    You got lucky with your lower stock bushing coming out with the vice grips. I've resorted to just straight up dremeling mine out because of how seized they were. Totally worth it though because I love my MWR bushings!

      Oh wow, I’m glad mine were not that bad, I just heard about a bunch of people struggling to get them off. But it’s definitely worth the struggle because the shifts feel so much better!

    Thanks for the vid. I just swapped the original "up-down" rubber/brass bushing for the MWR bushing on my 2006 Toyota Matrix XR.
    The rubber on the old bushing was a little dry rotted, but not terrible - it came out easily with the right leverage.
    However, the brass center of that old "up-down" bushing was *very* out of round, presumably due to the impacts of thousands of shifts. This alone resulted in *a lot* of slop.
    Shifts feel much better now with the single new bushing. Not sure if I'll replace the "left-right" bushing just yet, as it feels okay - not much slop.
    Vehicle has 174K miles on odometer, and has lived in Phoenix AZ and Las Vegas NV its whole life.

    This is video helped me so much with ALL of the replacement I wanted to do for awhile. I have replaced OEM for MWR short throw shifter, shifter base bushings, and the shift cable bushings. Luckily the shift cable bushings aren't rusted and stucky, easy to take it off. However, for the one specific shift cable, I had to go get Nut Splitting tool to actually break the nut, so much efficient with the removing the nut and quicker, took me like 10-15 seconds. its $13 from Oreilly. So, after all of these been replaced, shifting is soo much better, exactly what I wanted it to perform. its perfect. I own a 2005 Toyota Corolla S manual.
    it is much freaking easier to do the job than you think.

      I a glad the video helped! Replacing all those will definitely make a difference in the shift quality! But it is a pretty easy install!

      It’s a great way to make your shifter feel great!
      😂 I thought it was funny as well!

    That first bushing was an absolute mess to take off. Had to take apart the arm, bathe it in WD-40, and grind the sides to get a good grip with pliers to twist off the darn thing off. Rusted to heck!
    But the new bushings are in and it does feel pretty darn good on the shifts!

      Yeah I had some terrible issues with that as welll! It’s amazing how rust can bond them together!
      But if your bushings were very worn like mine. It makes a great difference!

    I put my monkey wrench short shifter on a couple days ago on my 96 Corolla I fucking love it and I literally just got my cable bushings today but it’s 25° outside so I’m gonna wait until it warms up but I can’t wait to put them inside

    Would this be the same or similar job on a 2010 Toyota Matrix with an auto transmission? Thanks!

    • @BrandonStellmach
      @BrandonStellmach  Год назад

      If you had a manual transmission this would be very identical. But the automatic transmissions do not have these!

    I cannot for the life of me find oem bushings so these will have to do. I would like a more solid feel. Only I have a couple bad synchros. This mod will only let me feel it's pain as it grinds into 3rd almost every time

    • @BrandonStellmach
      @BrandonStellmach  Год назад

      These will work great for replacements, they will make it feel more solid.
      But if your having some grinds, maybe try to just do do a drain and fill on the transmission. Because I used to have a syncro grind going from 2nd to 3rd, usually when cold.
      But after I put in nice fresh fluid, I have not had that problem anymore.

    • @Critter0817
      @Critter0817 Год назад

      @Brandon Stellmach I'm having a lot of grinds. Been having grinds since a month after discount transmissions installed it under warranty. 2nd to 3rd when cold, and 3rd to 4th when warm. Changed the fluid when I almost replaced my engine with a blown one from salvage. Worked better for a week, then went back to grinding. I've resorted to using 5th gear's synchro to shift 3rd to 4th. 3rd gets a little better when warm. Though some shifts will work flawlessly, and some it just won't even try to sync up. Using 4th gear's 1 health pt synchro helps a little bit but the trans is just a mess. I'll have to do that until I can find another gearbox and put that in myself

    • @BrandonStellmach
      @BrandonStellmach  Год назад

      @@Critter0817 seems like the trans is on its way out, but as long as it stays in gear, you should be good until you can get another transmission.
      Maybe would be a great time to try and upgrade to the 6 speed manual!

    • @Critter0817
      @Critter0817 Год назад

      @Brandon Stellmach YESS IT WOULD!! I'd like a mwr one but I just don't have the money. Was thinking of getting a used atlis one but I don't know if it'd fit just as easily as the mwr one claims... I also don't know much of anything about the mwr one other than its a 6 speed

    • @boeing737d

      I agree, I would suggest full-on rebuild tranny. I have same problem with 2nd-3rd gear, it was fine when its warmed up. I have it on my project list to do, what I have learned is that its better to have full tranny rebuildmeaning new gears, seals, bearings, so that all of those parts are not uneven. its cheaper than buying new tranny. @@BrandonStellmach

    What bushings do you recommend for a 1995 Toyota Corolla?

    • @BrandonStellmach
      @BrandonStellmach  Год назад

      I’m not familiar with that generation corolla. So I’m not sure if there is any after market ones.
      But I would imagine you could find some on eBay or from Toyota.

      Yes this is the exact same as a 2011 corolla a, as long as you have the manual transmission! 👍
