so you can see it in the middle of the battle with all the smoke from the cannons and at battles such as at the Nile there was still almost friendly fire so apparently they are still not big enough haha

The original Spanish flag was Saint Andrew's cross, like the Scottish flag, but with white background and red cross. It was changed to the present day flag because it was easy to mistake it for the English flag, St. George's cross. So in order to prevent friendly fire, King Carlos III ordered to make a new flag, in yellow and red, which are the colours of Spain to this day.
The galleon is an excellent replica, although, obviously, it carries the current Spanish flag, the Spanish flag of its time was the so-called Aspa de San Andres, which is currently the Spanish military insignia.

Thanks for watching the video. There is no problem with the flag itself as all ships have a flag at the back and that is normal. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ENG As the day progressed, the british ship Pince attempted once again to tow the Santísima Trinidad; but with as little luck as the night before. Throughout the day on the 22nd, the sea roiled with frenzy, tossing the hull of the ship as if it were a fragile fishing boat; and that wooden mountain tested the strength of its solid frames, barely holding together against the tremendous pounding of the waves. There were moments when, as the sea flattened, it seemed the ship would sink forever; but as the wave surged like the impulse of a deep whirlpool, it lifted its proud bow, adorned with the lion of Castile, and then we breathed with the hope of salvation. -Benito Pérez Galdós , Trafalgar, Episodios nacionales.
Thanks for watching the video. The ship is actually in St Katharine Docks marina (which is very close to Tower Bridge) until 7th October (you can see it entering the marina in the latest video). During this time it is open to members of the public to visit. It is common for visiting vessels to pass under Tower Bridge twice in such a short period of time. The next bridge sailing up the river is London Bridge which does not open so tall vessels such as this one are not able to sail any further up the river (thus why it turns around to sail back downriver again). Whenever Tower Bridge lifts, this will obviously cause congestion on the road which crosses over it. By having a 30 minute gap between the vessel heading upriver and then back downriver, the bridge can be shut and the traffic congestion can be relieved before opening the bridge a second time.
Thanks for watching. Yes - if you look at the latest video when it enters the lock of the marina, you can see one of the replica cannons on the side of the ship.

I just read that Waverley has had technical problems and is currently at Portsmouth being repaired. All sailings for Friday, Saturday and Sunday have been cancelled and they first planned sailing on the Thames is currently Monday (though this could obviously change if the repairs take longer than planned!)
@@ThamesShips I kept looking at marinetraffic yesterday to see if she had left Portsmouth.I thought the weather may have had something to do with it.Thanks for the info.
After it passes under Tower Bridge the first time, the next bridge up the river (which isn't far) is London Bridge. London Bridge is not able to lift and so any vessel requiring Tower Bridge to lift will not be able to pass under London Bridge. It will therefore have to turn around to pass under Tower Bridge again to return down river. Whenever Tower Bridge lifts, it will obviously cause congestion on the road as the traffic cannot pass over the bridge whilst it is lifted. Therefore, it is common for visiting vessels to pass through the bridge in the upriver direction and then back downriver about 30 minutes later. This 30 minutes allows the crew of the vessel to turn around and take any pictures / videos they require and also allows any road congestion to clear from the bridge. Of course, if they want to wait for longer than 30 minutes then that is also OK but they have to take into consideration the tide levels at the bridge. GALEON ANDALUCIA also had to enter St Katharine Docks marina (see the latest video) and it is only possible to enter the lock into the marina for a certain amount of time either side of high tide so this was also a consideration.
I went to visit her on Friday. I could not see how they steer her. Hydraulic rams I think. But from where? She's very maneuverable. They are sailing again on 7th aren't they? Would it be feasible for me to follow them in my inflatable canoe?
Thanks for watching. Yes - I visited her when she came to Southend Pier. Unfortunately I don't know about the internal workings. Yes - you are correct to say that it departs again on 7th.
I think that it only uses full sail at sea since many authorities require the vessel to use its engine when mooring or operating in confined spaces. Most people film ships near land so operating under full sail is rarely filmed. I think there is some footage here ruclips.net/video/O-RiN5uKk7U/видео.html
What class is a galleon ? Is it a merchant type ship or a man of war frigate size ship ? I always thought a Spanish galleon was a large ship off the line type like HMS Victory, is it because these were older 16th century ships
In St Katharine Docks marina which is very near to Tower Bridge. At present, she is due to depart on 7th October. You can see her enter SKD marina in the latest video on the channel.
I am no nautical expert but given that it was making a small bow wave and all its sails were furled it was not sailing at all but using an auxiliary engine. So the title should be motoring under Tower Bridge. I am prepared to be corrected.
Thanks for watching. At the moment the paddle steamer Waverley is offering trips on the Thames. If you have a look at the Waverley Excursions website, you will see that they often use the word "sailing" even though it is a paddle steamer and does not even have sails!
Thanks for watching. Yes - it uses it sails a lot when it is at sea. There is a Port of London Authority regulation that says it is not able to use it's sails this far up the river so it has to use it's engine.
When the Galeon Andalusia passed the T. Bridge and sailed next to the HMS Belfast, it seemed like the galleon's decks were even taller than those of the battleship. I had difficulty grasping its full scale in real life._ could you give me a better comparison to understand its real-life size? Thanks for the video!
After it passes under Tower Bridge the first time, the next bridge up the river (which isn't far) is London Bridge. London Bridge is not able to lift and so any vessel requiring Tower Bridge to lift will not be able to pass under London Bridge. Thanks for watching the video. 👍Construction on Tower Bridge started on 21st June 1886 so that would have been well after the original galleon would have been sailing.

Thanks for watching. I know what you mean but I believe that, technically speaking, it is only payable if the vessel moors at Tower Wharf. I am not sure if such a large vessel would be able to moor there or not. I know they had this ceremony earlier in the year when they had Royal Navy landing craft moor there. Obviously the landing craft have a smaller draught so they can moor there.

VIVA ESPAÑA, ALLÁ DONDE ONDÉE LA BANDERA ROJIGUALDA!!!
That crew took mañana to a whole new level.
I am impressed with the size of this ship. I can see why natives would be intimidated by seeing this.
Do they still do the tall boats festival I remover going to that as a kid?
There are various events held on the Thames during the year but I don't think that the Tall Boats festival is one of them.
Beautiful ship, but why such a very short visit?
It looked like it had 8 cannon holes on the side of the ship.
Thanks for watching. Yes - if you look at the latest video when it enters the lock of the marina, you can see one of the replica cannons on the side of the ship.
Latinoamérica no existe, no hablan latín.
Great vid.She looks impressive coming through the bridge, although that flag at the back is rather on the large side.Waverley is at Ipswich on Friday but it's supposed to be raining so won't get to film her.
Thanks. Yes - the flag reminds me of the Mexican navy training ship that arrived some time last year. I am looking forward to seeing the Waverley again!
Gracias por la información. 👍
Saw this moored up just outside Queen Anne's Battery in Plymouth this time last year when out sailing on my bosses J24.
Yes - it is quite a sight. It seems to be very popular wherever it sails to. On the Thames, it also visited Southend and Gravesend.
Is this a long standing tradition to pass tower bridge twice?
Im on that thames rocket boat on the front left, what a veiw it was
Thanks for the information. Yes - it must have been a magnificent sight to be so close. 👍👍
That's the only time a Spanish galleon has actually been welcome sailing up the Thames! What would Elizabeth I have said?
Thanks for watching the video. It was a wonderful sight and many people watched it sail through Tower Bridge and then into the nearby marina.
@@ThamesShips Really enjoyed it. Like an 18th-century picture map come to life. Pity about the London skyline!
Yes - you are correct to say that it departs again on 7th.
why cant i find videos of GALEON ANDALUCIA under full sail?
I think that it only uses full sail at sea since many authorities require the vessel to use its engine when mooring or operating in confined spaces. Most people film ships near land so operating under full sail is rarely filmed.
I think there is some footage here ruclips.net/video/O-RiN5uKk7U/видео.html
🇪🇦❤️👏👏👏👏👏
👍👍
What class is a galleon ? Is it a merchant type ship or a man of war frigate size ship ? I always thought a Spanish galleon was a large ship off the line type like HMS Victory, is it because these were older 16th century ships
Thanks for watching the video. More information can be found here sailingshipsmaine.org/el-galeon
Where is she docked in LDN right now?
In St Katharine Docks marina which is very near to Tower Bridge. At present, she is due to depart on 7th October.
You can see her enter SKD marina in the latest video on the channel.
@@ThamesShips Cheers, just went this afternoon lol

Looks smaller than I imagined a galleon to be. Ilustrations in our history books at school made them look huge.
Yes - I remember the pictures in the school books as well.
Thats the small size..... others are more bigger.....
People were smaller back then too.
@@LMPV4 Yes - that is true. 👍
😍😍😍
Thanks for watching. 👍
Nice ship, looks like it needs some time in a dry dock
I took my 7 year old son on this a few months back when it was in Poole.
Thanks for watching. Yes - I went on board last month when it visited Southend Pier. It was a great experience.
Looks like the Flying Dutchman
Are her sails ever used. I assume she has a deisel engine
Thanks for watching. Yes - it uses it sails a lot when it is at sea.
There is a Port of London Authority regulation that says it is not able to use it's sails this far up the river so it has to use it's engine.
Wow the Armada finally made it.
Thanks for watching the video. Galeon Andalusia is 55m in length.
Why did she have to leave then return within the space of an hour?
For entertainment/educational purposes only!

Has she ever sailed through before ( not the replica ) ? If so any hostoric dates ?
Thanks for watching the video. 👍Construction on Tower Bridge started on 21st June 1886 so that would have been well after the original galleon would have been sailing.
Does anyone know what time the ship leaves London on 6 October?
The Port of London Authority (PLA) website currently says 4pm on 14th October. If you check the PLA website, it has an expected ship movement page. If you look up the Departures, you can see the scheduled departure time in case it changes.
@ThamesShips thanks for that .I read it was leaving today 7 oct .We have been on it at Gravesend ,but I want to be down by the waterfront when it sails past.they must have extended it ,because when we went on it it defo said sailing from London 7 oct.
@@John-ob7dh Yes - I agree it was originally 7th. I was hoping to go and see it myself! I can only think that they have had a large number of visitors so they have extended it for a week.
I will post the link to the PLA website so you can see the scheduled departure time and date. You will have to select the "Departure" tab and then scroll down to 14th October.
The link is pla.co.uk/ship-movements
@ThamesShips many thanks.I am sure uou are right and they extended it because of the interest.
@@John-ob7dh St Katharine Docks marina have put a message on X confirming that it will be staying another week until 14th October.
Is Andalucia fitted with an engine? She's not sailing and it doesn't look like she's being towed.
According to google, "Galeón Andalucía has two Guascor Power F180T2-SP engines that each produce 279 kW at 1,800 rpm."

I don't know but I was a little disappointed, not with the ship(boat?) but I think there should have been music/band appropriate to the time when it passed under.
Thanks for watching the video. 👍
The Galleon was certainly interesting to watch, I agree the flag was a bit OTT😊
It reminds me of the Mexican navy training ship that visited the Thames last year. I think their flag was about the same size!

On this special occasion they should have done the Constable Dues ceremony.
@@ThamesShips Agreed on Tower Wharf but the Tower Pier is technically Tower Wharf as well. Nevertheless, very nice footage.
