Friday Night Funkin' is a Newgrounds rhythm game made in HaxeFlixel originally created for Ludum Dare 47. Programmed by ninjamuffin99 with a soundtrack produced by Kawai Sprite and artwork created by PhantomArcade and evilsk8r, the game can be played on Newgrounds or played/downloaded for free on Itch.io.
Friday Night Funkin' is an ongoing project that will continue to receive updates, bug fixes and new content. A full version of the game is currently in development, having been successfully funded via a Kickstarter campaign. Check the changelog here for information on the latest updates. The game is also open source to allow users to mod or simply look through its assets. Download the game files here.

That makes a ton of sense! It seems to automatically get fixed later on in the song, which is strange, but oh well, I still think it's mid.

i totally agree with what you're saying about the vocals in eggnog erect sounding off time, but it kinda grew on me personally once I played it a few times!! it's definitely unconventional but imo it feels like it brings some of the christmasy bittersweetness into the soundtrack that the og christmas week was missing but it keeps the repetetiveness of the charting, and when the vocals did line up at moments it felt like the song was clicking in my head which was v satisfying. i think it's kinda cool that they included a song that's based a lot on vibes alone, but you're right in the sense that it being weird to play kinda takes away from it yk. with it being a game and all. the cutscene at the end made me giggle though which raised my ranking. I CANT BELIEVE YOU PUT PICO DEATH SO LOW THOUGH ITS A BANGER

Hello! I downloaded FNF around week 5 and i was... Terrible. I eventually gave up and later left the fandom (im not a fan of most mods.) I rejoined with the release of weekend 1 and im a bigger fan than ever! Only problem is my chronic skill issue. I practiced and practiced for days until i got really good!.... Or so I thought. I later compared to my friend and turns out im garbage i guess. Any spammy or fast songs i struggle with. Im currently at the point of struggling with the level 7 and 8 erect songs and I basically cant do any mod ever. I asked my friend for tips and watched videos but nothing has really helped. Ive been playing for ages but i just cant improve. I was hoping you would have any tips or guidance on how to go from "can play vanilla game on hard mode" to "be able to play erect mode and decently play mods". Sorry for the huge rant, i just want to be actually good aty favourite game. Loved this vid though!

Gay Instrumental is called that because Gay was another song with lyrics made by KawaiSprite. I'm certain that's also where the ending song of WeekEnd 1 also comes from, a song named 2 Nintendo Switches.

The thing is, the vocals _CAN_ be off-time when playing ANY song. This can be remedied by pausing and unpausing, or just flat out restarting the song
24:14 How is that a bad thing when the point of Erect remixes are to make the original songs harder? It being more like a B-Sides remix effectively achieves that.

F TIER (THE WORST)
63. Lit Up
This sounds like Eminem's _Tone Deaf._ Like an intro to a song that never starts, because it builds up to nothing. It sounds weak. It sounds like a RUclipsr's outro song. Also, Imma let it be known: I HATE Darnell's voice, and in this song, Pico's vocals are pretty bad. Their harmonization (which is like ⅔ of the song) is AWFUL. I've listened to several remixes and I just cannot vibe with this song. This is the only song out of the entire game I actually _hate._ It deserves its own tier below the other songs in this one, but I'm only sticking to 5 before the Top 10.
62. Bopeebo
About as bad as Lit Up. It's literally a glorified _Hot Cross Buns._ It has nothing going for it. However, unlike Lit Up, I can't complain about poor song progression because... the song doesn't progress. It's just a beat loop. You could definitely scramble all the verses in the song and it would still sound fine. Also, I don't like the instrumental besides the synth pattern that comes in and out.
61. Darnell
This one and Bopeebo are kinda tied, but this one has more going for it, so I placed it over Bopeebo. Compared to Lit Up, really the only redeeming factor is that Pico's voice is way better here, and the popoff sections are cool. I don't really care for the instrumental, and there's Darnell's voice..
D TIER (BAD)
60. Dad Battle
This is the only one in this tier. The vocals carry a catchy melody, but das it. The thing I hate the most about the instrumental is that it has that wailing synth for ⅔ of the song.
C TIER (MEDIOCRE)

I included "Explosive!", and put it a tier over the full song because I like the guitar loop more on its own.

Ion vibe with these two as much as other people do. Not bad, of course, just not that good. That's why they're _mediocre._

Honestly, this one is way overrated.
52. Pico
51. Cocoa
All-round mediocre. It's literally Bopeebo, except it closes with a popoff section.
50. Monster
This is the mid-most song in terms of quality. Not much of a bop, but it has its cool parts (tho those are mainly the work of the instrumental). The beat changes are also neat.
49. Breakfast
Also overrated, but this one is at least catchy.
48. Blammed
I used to love this song the most out of the Week 3 selection, but now I feel like the vocals are kinda lacking in comparison to the intensity of the instrumental. I feel like the instrumental here (which on its own is really good btw) would be a better fit to the Erect mix while the one from that one would be a better fit to the regular mix. So really the only part that stands out here is the beat drop.
47. Eggnog Erect
I dunno man. It has _parts_ that are a vibe or sound heavenly, but all-round, I like the original mix a little more. Also yeah, it definitely does not feel harder than the original mix.
46. Breakfast (Week 6)
Catchier than the original. Sounds like a Sonic theme.
45. Fresh
This one is also overrated. It's also just a beat loop, but it changes stuff up a little. The song repeats by the halfway point, but adds a little more beats every turn. The beatboxing is also neat, and, altogether, it does sound better than Cocoa and Bopeebo.
B TIER (GOOD)
44. Artistic Expression
This one was gonna go under "mediocre", about the same place as Pico's pause menu, but I vibe with this more than I think I should be. It's a beat loop, but it's a nice one.
43. Fight!
Really cool buildup, but too short to be beyond the bottom of this tier.
42. Explosive!
Again, I just really love the guitar riff.
41. Klaskii Romper
Would've been mediocre if it didn't have notably good parts to carry it.
40. Fresh (Chill Mix)

37. High
Good, but overrated.
36. South
Overrated. Overshadows the actual best song of Week 2. Cuz unlike Spookeez, which had the Halloween feel, had a fun and exciting vibe, and incorporated Scary Swings into its instrumental, this one is just a generic rap song. Now, I can get behind Skid and Pump spitting bars (I mean, Funkadelix did it right), but this song has more trap than phonk, and it doesn't feel "Halloween-y". But yeah, Spookeez is just better.
35. Girlfriend's Song
34. Fresh Erect
This one did good. Far from the best song, but it really did good as an Erect remix. It sounds like an evolved version of Fresh, and feels like a harder version of Fresh. It's all-round catchier, has a better vibe, and BF's vocals are heavenly. It's so funny that this is 34th place too.
33. Bopeebo Erect
Miles better than the original. BF's vocal chops complement the linear beat loop by making the percussion pop out more, giving the song the bounce it was meant to have. BF's solos are awesome, as well as the popoff section at the end. The song has progressed from being baby-time music, and now it's a genuine bop.
32. Satin Panties
I just vibe with this song more than High.
31. Spookeez
I also don't like BF's vocals in South lmao. Again, this song is just _better._
30. Philly Nice Erect
BF's vocals are angelic, but the song has a more laid back vibe than the original, which I don't prefer.
29. Fresh (Boyfriend Mix)
28. South Erect
Sounds a little more playful, and the phonk is more prominent. It's still a rap song, but this remix just did it better. I also like the part where the instrumental quiets down and BF does his solo.
27. High Erect
Again, an evolved version of the original.
26. Results (Perfect)
The energy of the song fits the "perfect" status. It feels like a celebratory grand finale.
25. Game Over (Chiptune)
Way better than the original game over theme.
24. Give a Lil Bit Back
Just plain awesome. It wouldn't mind if they went with something like this for the main menu theme.
23. Roses
I think this one's a little overrated. It's obviously far from mid or anything, but I think it's the worst of the Week 6 songs.
22. Thorns Erect
I like the original mix a little more. While I love heavy percussion, I like the "haunted" vibe that came with the synth pattern in the original. The percussion kinda drowns it out and turns it into a more intensive "running/fighting for your life" vibe. Like yeah, that _is_ what's technically happening. But 1: it's just a _rap_ battle, and 2: the song isn't difficult enough to warrant this sense of intensity. I also like how some turns sound in the original a little more. Tho the harmonizations are nice.
21. Senpai
I just like the energy of this song more, and the percussion is nice and punchy.
20. Ugh
Really good, the percussion and bass are nice, and the rhythms are catchy.
19. 2Hot
The chorus is swesome when Pico sings it, the instrumental is great, the buildup and beatdrop are fire. Darnell's voice unfortunately drags this a little down-- just enough to put it one tier below.
A TIER (THE BEST)
18. Philly Nice
When I first heard this song, I didn't like it. I thought it was the worst song out of the Week 3 selection, mainly because of Pico's vocals. But now I see that it's just a great song all-round. The whole song is a catchy melody, the instrumental carries the vocals nicely, and the vocals themselves _are_ good, but especially BF's. This is not only the best original Week 3 song by a long shot, but top 20 in the entire game as of now.
17. Satin Panties Erect
This one changes the vibe of the original and makes it into a _bop._ The disco-type instrumental carries, especially in the popoff sections. Now, a main complaint is that the vocals are too repetitive, and that is exactly why this song is not any higher than this. I'm also gonna take this chance to say that this is why Kawai Sprite is not cooking with the vocals for the Erect mixes. Most of them just have BF carry this one rhythm for half of the song, with no variety. Also he now seems to prefer the boring BF vocals. The Week 4 soundfont is literally a chromatic scale; why not just stick to the voice the song already had? I think Kawai Sprite should just stick with making the original mixes while the rest create the Erect remixes.
16. Blazin'
I was gonna point out how Darnell's best song is the one where the characters don't even sing, but then again, this song is better than literally every full week with the exception of Week 7.

I understand that the perfect results screen has a more celebratory theme, but Ion get why the Good & Great results screens have a better theme than the excellent screen.

S TIER (TOP 10)
10. Thorns
9. Winter Horrorland
I just have a bias towards this song. I love it so much. I don't think I can pinpoint exactly what I love so much about it, but it's just good all-round. I really love the vibe, I really love how the instrumental carries the vocals, I really love the vocals themselves, and I really love the harmonizations. I've always loved this song and will continue to do so.

Unlike most people, I do love how BF's voice changes from the ones respective to the songs to his standard ones. Kinda like he goes from rapping to singing. Anyways, I don't need'a add more. These songs are awesome.
SS TIER (TOP 5)
5. Game Over (Pico)
The best game over theme. We have a multitude of voices singing followed by a keys solo. It's beautiful.
4. Guns
The guitar intro is great, Captain's vocals are great, the instrumental is great, the ascension part is great, the song is great. Indisputably the best song of Week 7.
SSS TIER (TOP 3)
3. Roses Erect
The energy and tone of this song is perfect. It sounds like Senpai is actually pissed off now. The heavy bass makes the song more intensive, and Senpai is keeping up with BF quite well, showing that he has the skill to back up his arrogance.
2. Spookeez Erect
First and foremost, I will put out there that I understand that this isn't everyone's type of song. I also agree with the complaint that this doesn't sound like Spookeez at all. But I am getting fed up with the amount of lash this gets. People without musical experience trying to call out something _Kawai Sprite and Saruky, both professionals_ worked on for being "off-tune." Just another buzzword people throw around when it comes to something _they_ think sounds weird. It's not off-key. It's dissonant, and the chord progressions are just weird. But that's the point. Making this song more harmonic or melodic would destroy the goofy Halloween vibe that complements the literal kids singing it. It just uses unorthodox scales. Specifically, the Phrygian scale, which gives it the Egyptian feel. Yunno something associated with Halloween? Mummies. This is a near-perfect Halloween song for FNF, and I love it. It's exciting and it's unique. Others might not like it, but for the love of God, don't pretend like you know what you're talking about if you're just gonna shit on something. I'd also say BF's popoff sections are unmatched, but then the next one is...
_THE_ BEST
1. Pico Erect
Perfection. The instrumental carries the vocals perfectly and solidifies it as a rap song. The little extra beats added in Pico's turns improve them so much. BF's vocals are godly, and his popoff section is just THE BEST I've heard from FNF. It's funny how Philly Nice was the best original Week 3 song and turned out to have the worst Erect remix of Week 3, but this one was the worst original Week 3 song, but is the best Erect remix, song in Week 3, playable song, and song in the game.

53. What a... "how south completely overshadow spookez"? For me is literally the opposite, spookez is harder but also very fun to play, i remenber playing week 2 for the first time and i forgot south existed in the next 5 minutes

45. Egnogg erect was weird for me too at first (just like high erect) but i got used to the vocals pretty fast and ended up putting this song on my top 4 favorite erect remixes. And no, original egnogg is MUCH easier, more boring too...

7. In my perspective, i got very sad with this song, i though it would be harder and more faster, but they decided only yo speed up pico in the drop! The BF section of the drop is soo easy, why cant i play pico drop string? Also, i enjoyed the instrumental but it feels the difficulty in general wasnt enough to support. Almost like it is cooking a banger in the background, but the gameplay itself is slow...

@@kazibro2Eggnog is barely good, but Cocoa is all-round mediocre. The only saving grace is the popoff section that closes the song. Cocoa also does not have the Christmas vibe the following two do.
Also, no one talks about Cocoa, so while it's memorable for you, Eggnog is unanimously the most memorable.
Winter Horrorland is far beyond both tho.

@@kazibro2Honestly I liked Cocoa way more than Eggnog, but after listening to it recently to rank these songs on my own, I saw that it didn't have much going for it. Hopefully the Erect remix does it justice, cuz I think it has it in there to be amazing. I mean, look at how Bopeebo evolved from baby-time music to a genuine bop.
About Blazin, I think the end was supposed to be pico punching the hell out of Darnell repeatedly which is why it was like that. I don’t know for sure though

lit up's instrumental could use some work, it could use more percussion but should it REALLY be surpassed by a song that literally has sections that are out of tune and all over the place??
and there is also a section of lit up which references guns. (which i definitely agree deserves that number 2 spot)

Monster is suposted to be creppy, shoking and unnerving. Not chatcy. At least that's what I think it wanted to be. In my opinion monster songs have potential but they are a little tooo boring. Maybe it's supposted to be boring but Idk.
