Hey Spencer I have been listening to other podcasts on what Josh Pate has to say. He stated that realignment bomb may go off in July. What your thoughts on what Josh Pate statement.
I'm not so sure the ACC survives... Let's go down the list. Clemson, FSU, NC, Virginia are all gone to the P2. VT, Louisville, Miami, NC State are all at the very least Big 12 targets (even possible P2 targets). There would be no anchor schools left! It's like a dying mall that loses all its anchors... it's over at that point.
UNC and UVA very likely aren't going to the P2. If they were, they would have voted against suing FSU and Clemson. FSU and Clemson are the only programs that add value, and Clemson is honestly cutting it close. The rest are not worth the pay cut.
@@encycl07pedia- a) UNC did vote against the ACC suing. b) FSU is (at best) the 3rd SEC expansion priority for the SEC, 4th for the B1G. ~50% chance of landing in the BIG12.
The ACC certainly won't fold entriely, as their numbers are better than the Big 12. Without some of the heavy hitters, it seems more likely that the remaining members would look to move against the Big 12 or grab more from the G5, something the Big 12 has already had to do en masse. In all sports, the ACC is second among conferences, so if a newer, smaller football brand can be just as relevant as whatever the Big 12 ends up being, the league will survive.
Honestly I think if BYU and Houston would have never been picked up by the Big 12, the Pac 12 would have had some type of recovery with Oregon State, Washington State, Stanford ,Cal, Houston, BYU,San Diego State, Boise State, Colorado State, UNLV, Rice,Fresno State, Air Force, Maybe Hawaii (Football only) and substitute with Gonzaga (basketball and Olympic sports with Saint Mary).
Everyone else does. Why shouldn’t we? But seriously, what just got proved last week is that there are networks who will pay a little something for basketball. The ACC has larger TV basketball followings than the Big East and b12 (you could have proved me wrong by Baylor building their new arena with 50% more capacity instead of downsizing), so there are going to be enough schools that know they won’t get paid for football… so the ACC will survive. The b12 will find themselves getting a pay cut down the line.
BIG can only add 2 more unless they go back to renegotiate with the TV networks. I think this is why Paul started poking at BIG fans. You can’t be academic snobby and passing on Stanford and UVA for FSU/Clemson. Time for that hypocritical narrative to end.
@@jansonroberts2616 there are clauses for adding up to 20 teams beyond that. It’s a full start over. They just finished the deal and probably don’t want to go there unless they have to. Both conferences are integrating new programs and personalities. Probably their focus this month.

In terms of TV viewership I think people have been underestimating the additions of Cal, Stanford, and as you say SMU. SMU has the most...hope is the best thing to say here, in terms of their future, but I think comparing the depth of the B1G compared to the SEC, when it comes to surviving and maybe thriving, on field results don't matter nears as much as eyeballs on TV. The B1G outside of their B1G 3 has been mediocre at best, with occasional flash plan stars (Iowa's defense last year). Again SMU has a real hope of progressing as a team, and they will only get more attention being on more nationally televised games. When they do hit ESPN/ABC and other national stations (ie not ESPNU as most of their AAC games currently were), they're consistently getting 1-2million tv viewers, it's not a lot, but it was the AAC. North Texas wants a football team of their own to root for. Stanford and Cal, meanwhile, aren't world beaters, but they also were bottom dwellers in the PAC 12 in terms of viewership.
