- A lot of you have commented on or asked about my mic, my camera, or how I record and edit the videos I make here on my channel. Well, here are the secrets for how I make videos with a great clean acoustic sound that look nice and don't involve a ton of editing or loads of gear!
Gear discussed (not an affiliate with any of these - this is just what I use!):

Something I should have noted: I am a PC user, and I didn't mention Apple's Final Cut Pro not because I specifically prefer or recommend Adobe over it but simply because it's been a few years since I have had access to it! If you have a Mac, by all means go for FC!
This is a fantastic video! I love the way your videos look and sound, so I really enjoyed getting to see the gear behind them.
Thank you so much for taking the time to go over all of this, and thank you for the links to everything!
You're most welcome!
Thanks. Having some upgrades in the camera area (as stills were part of my work), I need to figure the audio part. And more info video. Never had much need for selfies. Merry Christmas!
I want that camera!
Very useful, thanks.
Glad it could help!
Thanks Lindsay, always appreciate videos like this.
Have a very Merry Christmas ❤
Very helpful! No excuses for me not to get recording now. Thanks, and Merry Christmas 🎅
Very informative video, your setup is indeed simpler than I expected! I'm even lazier, I plug the output of my audio interface directly into my camera so I don't have to worry about syncing audio 😅 The ETL seems like such a fantastic mic, but I'll probably hold off on upgrading - I do plan on trying a fast prime lens while recording in 4k to try and improve video quality. Also, was that a Blind guitar in the video?? Yours or Jordan's? 😃
I would like to try out some hotshoe mics on the cam to see if the audio quality is at least decent enough to use on the fly/out and about!
GOOD eye! We'll say shared...more to come from that :)
Nice video, thank you.
Question? Why not use apple and get Final Cut Pro for $199 vs buying adobe for $60 a month which after 10 months is $600?
Because I don't have a Mac! Plus I do use other Adobe suite programs, though it's definitely a steep cost, hence wanting to put Rush to the test. I should have mentioned that, though - that is a big bonus of being an Apple user.
Where do you place the ear trumpet mic to capture the guitar and vocals in your videos?
It depends...some songs my voice is stronger than the guitar, some vice versa. I think you'll just have to experiment! I start somewhere in the middle height-wise, monitor it with headphones and adjust for the sweet spot. Either way, it's usually around 8-16 inches away from me, lined up with the fretboard extension/upper bout of the guitar.
