It's so great how people can have different views on things. I'm so glad you love the PMC's! Great review btw. I had the 6-2's but now have the ATC SCM25 mk2's. I simply like these more. I don't think either is "better" than the other. Just different flavors for different ears. Everything translates effortlessly now. So to anyone reading this.. test out monitors first! I wasted quite a bit of money on various setups before landing on what I have now. (PMC 6-2's were absolutely my second favorite tho!)
Same boat here. Had the 6-2's but for me, the SCM25 Mk2 was just much easier for translation. Just switching from the 6-2's to the ATC's cost me a bit on money due to shipping alone lol
@@shineliketko definitely test out all monitors before buying! The cost of demoing stuff is cheaper than buying the wrong gear! I definitely appreciated all the ATCs I got to work on over the years, they can definitely work - the 6-2s compare more to the 45s and 50s ATC wise but the bass response and extension, mid transparency and depth and honest/smooth top end really sold me on the PMC! There was a lot that went into getting my PMC’s to sound their best - took at least 2 months of burn in and trial & error but now I know what they can do! I wouldn’t give up on PMC in the future and I’m happy to help with any questions about them if you decide to try them again in the future! That said, enjoy your dope ATC 25s and best of luck on the music journey 🙏
@@glennfaustino7502 Yup! Same experience. When you're at this level of monitors I think eating a few hundred bucks is okay to get the exact pair you want so I feel you! hahaha
@@RAYNETHESAVIOUR Of course man! That's the thing.. everyone has different ears. I know some people love Amphion. I do not like them at all hahaha. But when I get to the BIG guns (so ATC SCM150s vs the PMC XBD setups).. that's when I'll of course really test out the two brands because both are my favorite in the 10k+ range. Good luck on your journey as well bro!
Great monitors. Using the Grace m905 with these. I tried the AES thing and analog. I hear what you’re saying, for me the AES did sound a tad more sterile VS the analog which sounded a bit warmer and transparent. Very very very close. I did a smaart reading to verify what I was hearing. The difference is closer than you think. Within the context of music, you definitely need legendary status ears to hear the difference!! Good video brother!!
I definitely to achieve legendary status ears, I’m definitely a little more sensitive than most to this stuff but attention to detail is everything to me! Thank you for chiming in on this and congrats on the Grace Designs, fantastic piece of gear!
I’m doing 8-2s AES with my Hilo 2. Crystal clear sound than going through the analog conversion. (Will check my firmware thanks for the tip) My Pro DJ friend told me this years ago and I never believed him until I went to his studio and heard the direct A/B comparison using his Cranesong Avocet. That led me to this rabbit hole today 😅
@@Mike-vr7mb what a great setup Mike! I’m jealous that you got the 8-2s brother, happy you’re enjoying them 🙏 and boy oh boy would I like to get my hands on an Avocet. The Grace designs has been the hype for its features but the Avocet is a whole other level!
I’m on the Pmc6’s for a while now and love them. I had a lynx aurora(n) for a while and used the monitors with that through analog. Which worked great to be honest. I was super curious about the difference in hooking them up through AES. I switched to a Prism Lyra recently which I do love to be honest. Comparing it to the Lynx I can definitely tell how it’s not as clinical. But that doesn’t bother me. Hooking them up through analog on the PMC’s was a totally different experience from the Lynx. I liked it a lot but the sound was quite colored. And when I hooked them up through AES they did get a lot cleaner sounding. Which is what I was used to with the Lynx. It might sound a bit better but I don’t hear much difference with the aes (prism) and the Lynx (analog out). I guess the Lynx is pretty ‘flat’. So yeah I don’t have any problems with my prism luckily. I’m going to check the firmware update on the PMC’s regardless. Thanks for the tip!
@@Mereomusic Congrats on getting the 6’s! Great monitor pair and I’m glad your Prism is working well too, I seemed to just have some bad luck with Prism this year as I discussed in my review of the prism Lyra. It’s not my first interface from Prism - but as for the different that AES brought to the table, there was an analog feeling that I really liked. The passthrough in the monitor along with the use of the DSP features felt a little bit digital somehow and feeling is everything for me. The transients were also a little sharper and cleaner, more precise. That said, I’m more than grateful to work on monitors like ours either way! Love Lynx tech in general and support their products fully. Getting the Hilo and the Aurora (hopefully) back in to review soon! Enjoy the PMC’s!
I'm using the Lynx Hilo AES to the monitors, I also have the dangerous DBOX+ to use them analog wise the difference isn't major like a make or break issue, but I did get a major wake up call while turning the monitors off while connected via AES, I have to turn off monitor that is being fed to from the other monitor that is fed from the monitor control, first, or else there is a major pop, not sure if others had this issue, thx, not sure why you didn't do the firmware updates on purchase, mind you the firmware hasn't been updated since 2022, maybe your monitors are older ?
@@djtuff514 they could very well be an older pair! Not sure how many units of these they are moving around in Canada but definitely be careful with the switches! I’ve had a couple jolting sounds happen and scare the soul out of my body - thankfully my ears seem to still work somewhat 😂. For the most part though I’ve had maybe one or two instances of it only. Two monitors should probably work just fine when you plug them up regardless of any updates access via wifi. Call me old fashioned but how could I have known 🤷🏽♂️. Just an analog speaker guy stepping into AES territory this year but very happy to be here so far. Congrats on the great setup!
With the PMC it is very important that they are positioned exactly the same from the back wall to the side wall and in an isosceles triangle. Even a deviation of 0.5mm between the two monitors will affect the sound image at the sweet spot! It won't forgive you! I recommend positioning them at least 0.2 millimeters accurately. Even if it's only 0.3 millimeters different, it doesn't sound like much, but you will hear and notice it with the PMC at the sweet spot. If you don't use a Trinnov, for example, it can compensate for it! 😉 And those who don't use an ISO acoustics puck should change it! These things are really good! 👌 What I would also recommend is to remove the HS 7 that you have on the table in front of the PMC tweeter, as it will affect the direct sound of the PMC's midrange. the stereo image and the sound will be even better!😉 where I can definitely improve something is with the converters! I'm currently using a motu ultralight MK5, it's definitely not the best but for the price and performance it's really remarkable how good it sounds! because it still has very good converters in it ESS Sabre32™ DAC technology with the ES9026PRO DAC to deliver a measured dynamic range of 125 dB and -114 dB (0.0002%) THD+N. that's a very good value!😉 and the thing only costs 600.-! 🤗
I’ll definitely try moving the speakers but thankfully I actually have a sit stand desk so when I use the PMC 6-2s I drop the desk height until they are completely out of the way! Thats also definitely a good DAC and congrats on the great setup you’ve got as well! Thanks for chiming in 🙏
