Thanks for this list. I appreciate that you discussed the perspective issue. It's an important responsibility to consider what world views we are teaching in homeschool.
Yes! I think that there’s definitely a segment of the homeschooling community that’s choosing to homeschool to shield their kids from learning (what I consider to be) the realities of the world. Even if we don’t think we fall into this category, I think it’s important to be aware of our own biases me try to include a variety of viewpoints.
Thank you for your point about teachers! That’s why I really like sending my kids out for extracurriculars, like dance. I like being the main teacher in their lives, but I think it’s so beneficial for them to have the influence of other teachers.
We school all day, 8:30-3pm, mostly because my daughter(gr 5) has added physics, chemistry, genetics, philosophy, computer science theory & coding, finance and astronomy on top of her usual curriculum (English, math, social studies - which we skim honestly because neither of us enjoys it - general science, handwriting, typing and she takes art, dance and music outside "school hours" ) ... Without the extra subjects she's added on, we would be done by lunch if not before every day! We pack a lot of stuff in but she loves to learn so why not!
This is a very informative video, I'm kind of surprised it has so few views. Thank you for sharing! I'm considering homeschooling my second grade daughter because of some of the reasons mentioned in this video. Among those, however, what weights on me the most is definitely the lack educational resources that can be dedicated to her, one of 32 students in her so-call gifted and talented class. Due to the pandemic lockdown, she has improved so much more in all subjects because I got the chance to teach her myself. Her reading level has jumped from E to U in the course of one year. She is doing double digit divisions in her head and she can build a robot with cardboards and empty milk bottles. Now she's back to school, her teacher wanted her to take out a level L book from the library and she's back to doing double digit additions in math classes. Even in music class she's struggling, to find something interesting, as she has already learned all that the teacher was teaching!
"social toxicity" is the most BRILLIANT phrase I've ever heard!!! I've never heard it called it that before!
Haha thank you! Not sure I coined that, but it def describes a variety of issues!

Absolutely! It’s great for kids to have a variety of adult role models.
Really thorough pro/con list. Well done!
Thank you!

Oh wow love that she’s so motivated to learn! Yes definitely run with it.

I honestly don't think I would have the patience of a public school teacher. Lol!! I can't imagine teaching 30 kids.
Haha yeah its gotta be so hard. Just the logistics alone!

Yes! So many parents are frustrated with virtual school and are looking at homeschool as an alternative
I desire homeschooling my daughter. She's just 9 months but I'm a single mom that has wfh job. Any ideas on how I can accomplish this?
Being a parent is a thankless job... Might as well add teaching too haha
