Nice work, I've got to fix a repair that I recently paid for that was done badly in this area. Unfortunately it's right up to the seam and into the curve and swage lines so should be fun lol.
There are 2 little weep holes under the rubber windshield gasket. The windshield rubber between the body and the rubber…..for a better term….leaks. It channels this water to those holes, and under your hood, in those corners. A tiny stream of winter brine would go down those sides. There is a weep hole at the bottom of the hinge area….but you still have water going down there causing rust. In my opinion it was a bad design. And caused a lot of rot in that area. I guess it was cheaper for vw to drill 6 holes, than for them to use some liquid butyl sealant. I use 3M 5804? Black butyl sealant between the gas’s and gasket, and between the body and gasket of the windshield, making sure to plug up those corner holes.
Before I cut the old metal out I take my new metal and form it over the old so my shape is correct than just flange edge or use butt clamps as needed...I don't buy the repo panels due to the thin material and quality of import parts... hammer and dolly fav for me
U got a great light.
Great videos
Nice job! the joys of rust repair.....I've had my fair share lol! keep it up!

You can do it!
Yes I did. I have a special one that has a magnet and a small copper pad.
Do you use a copper paddle to weld in your gaps ? It makes it so easy with less burn through.
That’s a wonderful idea….the weld wouldn’t stick. 😀😀

Yep, sometimes that is all you can do.
Where can I get that peace of sheet from to do the repairs?
Home Depot, Lowe’s or a local machine shop.
