Short video of HMS EXPRESS arriving at St Katharine Docks marina in London on 5th September 2024. HMS EXPRESS was at the marina to take part in the Classic Ships event which will is being held this weekend.
Back in 1958 I was lucky enough to be part of a canoeing group through the Dutch canals. We were shepherded by a squadron of SBS, and transported from HMS Ganges to Holland by the Royal Navy. I was on a minelayer and others on a couple of frigates, our escort was HMS Brave Swordsman. During the voyage, Brave Swordsman showed off by circling the group at top speed. I’m in my eighties now but vividly remember most of the details of what was a trip of a lifetime.
While taking my shippers course on the Solent we moored in Cowes marina and a pair of Chaser came in one fully crewed by a female crew. But they would not join us at the bar. Also a pair escorted the Dunkirk Little Ships across to Dunkirk in 2000. Always good to see the Royal Navy flying our flags. If the ADLS are there at SKD make yourself know to White Marlin or any other boat for that matter and you should get some good close up footage.
Apparently we have sixteen of these boats. Can anyone tell me why ? For what purpose ? They’re not stopping the invasion across the channel that happens every day, so I see them as private yachts.

@@asakurayoh3909 The advantage of them being smaller is that they can operate in inland waterways that larger navy vessels would not be able to access. According to the Royal Navy website, their range is 550 nautical miles.

Wow, the Mighty Royal Navy! (Let’s hope we don’t have to go to war anytime soon.)
All who sail these vessels agree, too low a freeboard, they are no fun in rough waters ~
Thanks for the information.

No - it is a patrol boat. It's main roles include maritime security, training and supporting NATO operations and exercises.
