Thank you for putting this together. Very little info out there on these new SmallHD monitors. I recently got the Indie5 and have been enjoying it so far.
Thanks for making these videos man, always super helpful. One minor note about the SmallHD 1/4 20 mounting holes, from my experience owning multiple SmallHD monitors, the locking pins they have around d them aren’t Arri standard, they’re proprietary SmallHD size and spacing. SmallHD sells their own monitor mounts and I believe Tilta have SmallHD specific attachments for their magic arm. Hope this helps anyone looking into buying a SmallHD monitor, as forcing Arri standard pins can cause damage.
Hi Justin, big fan here. Thanks for all the useful info. One question: I still have the old Focus Pro OLED for the Komodo. I see you have the same Focus Pro OLED at the beginning of the video... but with a SmallRig cage on it. Could you tell me which specific cage is it? Is it the one for the original Focus OLED? Did you have to modify it to make it fit? Thanks a lot!!
You are the only shooter who just gets into it, actually human practical operational functionality. There's a special now on the Indie 5 but I'm thinking focus, so either the Cine or Ultra, brighter to see. The USB gizmo is a solid attach, but not with the bulky barrel connector, needs to go straight to Komodo, OR USB micro to USB-C with the USB-C Link Adaptor (extra cost). Now re-evaluating. I'm starting to think iPhone 15 Pro Max. Link adaptor to iPhone USB C, no lag, self powered monitor, no SDI problem, bright, free or purchase fancier app for control. What do you think, please? (I asked RED if the Ethernet on the Ultra could transmit video, they said not. Too bad.)
You know, if you wanted a little cheaper but still dedicated, just pick up an ipod touch. 🤷🏼♂️ Been thinking about that for the FX30 now that it has a monitor with false color but only through the app. That way you dont tie up your phone either. The biggest issue with the RED control app is you usually have to turn off the cell signal to get a better connection
Hey Justin, does the monitor always show that 'glitch' when turning on? Just got mine and noticed that everytime. Hope it doesn't mean anything wrong with it. Cheers from Spain!
With this one it actually went away with the latest FW update. Or what Glitch do you mean? Jumping screens once Red control is activated? If you mean that, yea it still does that
@@JustinPhillip I meant the quick glitch when starting up you see at 4:09 I just updated the firmware and it sill does the same. But maybe that's normal. Also, does yours get super hot? Mine does, not unbearable, but actually not that far from it! Cheers
@@JustinPhillip thanks for the reply bro! I’ve been watching your channel for a year since you got the OG Komodo and respect the content. I was happy to see you live on Cam M. live and recently balkum live. Do you have plans on converting to KX?
wait.. I thought you pulled sdi out of the komodo while it was powered on.. last in, first out? sorry, I know you know your stuff so I feel like I've been messing up.
Yes, that's correct. Plug in sdi to Komodo " last" after both Komodo and monitor are on, and sdi plugged into monitor. When disconnecting, unplug sdi from komodo "first" then power camera down. I've been doing this process since I got mine a year ago and haven't had a problem. P. S. - Hello fellow Tulsan!
@@KolotovGleb likely because it doesn’t have anything to do with power. the key is all accessories must be powered on when connecting or disconnecting sdi. the monitor was already powered and turned on

Interesting! I never realized that 🤙🏼

Hi! What battery is that on the back of the monitor? Does it have an LCD screen on it or was it a sticker?
Yeah, it has a voltage display meter. amzn.to/42jeVIV

Can you touch to select the autofocus point?
idk, i dont have an AF lens to test that on. I know you can do that with the PortKeys monitor
i cant figure out how to do so
Thoughts on the cine 5 as it has joystick on the side?
oh yea, if you have the budget that's the one i prefer. Touchscreen is cool, (this one is very responsive btw), but i miss the tangible joystick

Why did you connect the yellow cable after connecting the SDI?
