previous fertilizers affect the results?

    • @RonHenry
      @RonHenry  4 года назад +1

      Kajuan. It's possible but Milorganite releases so slowly that any changes it made to the soil in that week time frame would be very slight if any. I've gotten the results and will be posting them next week. Stay tuned! 😎

      @@RonHenry awesome. Thank you for the quick response. I was just curious because I recently put some Scott's Weed and feed down, and I was wondering if I should hold off on doing a soil test for a while

      Shouldn't skew the results too much Kajuan. I'd do the test sooner than later.

    Nobody recommended Clemson for soil test?

    • @RonHenry
      @RonHenry  4 года назад +2

      Clemson can work Loyd. I just like MySoil because it’s super convenient, inexpensive and you get results that are easy to understand quickly. More important than the test you’re using is to pick a testing model and use the same one consistently so that you can measure the changes in your soil over time. Hope this helps. 👍😎

      Going forward don't use fertilizer with phosphorus in it. This is a good choice: golfcourselawn.store/products/country-club-16-0-8-humic-max-and-mesa%C2%AE-by-lebanonturf-sgn-150

    Sending them in is the best way. Next time try your local AG extension

      Hi Nicholas. These samples are sent in for testing by MySoil. What advantages do you think having a local agriculture extension do the testing vs. a mail-in service?

    • @Cenlalowell
      @Cenlalowell 4 года назад +1

      @@RonHenry their local will know more about your turf and conditions. You can call them and ask questions anytime after your first soil test. Next thing I would say after the soil test they will recommend what you can put down and the best place to find it. Feed store, co-op, and farm store or the best places to find fertilizers. This is why you see some in the community go to big box stores because they don't know any better it's our job to teach.. I'm at the lawn forum

      I hear you Nicholas. I can totally see using local lawn care business to find good fertilization products. I guess I'm not understanding how having a test done locally is going to yield a vastly better/different result than using a reputable online service? The big advantage to MySoil is the convenience and speed associated with it. In my case from the time I mailed the sample out till I had results was less than 1 week.

      I ordered my soil test through the UGA extension office. The kit was $30 and they mailed it to my house with instructions. I mailed off the soil and received the results by email within about a week. Pretty easy process.

    His lawn already looks night and day. The only recommendation I have, is that next time, get the soil test done before you add fert and micro. Depending on how soon after you sample, the results will be skewed.

      Great point Russell. We got the results back. Will share in next week's video. We put Milo out so it takes a while to break down and really start working. Even with the Milo, I think you'll be surprised by next week's results. 😎👍

    It’s pretty inaccurate to say his lawn was “ugly.” Just a few weeds and brown spots. A better experiment would have been in a pretty tore up neighborhood (unlike yours) to see some TRUE results. I’m sure his will be better but you know what I mean. Now my dilemma will be purchasing a new lawn mower like you are recommending. I just purchased one that m sure won’t fit the bill in your book (Toro recycler). I’m assuming following the soil test, herbicide and fertilizer (along with other things I will perhaps learn from your channel) along with using my substandard mower will be better then nothing at all? Thanks for this info on soil testing. I’m a master gardener and we talk all about doing soil testing but this is cool you don’t have to take it to a facility. I’m loving your channel?

    • @RonHenry
      @RonHenry  4 года назад +1

      Hey RB. The Recycler isn't "substandard". It's certainly not the best type of mower for Bermuda grass but that would be true for any brand of rotary mower. It really depends on the look you're after and what your goals are. Even with a rotary, you can get a great looking lawn. It really comes down to regular mowing. The more frequently you mow your grass, the better it will look. Of course this assumes you keep the blade sharp and are doing your best to cut at the correct heights.
