    I had the pleasure of training with Professor Pedro Valente when he came to Houston in 2016. He’s an excellent instructor and a wonderful human being. Do yourself a favor and go study with them in Miami if you have a chance. You will learn what real Gracie Jiu-Jitsu is. It’s so much more than a sport. Your father would be proud of what you guys have accomplished. God bless you and may you continue to have success in all your positive endeavors.

    I've had to reverse engineer the total "jiu jitsu" art with Kyokushi,n thai and Western boxing to Judo and eventually BJJ... there are still those out there that are shocked Jiu Jitsu has strikes!

    I have a black belt in Jujutsu. I trained BJJ for two years and though they are masters on the ground, it wasn't for me. Starting a roll on the knees? It's ridiculous, fights start standing, with striking. Thank you for teaching real Jujutsu.

      LOl.."fights" happen in all kinds of places and positions. Sitting in cars or at tables...or even bathroom stalls...lol. Leaning against walls, in a ditch on the side of the road or a snow bank and everything in between. I have seen all of these and many more non standing fights break out.

    I think you could make an argument that BJJ without the ability to throw or defend against strikes is no longer a martial art in it's truest sense, but rather a sport. As we saw & still see in challenge matches, fights & MMA throwing or defending strikes is crucial to closing range & setting up throws, takedown, & submissions. Even once you are on the ground as the old adage goes punch a black belt & he becomes a brown belt etc etc. Even on the ground landing effective strikes is a great decoy to transition to more advantageous positions or set up subs, & equally so being able to defend, or take away the efficacy of your opponents strikes (posture) can set you up for attacking. If you are on the bottom getting smashed with Fists or elbows can really make it hard to keep calm & be thinking three moves ahead as to what you are going to do, plus getting your head bounced off the ground (not a mat) or concrete can end your day really quickly.

      This is what I have been saying for 20 years and people look at me like I've lost my mind. The older generation doesn't know Jiu-jitsu they know sport BJJ and sport BJJ is NOT a martial art. In REAL jiu-jitsu you learn to strike and defend strikes, you learn takedowns, distance management, situational awareness, etc. The IBJJF has done more to kill the martial art of Jiu-Jitsu than anything else at least in the past 15-20 years.

    What makes Valente Jiu Jitsu different to Gracie Jiu Jitsu

  • @theadaptiveone
    @theadaptiveone 9 месяцев назад

    I believe the saddest thing, is that jujitsu is a complete art. However in modern BJJ in order to obtain striking skills. Students go learn kick boxing or boxing. Which is not inherently wrong, its just sad to think that we are getting so far from history.

    Do you have an academy in Canada?

    • @JohnJohnson-pq4qz
      @JohnJohnson-pq4qz 6 месяцев назад

      I don't believe so, but the closest thing in Canada is the Sylvio Berhing BJJ association. They put a strong emphasis on the old school self-defence curriculum with strikes , throws and ground work quite similar to the Valente curriculum from what I have seen. They have several schools and a large following in the Toronto area and especially in Alberta.

    • @scarred10
      @scarred10 Год назад +1

      It is and always has been a grappling only art,the strikes taken from other arts for use in vale tudo were only for closing the gap on strikers,if you dont spar as a striker,you arnt training striking and that's what the valente teach ,no sparring.

    • @SanethRajindaMarthos
      @SanethRajindaMarthos Год назад

      @@scarred10 No, buddy. You are wrong. Ju-Jutsu is not a grappling-only art. Even in Kudokan Judo, there are lots of striking methods. So, even before Vale Tudo was born, striking has been included in the art of Ju-Jutsu.
