EXPANSION: B1G Best Option for Woefully Underpaid FSU?
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 27 июн 2024
- As we zero in on whether Florida State eventually joins an expanded Big Ten Conference in the constantly changing college football environment, we must ponder whether the Seminoles have a better option.
SHOW US THE MONEY!
One thing is certain, according to Trustee Chair Peter Collins, Florida State is woefully underpaid for its media rights revenue compared to its perceived value among other college football programs in and out of the ACC. All options are on the table for Florida State and its athletic future but we still think jumping to the Big Ten is their best and most likely option.
IN OTHER NEWS:
Elsewhere we were as surprised as anybody when Purdue center Zach Edey went 9th overall to the Memphis Grizzlies in the NBA draft. We were certain he would be a first rounder. But we didn’t think he'd be a top ten pick so congratulations to him!
Indiana big man Kel'el Ware went 15th to the Miami Heat and the talented Terrance Shannon Jr out of Illinois went 27th to the Minnesota Timberwolves. We think of the three Big Ten players drafted in the first round, Shannon is the most game-ready right now.
BACK TO FOOTBALL:
Michigan running backs coach Tony Alford explains why he left Ohio State. Nebraska football loses a quarterback to Purdue and investigators share their findings from looking into the 2023 Northwestern hazing scandal.
Finally, it is Friday so it is time for our future PigSkin Picks on Locked on Big 10 with Craig Shemon.

Bridge is burnt with acc and rightfully so , not a chance of us staying . Go noles!
Hence I currently have ~50/50 chance of landing in B1G or BIG12
@@tarheel7406your remedial
@@GodTreGuttaiAMgOd You will have to do better.
I anticipate FSU giving the ACC notice of departure for next season by the Aug 15th this year. The SEC has never wanted FSU for membership, they keep playing ‘carrot and stick’ games with FSU always getting hit with the stick. FSU faithful are more than aware of this so have no delusions about joining that conference. As you said “at the end of the day, FSU goes to the Big 10”. FSU prefers the academics and athletics of the Big 10, we are pursuing AAU membership and the reputation of that Conference.
Big brand, rich history, devoted fans who tune in and travel, great venue, top notch facilities. The SEC is dumb for not considering FSU.
When you vote to sue FSU don't be surprised when FSU is critical of you.
Other than ND, FSU is the most valuable program yet to be realigned. It reliably provides top 10 viewership numbers and is an iconic national brand that sells out stadiums everywhere. Other than ND (and perhaps Clemson) no other non-P2 brand can say that. All things considered, the B1G is more prestigious than the provincial SEC and is a better landing spot for the program given where the sport is going. No matter what ends up happening, it’s truly a great time to be a Nole!
Go Noles!
More valuable than Texas?
@@MichaelSmith-xb5cp Last time I checked Texas is slated to join the SEC so they’re not a non-P2 team. For obvious reasons, Noles aren’t more “valuable” than Texas but over the past half century have won three times as many natty’s and have been the more successful program overall. Oh, and Winston had less time remaining and more yards to go on the same field as Young…just saying.
Yet FSU is no higher than the 3rd or 4th expansion priority for the SEC and B1G (respectively).
@@tarheel7406u have no real accurate knowledge on the statement u made. Stop hating on and trolling the Florida State contingent. Put all that energy into worrying about your own team.
Among BiG, Big12 and SEC, athletics represents an almost negligible amount of each university's budget. It is typically around 2 to 4% of the overall budget, so while sports is the colleges recognitioin factor, it is negligible in terms of the colllege's income.
What if…..gasp!!! The BIG and the SEC are fully coordinating and cooperating on everything. They know who will pursue which school and will not compete at that level. And will jointly negotiate TV deals, rules and schedules going forward. It’s happening. FSU, Clemson, Stanford, Miami, Utah, even ND. It’s probably been agreed through this advisory committee. They aren’t in competition. They are in cooperation.
Big10 needs to get into Florida & Texas. In Texas A&M & Tech, and fsu & Miami
No tx tech... at all.
Tech had no brand value outside us north central tx and Lubbock us in thr middle of nowhere.
go get fsu gtech and a&m
@@shallojalloh HAHHAHAHHAHHAA GT. very funny... Wait you're serious? A&M arent leaving the SEC. It''ll be FSU and ND. If 22 It's those 2 plus Miami and UNC. if 24 it's those 4 plus UVA and Clemson
@glennwilliams2950 | reading is fundamental. I clearly stated if I were the B10. GTech is strategic my guy.
ATL is in the heart of SEC country. Being able to plant a B10 flag there is priceless. If the B10 was able to get A&M FSU n Gtech. They would have a school in 9 of the 11 most populated states.
Please explain to me how that is bad idea.
@@glennwilliams2950
a) The B1G takes UNC over FSU.
b) UNC isn't available to the B1G per more recent events. Apparently has rejected he B1G yet again.
They will get into Texas and Florida but will only take one school from each state. In this case it will probably be A&M and Miami. They are both AAU and make the most sense
Yes, all the serious talk about further Big Ten expansion names FSU, Miami, Clemson, Notre Dame, bringing the Big Ten to 22. I personally think 24 is the max, so you could have 2 more teams, maybe from out West - like Utah, or Stanford, or Kansas, to help the West Coast teams on travel a bit more. It’s possible they could take a team or two more from the east, but I don’t see UNC or Virginia as I think they would go to the SEC.
Spot on - the SEC will react and grab whatever they can as an afterthought. Triangle schools make sense since they’ll come cheap whereas FSU and ND command top dollar.
@@LoCoVANole LOL... UVA and UNC are high priorities of both the SEC and B1G, so both can demand full shares. FSU. MIAMI and CLEMSON likely only have 1 P2 , which means likely partial shares if that only option is the B1G.
@@tarheel7406 People are sick of your homie elitist views.
@@mark8337 Perhaps, I can assure you that I'm weary of having to constantly address delusion and arrogance. An example of which is your last comment.
@@tarheel7406 No, it’s you.
I think FSU and Clemson will announce by August 15th they are leaving to force ESPN's hand to announce before February 15th that they are taking the opt out provision in the media deal to end the agreement in 2027. This will greatly reduce the value of the GOR deal thru 2036 and FSU and Clemson can get out at a greatly reduced rate.
a) To where would either be going?
b) Why would ESPN not renew even if CLEMSON and FSU left?
@tarheel7406 one they formally announce they are leaving they can negotiate with other conferences who would no longer have to be concerned about being sued by the ACC. Big 10 would likely take them at a significantly reduced share until the lawsuit is settled on an exit fee and GOR payout. ESPN would not renew as the media right value absent FSU and Clemson will be significantly reduced. Courts are unlikely to rule the ACC keeps their media rights after they have paid the conference to leave.
@@garyscott4847
"one they formally announce they are leaving they can negotiate with other conferences who would no longer have to be concerned about being sued by the ACC. "
Why? Until GOR is legally resolved, who invites any ACC school without their rights to broadcast home games?
"Big 10 would likely take them at a significantly reduced share until the lawsuit is settled on an exit fee and GOR payout."
a) Doubtful. b) B1G is very unlikely to invite CLEMSON.
" ESPN would not renew as the media right value absent FSU and Clemson will be significantly reduced."
Nonsense. An ACC even without UNC, CLEMSON & FSU remains worth more than the current contract rate per team. The new BIG12 evidences that.
"Courts are unlikely to rule the ACC keeps their media rights after they have paid the conference to leave."
Why?
I generally agree with you. And I don’t think there is any way FSU can get out by Aug 17. Summer vacays coming up. Unless it is done already and just waiting to announce. But that would leak. I think FSU and ND are invisible for the Big 10 but it will take time. Time for the new playoff system to shake out. I cannot see Clemson but who knows. Eventually there will be two big conferences doing their own thing each with 20-24 schools. Playoff expanded beyond 12 teams. Make it 24 and just add another game. Or something like that.
We are Florida State. We are not taking a reduced share. Mark my words. Go Noles
The BIG12 will offer a full share. Perhaps even an unequal share.
Is the NCAA going to eliminate all academic requirements for it's semi-pro athletes? I mean student athletes. This game is slowly going to die when the students and alumni realize their school is at the mercy of networks and mega conferences. Playoffs will be fun till the NFL realizes they are competition and tries to merge both "products". Greed killed football.
Today is the deadline for any ACC teams to withdraw before the new schools get added and potentially cause the folding of the acc
That is incorrect. With the addition of SMu on July1st and the Cal and Stanford it increases the number of schools that have to vote in favor of disbanding the conference. August 15th is the last day that a school can announce they are leaving for the next year.
FSU is not “woefully underpaid”. The ACC woefully underpays all it’s teams. There is equal revenue sharing in the Big10 and SEC.
But the michigan osu psu is the reason they all make as much, those three bring way more viewers. I wonder if big10 will ever kick out northwestern or Indiana to increase revenue of remaining teams.
Big12 is better off than the Acc
The BIG12 is clearly the worst (by far) P4 in athletics, academics, value and prestige.
Not for long. Losing Texas and Oklahoma is worse than people admit.
It’s a latteral move
Acc is dead
If so, as is the new BIG12.
I dont think the Big Ten is Florida State's best option. It makes sense for football and basketball, but it would absolutely 💀 their baseball program, which is at the edge of being a baseball bluee blood with 25 CWS appearance (although somehow zero wins)
Yet likely FSU's best available option.
If it makes sense for football then that is all that matters.
@LockedOnBIG10 the SEC also makes sense for football, and basketball.
That FSU has publicly criticized the other members is one of the reasons it has fallen in attractiveness.
keep dreaming, tobacco road is about to get what it deserves
@@FSUGeoff Full share SEC invites?
One could argue that FSU did deserve the CFP snub.
B1G university presidents are NOT in favor of adding FSU . . . .
You're right people on here don't understand that the presidents aren't going to vote FSU in because they are not AAU. Working towards membership is not the same as already being a member. The Big 10 will get into Florida thru Miami they are AAU and fit very nicely.
@@ronwilde1595 Problem with Miami is that they have NO on-campus stadium which makes it VERY difficult for students to get involved...
Stop kidding ! FSU will never be in the B1 G because they do not qualify.
