    Wow awesome video Jamie. Awesome looking and sounding product! Love the part too where you show MixBox improving the recordings 👍
    I am still using the very old first generation iRig Pro as my current interface for guitar. Still happy with that so I can only imagine how awesome this newer model iRig Pro Duo I/O is! My oldie is already 7 years old and is still serving me really well, which shows the incredible reliable build quality of the IK products. Will keep using it until it craps out on me and will most likely upgrade to an iRig Pro Duo I/O or the likes of it. I love how compact it is. I also have a Line 6 Sonic Port VX as audio-interface for my iPad but i prefer the iRig Pro’s quality and easy of use. Really happy and impressed with IK’s products and software so far. Thanks very much Ed! I was unsure about the MixBox element halfway through making the video. I wasn’t sure if that section really worked but eventually I decided ai was happy with it. I like it when my videos are about more than one subject and actually include something of the journey involved in making music. It’s not always easy to get right though. I thought it might be nice to show that with the quality of the interface and then the quality MixBox brings to the table, how easily a pro sound can be achieved.

    • @EdBMetal
      @EdBMetal 3 года назад +1

      @@JamieMallender glad you added that mixbox part to the video, it really added something and i enjoyed that a lot. Really amazing to see how mixbox can take the already great sounding original recordings to a higher real professional sounding level. It is a great app!
      Btw, how did you record your acoustic guitar with the iRig DUO i/o, did you mic it, or does it have piezos? It sounded so clean with no background noises, almost as if it uses piezos instead of a mic. Just curious although i don’t even play nor own an acoustic guitar. I use a Line6 Variax in case i decide i want to have acoustic guitar sounding parts. It uses piezos and allows for a great variety of different sounding guitars in one electric guitar. Check out Line 6 Variax if you are not familiar with it yet. Great inspiring and useful technology!

    • @JamieMallender
      @JamieMallender 3 года назад +1

      Every acoustic instrument was recorded with its own pickup rather than a mic. The quality of the piezos they put in Vintage guitars is very high. When I record acoustics with a mic I feel it gets a much fuller and richer sound still but I always record the pickup too and blend the 2 things. Because I wanted a layering of acoustic twangers on this track I figured I just didn’t need that fuller sound as I’d end up EQing most of it out. I have used Variax before, in fact a long time ago I worked in a music shop where we used to sell them. They were a lot of fun to demo.

    • @EdBMetal
      @EdBMetal 3 года назад +1

      @@JamieMallender yes the Variax has a lot of benefits for me and I love it. I can emulate sounding like so many different guitars and pickups without having to spend tons of money on getting those many guitars or needing a warehouse to store them all. It might not be 100% the acurate sound, but close enough for me. And i love how you can use custom tunings on the fly without having to psychically re-tune and intonate constantly. Also works really well when combined with my Line6 Helix which allows you to store your Variax guitarmodel and tuning settings inside of a Helix preset. So entire rigs, different guitars and tunings are accesible and switchable with the press of a single foot switch. Insane versatility and customization. What i also like about Variax is that the emulated single coils have no hum or noise whatsoever, same thing for the acoustic models that sound completely clean. And when the battery dies you still have a proper electric guitar that works the conventional way. Plus you can blend the sound of the pickups with the sound of the piezos. There is only 1 disadvantage to me as a metal player, which is the sound of palm muting. Because the piezos are behind your palm muting hand it sounds different and less ‘chuggy’ than when using regular pickups that are in front of the muting palm. But it is a small thing that most people won’t notice.
      Man, i can almost take the job in your old musicstore or for Line6 to sell their shit 😉

      Ah well, I only did a year but there were certain riffs that I did hear far too many times for my liking! When I was at school I always wanted to work at Carlsboro which became Academy Of Sound, then Sound Control and finally Reverb. I finally got offered a job there 12 years ago. The Mrs was very ill for an extended period of time so I took a year out of any serious touring and worked at the shop so I could be home every night. It was a cool experience but ultimately I found that working in a music shop was not something you could do and be gigging seriously. The hours just didn’t work. I would’ve had to leave but the shop actually got sold from under us by a rather cutthroat new owner. So that solved the issue for me in a way. Also, the pay was poor.

    Hello Jamie great video lots of good information.
    I just bought mine and was wondering…
    Question for you when using the AC adapter 9v 500ma
    Do you get blue lights indicating power is on? Or do you have to use the provided cables for either pc and/or iOS?
    Also out in the field does the blue light turn on when using batteries. How does one know when power is on when using either
    Power supply or battery? Thanks man for your good information.

    • @JamieMallender
      @JamieMallender 3 года назад

      This is a good question and highlights the only weak spot of the interface. There is no indicator to tell you where the power is being taken from and I think it would be handy if it did tell you that. I didn’t notice this so much at first but over time, that’s my only slight gripe. You get a low blue light to say that the interface is connected which then lights up bright blue when you connect to the iPad. That’s how it behaves regardless of which power source is being used. When I use a powered hub, the duo has to go into the hub so I leave the power disconnected from the hub. That way the power comes from the mains adapter and then you plug in the power to the usb but it is just powering controllers. I found for my hub, which is a bit of a cheap one, running a few controllers and the duo was too much for it.

      Some audio interfaces work with midi keyboards, others do not. The iRig Pro Duo I/o does, did you see the part of the video where I show the midi connections? The best thing is to have an interface that does both - an audio interface records sound - but midi keyboards don’t produce sound, they produce midi data. I’ve got one of these on its way to me. One question re power, though. I read in the iRig’s spec that it is USB bus power enabled. • @JamieMallender
      @JamieMallender 3 года назад

      That’s a good question. The Pro Duo can take its power from batteries, mains or usb connection. I find that with the mains adapter plugged in, the interface works solidly without any kind of power glitch ever but when taking power from the camera connector type adapter, from time to time there are little power glitches. This is not unique to using it with the pro duo. Also, I like to plug the pro duo into a powered hub which has all my controllers in it. This increases the occasional power glitches depending how many things are switched on but with the 9v power supply on that doesn’t happen. Having used this thing day in day out for some time now, the one thing I wish it had is an indicator light to display where it is taking it’s power from. It would be nice to be reminded that you’ve left the batteries in or that you’ve forgotten to switch the power on at the wall. But honestly, that’s all I’d change about it and it may be a big ask.

    Can I ask what mic you went for with this device?

  • @WhenItCliks

    I'm having a huge issue and can't find the answer. I just bought one of these and plugged in my Sure SM7B direct into the iRig and went to the iPhone 12 pro video to shoot it and it's only capturing one side. As in, I can only hear the audio in one headphone coming out of the iPhone direct to my air pods. I then thought the input may be damaged, switched to the second and of course now, the sounds is only coming out of the other ear. I've tried changing the sound setting on the ipHone camera to mono and stereo and neither work. Still goes to one side only. And I cannot find ANY information online about how to fix this. It can't be possible that I need to record with 2 mics to get the both sides of the audio! HELP

      No you don’t need 2 mics. There wouldn’t be an issue with the audio you are recording. This is a monitoring issue. First question, do you have direct monitoring on the iRig or off?

    Between Steinberg, Scarlett, and Irig. Which one would you choose

    • @JamieMallender
      @JamieMallender Год назад +1

      Well, it would definitely not be anything Scarlett because I had one that had an issue. I wrote to them, no reply. I wrote asking if they could help me out in lockdown - I had no work, was trying to launch my RUclips - couldn’t make much progress because the interface I had from them was faulty - thought maybe they could send me a new one in exchange for some publicity and a review - no reply. Steinbergs are excellent for a fixed home studio set up - iRig gear for something more mobile. Can’t really compare the two, they’re very different

      @@JamieMallender now I know not to get Scarlette. And heard a lot good things about Steinberg. But the i-rig seems the one to go for, and the description says it comes with SampleTank which is awesome

    So I can Mic up my amp with this correct?

    • @JamieMallender
      @JamieMallender 8 месяцев назад +1

      It’s an interface so yes, you could plug the mic into it that’s in front of your cab as a way of getting your guitar sound into an iOS device or laptop etc, for recording or to send out to a desk.

      Thanks very much for saying so. I’ve never tried to do a massive controversial viral video type thing to get lots of views, I always wanted to build it up in a solid way - learn to make solid videos and hopefully build up a following because I want to go all the way with this. I’m considering doing a lot more live-streaming too because it means more content much quicker.
