Could not believe it either. Checked the list and it seems you indeed did not listen to them. Arjen and Tuomas are two of the best composers ever in prog/metal, in general when you listen to one the other will be mentioned sooner or later.
Ayreon is a masterpiece in whatever form is takes.

Arjen has mastered the art of writing concept albums, with a few exceptions only the storyline streches across all his albums. It is a fantastic rabbit hole to dive into. Basically he writes all the music himself and then invites guest singers for the different characters. Usually you have about 8 to 15 singers per album.
Live shows are rare, but when they happen they are always in Tilburg. If you have a chance I highly recommend to go and see Ayreon live. I was there in September for the first time, and it won't be the last time, for sure.

I know I am not the one you asked this to but I will be at Magoria with my father and I hope there are still tickets for Plan Nine because I need to hear that live. I have seen Ayreon live with the 01011001 Live Beneath The Waves concert again with my father, I have also been to Damian Wilson's One Knight Only show and I have been to Progproms. All with my father of course he is the one that got me into progressive music and I am glad he did!

I couldn't justify Progproms last year, because the five days in Tilburg took most of my travel budget. Maybe this year. Then there are the Jan Willem solo shows, I want to see Robby Valentine live one day.

@ Oooh I feel that! But if you have seen a small person with blue hair and glasses at the front with an older guy sitting next or near them well you might have spotted me. Also at the Damian Wilson concert I was on stage at the end soooo. I will see Edward Reekers with his Liberty Project album in May so more good prog music for me. I also cannot wait to see Damian again he has quickly become my favourite singer not only for his voice but also for his incredible personality.

I agree on Damian. I saw the One Knight Only show at the boerderij and I managed to get my Knight duck signed by all band members. Damian is just too good a person to be real.
Arjen is such a modest chill dude. He said in an interview he has stage fright. So him doing this project is smart AF! Write music and lyrics, working together with other artists, and then send those artists on stage while you chill in the greenroom. lol

Now I know that all those muscians are freakin' legendary and awesome, but hear me out, two of my most favorite singers are there, Russell Allen and Floor Jansen! Especially Russell, so underrated. Arjen is in all aspects great! Yes he is humble and very pleasant. But he is also the worlds most epic prog rock composer of modern times. And he is a top politician as well. He gets all these top singers together. And they love it!!! If you ever get the chance to witness this live, do not hesitate. Go there. It is a life changing experience. Arjen rules. Next to Tuomas from Nightwish that is. And on this epic podium you can put Steven Wilson from Porcupine Tree as well. The three of them rule the musical world.

I have seen many reactions to this song. I have to say i loved your enthusiastic and genuine reaction!!!
Of course they are kind. All those connected in a way to the Ayreon clan are friendly and highly talented. This piano player Joost, for example, is musical director of the live concerts that are given now and then, he is the one who can organize those complex rhythms in the songs of Ayreon and Epica and many more. Floor has done a cover of Heart's Alone, and Joost, her former band mate, played to her. I do not know why Arjen calls him a dick. But it may be because he can fully run astray ahead of the others playing on his (12 or 16) keyboards. He reminds me somewhat of Keith Emerson.
Arjen is kind, and he loves to give those very talented musicians their way. He also loves to call upon veterans from his early years. He once had Marko Hietala singing in a concert, wearing a kilt.
It is best to consider each album as an opera. Music is writted to the story and the musicians appear for their due part. The opera that has all the live songs on YT is called Into the Electric Castje live and other Tales. Start with Isis and Osiris and the rest will follow.
If you like a good sci fi story, with amazing singers, and musicians aboard, you should react to the entire album, songs in order from start to finish!!

You have so much great music in the Netherlands. I come over from Germany every few months to see concerts and meet the Dutch part of my Ayreon family. You might want to look into Magoria. They do metal operas and have the premiere show for their new album on 30. March in Dordrecht. Or the new project from Arjen, Plan Nine who will play live on 7. June in Zoetermeer.
And of course keep your eyes open for the next Ayreon live show in Tilburg next year, probably mid september.
I totally agree on these artists being super kind and nice people. I met Floor's sister Irene and a few others by now and they were all super nice.
Oh, and Joost was on the keys for After Forever if I'm not completely mistaken.

Tobias Sammet and Hansi Kürsch are two of the best german singers ever. Tobias Sammets Avantasia is simular to this. The Song The Raven Child is one of the best Songs I ever heard. And in this song you can hear Hansi Kürsch too. Hansi is the singer of Blind Guardian, a very awesome Band.

The cool thing about Ayreon is that all the albums sort of tie into the same story. 'The Source' (the album which this song is from) is technically the start of the story. It's about a race of humans that give control of their planet to a computer (the 'frame) to help solve an environmental catastrophe, but the computer determines that the best course of action is to eliminate the humans. Ten humans and the robot TH-1 escape the planet on the only interstellar ship they have (the 'Starblade') along with the ships crew and head to an ocean planet. The chemist creates a drug ('The Source', aka 'Liquid Eternity') that allows them to evolve into an 'aquatic race'. The drug also makes them basically immortal and allows them to communicate telepathically. The album ends with the survivors (ten plus the ships small crew) living on their new planet ('Planet Y') in relative peace, but in the final track we learn that TH-1 is becoming a new version of the 'frame deep in the ocean. The next album in the timeline, 01011001 ('Y') tells us how machines have now taken over this new planet, and the humans have basically merged with the machines are losing their emotions and sense of time. They now call themselves 'The Forever', since they are essentially ageless drones at this point. We also learn about how they seeded a comet with DNA and sent it to Earth, where it creates human life on our planet. The Forever believe they can live through us telepathically and that they may regain their emotions by doing so. Some of The Forever believe that we need to advance more quickly, and use their telepathy to give us medicine/technology, but this results in us advancing quicker than our morality can cope with. Eventually The Forever realize humanity is doomed and has to decide if they will give them the technology to reverse their past mistakes. Somewhere in the timeline sits the album 'The Electric Castle'From a summary by Arjen: "At the end of the journey those that successfully dealt with their personal demons find out that the voice belongs to an alien named 'Forever of the Stars', a member of an alien race living in a distant galaxy. These aliens created planet Earth and its people as an experiment so they could study, and hopefully one day experience emotions, as they themselves lost feelings eons ago." That's only three albums (less than half!) but I believe those three give you a solid foundation for how the story plays out. Also, I highly recommend any of the Electric Castle Live videos; They are just so fun to watch, plus John de Lancie ('Q' from Star Trek) plays the 'Forever of the Stars' character, which Arjen said he originally based on Q.
