[Tidbits & Clarifications][Episode 17] - Komamura and the Beast Clan are based on the Buddhist concept of "The Beast Realm" beings that are personified by their subservience to their instinctual and selfish desires. The appearance of the Beast Clan here in Bleach is due to a curse which is a punishment for the sins they've committed in life. - As noted, Quincy are depicted as angelic, they dress in all white and have wings when they use Volstanding, where as Shinigami are death gods who dress in all black, this speaks to the very gray nature of Bleach as a story and actually is a nice hint to larger lore implications. - Bambietta doesn't actually use or have bombs, rather her reishi is explosive that's why her schrift is called "the explode". She shoots her reishi into objects and turns the very object into an explosive, this is why her attacks are unblockable, whatever you block with will just become the "bomb" - People don't give Kubo enough credit for how enticing he makes world-building. He intentionally sets up concepts while only giving us a smidgen of information, here we learn of the beast clan but we also learn of a Animal Realm which poses so many new questions, similar to the mystery of why Yoruchi Shihouin can turn into a cat. - Komamura giving his heart is also a nod to his line when he was speaking to Tosen before he died. He said: "If I lost you, I would have a hole in my heart" - Ichigo has always been a protector, but it was in a common selfish sense, the want to protect your loved ones. But now he's tasked with a different path of protection, the weight of protecting the world, or rather the worlds, this is why the weight is so heavy...he quite literally has the weight of worlds on his shoulders. [Sidenote: The Humanification technique has always been interesting to me, metaphorically it seems that to be Human means having desire yet the aspect that makes you a beast is giving into those desires despite knowing what harm may come from it.] [Repost]
[Tidbits & Clarifications][Episode 16] - The idea that Quincy's grudge against hollows is one based on fear of death is an important bit to remember, especially since most or much of these ideas come from Yhwach. - This episode does great at showing just how dangerous Soi Fons Bankai is, many fans think her Bankai is weak for some odd reason. Many argue that it's too simple, which is the point Soi Fon is pretty blunt and straightforward and emotionally explosive as we've further witnessed throughout this arc. - Shinji's Bankai occurs relatively quickly here, so for any who don't quite understand, put simply: it inverts the perception of Allies and Enemies. Therein all of those caught within his Bankai view their friends and partners as enemies, thus they begin killing each other. Basically Teaming up against Shinji is a bad idea. In the light Novels, we learn that his Bankai was forbidden, obviously because it can affect Shinji's allies as well. - Shinji is Ill matched against Bambietta, if this was anyone else they'd already be dead but as we saw she has the ability to just blow up everything around her, so I suppose the becomes a battle of who gets who 1st.
Shinji's bankai isn't in the manga. It was only revealed in he light novels also Ichigo's training that's totally new for us manga readers but some of that stuff is on the light novels,
Even though I'd read the manga, I still teared up while Ibe carried Komomura towards his goal. The emotion in this brief story showed incredible writing from Kubo. I also can't help but think about how Bleach is based off Buddhist mythology and that the animal realm exists within the Buddhist cycle of reincarnation. Just a terribly interesting and endlessly digestible bit of writing from Kubo. "You will become a beast of revenge. Let your anger reach its very limit. Curse your lot. Wallow in your vengeance." Kudos Kubo!!!!
You missed episode 3’s post credit scene
Tousen was a man who became a beast
Komamura was a beast who became a man
They both fell to revenge
Shinji's bankai was only shown in the Bleach light novels so seeing him in animation was really surprising
