We have made flour with yellow dock. When researching dock flour, the consensus was to winnow the seeds before grinding because they have a hull that can be bitter. We chose not to winnow our seeds because it is a HUGE pain as the seeds are so small. So we put the seed, husk and all, into our blender and Voilà! Yellow Dock Flour. We have used it in bread, muffins, pancakes. It tastes wonderful, is not bitter and is a lovely dark color. It is moist and dry at the same time....meaning, you don't use as much liquid in your recipe and the texture of your product is flakier or crumbly. We have found that it is best when used as an additive in your recipe instead of as a substitute. We used only dock flour in our brown sugar muffin recipe and the result was they fell apart in our hands when we took them out of the muffin cups. They tasted delicious though, so it was worth dealing with the crumbles.

I have no clue if I have yellow dock or other dock I cannot get rid of, so I do what I always do when "fighting weeds" - look up what is edible. I harvested a bunch of seeds in the fall, and Judy, you are so right, winnowing is a major pain and I too just throw the seeds in the blender. I mix them into my bread dough at times. If I want to add them every time I need to collect a lot more this fall, but they are there :)
I dig up my burdockroots too!

Yellow dock has truly been a life saver for me! I used to suffer with horrendous constipation. When I would have severe episodes the pain got so terrible that I honestly thought I might die(the episodes would last anywhere from 6-8 hours!). I tried so many things with little to no success. About a year ago I stumbled across yellow dock and gave it a try. I am SO grateful to have found this amazing herb! Combined with magnesium, it's changed my life! I take it daily and it always delivers! ;)

I've used yellow dock for mosquito and ant bites effectively. For the mosquito bite I simply rub the leaf of the plant on the mosquito bite until the liquid from the plant is released. For ant bites I will rub the plant vigorously to get the liquid from the leaf and then I tape the plant piece to the ant bites as a poultice and leave it (about 20-30 minutes) or till itching stops. Sometimes a second poultice is needed about 12 hrs later to fully heal the ant bite.

Yellow dock vs Burdock, Doc? Backstory: about 40 yo m pt is anemic (but recovering slowly) and post chemo by two months. Cancer appears to be gone according to scans. Liver still angry. Pt still requires occasional naps and is trying to regain the 25 pounds he didn’t have to lose in the first place. Also, hair regrowth is painstakingly slow. He’s sick and tired of being and looking sick and tired. Typically very active. Chemo dramatically affected neurotransmitters and gut (and, thus, brain) flora. Brilliant, dyslexic mind has been (hopefully temporarily) muted by the chemo effects. Seems to be slowly coming back to me. Also I’m saving your super nifty duct tape trick as I have one child who gives me mini heart attacks daily (NO FEAR). Thank you for all your info!

Wondering if you can help me out. I took some ground yellow dock root just in a glass of water. About 4 g. It gave me nasuea and made me vomit. I don't have any known allergies. I figured maybe I would try a smaller dose so I tried 1/4 teaspoon. It still made me naseous. Possibley may still vomit. Curious as to why this would happen?
    Taken without food also.

      COuple of things:
      - First, make sure it's really yellow dock.
      - Second, herbs on an empty stomach often make folks a little nauseous.
      - Third, you may just have a personal sensitivity to it.

Can yellow dock be used longterm/ indefinitely as an herbal medicinal, or should it only be used for short periods? And/or does this depend on what part of the plant is used and in what form?

It's a safe herb but I wouldn't use it long term. Burdock 0would be a better choice for that.

I've had a heart attack 3 months ago. I have high cholesterol levels so I've been told.
They put 3 stents inside of me.
I started making a shake out of the leaves with blueberries kefir or natural no sugar yogurt and 4oz of water. I have to say, it's lowered my blood pressure and you t gives me energy for the day. Although I eat breakfast shortly after.
I drink it almost every day. Do you think I should stop because of the oxalic acid it has?
