You should read the book! Disney Channel kinda went through a phase where they adapted books and just changed the plot just to subvert expectations, even though it actually destroys the story (see Avalon High), and that sort of applies to this movie as well. I mean, some things were changed or omitted because the book is YA, actually, and it goes a little deeper into things, but they also changed the whole love triangle situation completely, just because they knew it would have been predictable if Mo broke up with Scott for good and ended up with Charlie. And like, I'm pretty sure that's what happens in the book.

I used to love the movie but reading the book made me realize how neutered the original story was. It was way more rich and organic, and more understandable in why Lemonade Mouth was propelled into popularity so quickly. Their unorthodox instruments (which makes it more believable that they randomly came together than just happening to have all the pieces of a traditional band fall into place) and brand of music made them stand out from the rest. I get avoiding the more the more sexual parts but I would love to hear the music I read in the book. I headcanon the lemonade has some magical properties that gives them a physic link in the movie for some of those unbelievable parts.
i was just writing my commentary along watching the video, cuz i always end up having too many thoughts on lemonade mouth over here, and it literally turned into a "yeah well in the book" rant, i am an insane person and this movie has no right holding this much power over me still. anyway, commentary afoot: 1:09 i am one of the four people who read it, that and the sequel. the changes are mostly all to make the movie appropriate for disney channel, so while it doesn't alter too much, it's like the book answers questions the movie makes you ask. and the big change is obviously the mo and charlie ending, ie they are together in the book. 2:32 haley kiyoko can't help but make all her characters gay, it's simply in her blood, and we thank her for it. velma in scooby doo? gay. stevie in wizards of waverly place? super gay. it's like when eliott page used to play straight women and the gays were like okay no one believes you, nice try. 3:23 i know it's the bit but her dad is not a conservative muslim haha, they're hindu. it's still no better, especially since it was written by a white man, like okay sir, thank you for more of that. 4:48 it was during class, she skippe dit to read, but the point remains 8:02 this bugs me every rewatch, in the book she just wrote them notes and slipped them in their bags/lockers when they weren't looking, like she doesn't have their numbers!!! cue the alex meyers jingle *disney channel movies, they don't always make sense* 10:28 wow, he just like me fr 15:42 well, he did kill somone but the lemonade thing is better lmao 21:46 i knew the joke was building there and it was so satisfying lmao 23:41 i didn't know that was the reason! there is a whole ass second book! granted it would not work with the canon of the movie, and it was written after, so i guess, but feel that i, as an 11 year old at the time, could've cooked them up a sequel pretty easily 24:33 i have to agree on that, having 5 leads makes it almost impossible to develop all of them properly, especially in a 90 min movie. none of the relationships feel fleshed out, and some characters get way more screen-time than others. in the book you at least get their inner monologue so you know what's up with them, plus they have other friends outside the band, so you get to see different sides to them, and since you don't have to film anything, you can say things like wen and stella hung out all day, you can't really show that naturally in the movie. like i think they're friends, but i have 2 books of development in my brain that the movie doesn't. 25:58 like charlie getting literally no character. the fact that they changed his ending with mo kinda kills half his story already. and the other big interesting thing about him (because his personality is pretty chill, he is a go with the flow kind of person, he doesn't have much going on) is that his brother was a dead twin that he talked to in his head. so not really something you can translate to a kids movie easily. so he got nothing. and mo got everything. which to be fair hers and wen's arcs are the ones that feel the most like they have a natural story progression, so i understand, but it was messy indeed. 25:10 yeah i have always been confused by the redemption of scott, it's pretty rare for the asshole bf to get a second chance in anything ever. and especially since mo and him don't get back together in the book. like maybe they just liked the actor?? he gets more of a redemption in the sequel, he gets a gf that helps him see the error of his ways, and moe and charlie are chill with him, it's basically just wen who's mad at him for what he did to mo? very weird 26:51 it might've been a weird fit but i wish they kept the story from the book where stella got the results of an IQ test that made her think she was stupid and basically motivated her to make the band succeed to prove she was worth something. cuz they literally keep the line in the group vent where she says she thinks she's too stupid for her family, but they don't give the context that her family are all literal geniuses and she's average. oh and in the end turns out she just had a learning diability. great video as always, just slay after slay
not to say i know more about the characters than the writers but i feel like it would've made more scene if charlie got his injury bc of the pressure he felt from his parents to be like his brother, but this would also require them developing him as more than the crush he had on mo, so they clearly weren't going to let that happen.
The school district I was in had a deal with Pepsi so the only drinks we could legally sell both in vending machines and at concession stands were PepsiCola products... but only diet because Michelle said.
HiKei: *labels Olivia White as "White" for her "intro"* Also HiKei: why is Olivia obsessed with lemonade??? Me: 👀👀👀👀 I hadn't watched this DCOM (by the time it came out, I was graduating high school and already in my "I'm too good for DCOMs" phase, but was I really?), but honestly, looks like one I would have enjoyed. I'll have to check out the songs! Thanks for another fun review!

@@hikeilokei u are dumb, he literally says determinate twice while singing it in the scene ? like damn did u even watch it, Makes me rethink your commentary
I remember when this movie came out. I liked it and at first was surprised and disappointed it didn't get a sequel. Then I saw the Wikipedia explanation years ago and I get it. Yeah, as much as I would have liked seeing them all again like this, they really DID wrap up everything there was to here. Unless they wanted to expand it OUT of their HS like what happened with High School Musical 2. Mo as the main character at one point....this could have been the Spin of the 2010s (Another DCOM that came out a couple years ago but the Indian girl there IS the main character.) But yeah, for it to have worked, they'd have needed to do more with her character than they did. AND make her storylines cohesive and workable. Stella as the main character ALSO could have worked, but like with Mo, more needs to be done.
When I was little my friend was explaining the plot of the movie to me and my dumbass brain thought that the lemonade was magic and gave them the power to sing
Hey! I just watched a few of your videos and they’re REALLY. Entertaining. I usually stay in my circle of RUclipsrs that i watch but it was a pleasure finding someone new! I like the way you space out your videos, your jokes made me laugh a good handful of times and I like your voice😎 hope to see more from you soon!!!!
Actually, the more you get into this film the more you realize how derivative of ethnic stereotypes the conflicts are. All of the main actors of color are biracial, so you get the sense the writer's room didn't have much diversity. Also, Stella's actress does have a female partner, so you're not off there And I find it so ironic that she lost her voice after drinking so much lemonade. All that sugar is probably why three of the characters have issues regulating their emotions healthily
Naomi Scott having more plot than the other stars of the band? Disney KNEW that they would make her a big star once everyone else left the company. At least Bridgit Mendler became an official Doctor. Ms. Scott became a Sultan & a Power Ranger.
25:04 apparently in the book Charlie and Mo get together, but not in the movie because the guy playing Charlie is 15. Edit: which I find weird because if you've seen starstruck Sterling Knight is in his mid 20s and the girl is like 15 or 16. Same with Another Cinderella Story... Maybe the actress spoke against it and asked for the change because it would be weird... Which makes me question some things about Drew and Sterling.
Oh. Sounds like how Daniel and Jessie weren't put together in KK3 because of their age difference. (She was 16, he was 27) Mo's actress was 18 and Charlie's actor was 14 when they were filming, so understandable even though she was BARE MINIMUM legal back then.

haha yeah I heard about it. I just didn't want to make a habit of touching on EVERY crime committed by ex Disney kids. Because they get into a lot of controversy apparently
This is the exact opposite of how money flows in schools. The sports programs are the ones who MAKE money. Money is then taken from the sports teams to go toward arts and sciences. This is why sports often have such a high budget - Because they are where the money comes from in the first place.

25:10 yeah i have always been confused by the redemption of scott, it's pretty rare for the asshole bf to get a second chance in anything ever. and especially since mo and him don't get back together in the book. like maybe they just liked the actor?? he gets more of a redemption in the sequel, he gets a gf that helps him see the error of his ways, and moe and charlie are chill with him, it's basically just wen who's mad at him for what he did to mo? very weird
26:51 it might've been a weird fit but i wish they kept the story from the book where stella got the results of an IQ test that made her think she was stupid and basically motivated her to make the band succeed to prove she was worth something. cuz they literally keep the line in the group vent where she says she thinks she's too stupid for her family, but they don't give the context that her family are all literal geniuses and she's average. oh and in the end turns out she just had a learning diability.
great video as always, just slay after slay
I really like getting such long comments lol. They're always fun to read :)
18:43 Wen getting hit in the eye with a picture frame gave me a deep fear of having my eye damaged that way 😬😬
I always felt like this movie was Naomi Scott’s audition tape for Aladdin
not to say i know more about the characters than the writers but i feel like it would've made more scene if charlie got his injury bc of the pressure he felt from his parents to be like his brother, but this would also require them developing him as more than the crush he had on mo, so they clearly weren't going to let that happen.
The Nintendo sound effects combined with your humor is so perfect thank you for being on RUclips 😭
Of course! We love our lord and savior Nintendo!
I'm pretty sure olivia's dad actually IS in prison for manslaughter
And armed robbery.
I prefer my theory, but I think this is more likely
The Splatoon salmon run music always gives me flashbacks
Mel was old college buddies with Wen's dad, that's why he was at the wedding.
The school district I was in had a deal with Pepsi so the only drinks we could legally sell both in vending machines and at concession stands were PepsiCola products... but only diet because Michelle said.
HiKei: *labels Olivia White as "White" for her "intro"*
Also HiKei: why is Olivia obsessed with lemonade???
Me: 👀👀👀👀
I hadn't watched this DCOM (by the time it came out, I was graduating high school and already in my "I'm too good for DCOMs" phase, but was I really?), but honestly, looks like one I would have enjoyed. I'll have to check out the songs!
Thanks for another fun review!
it was in front of me all along lmao
As a white kid, I can confirm
@Normal Human I wish I could laugh react to this 🤣 thank you for validating this with your expertise 🤘
Still waiting for Hayley Kiyoko to show up here
It’ll happen eventually
I really enjoy your breakdowns of these movies. Your personality and humour are fantastic for this format. I really hope you get more subs, your content is wayyy to good for you to be this small! Keep up the good vibes!
I appreciate that! I think I've found my calling
I remember in second grade our teacher showed us this movie while giving us lemonade.
I don't think I would've ever forgotten that, honestly that sounds sweet of them :)
u have the most vibey and cozy looking bedroom that i have ever seen a man have
I think it’s cause I have the bisexual gender goblin. Or something like that 🤷🏾
Wow I did not remember the entire second half of this movie. Great review, your explanation is really entertaining and I like seeing your opinions on different aspects of the movie.
Glad you enjoyed it!
i had to stop the video, go watch determinate, then came back
No yeah, I don't blame you
LETS FUCKING GOOOOO LEMONADE MOUTH VIDEO REVIEW
11:08 The duet they sing actually is determinate, its the beginning portion of the song
I feel so dumb not realizing that...
@@hikeilokei u are dumb, he literally says determinate twice while singing it in the scene ? like damn did u even watch it, Makes me rethink your commentary
The most surprising part of lemonade mouth was that Disney had the restraint to not milk out a sequel
Lemonade mouth music is the best music change my mind
I can't because it literally does
This movie was the peak of my childhood. Can't wait to see the chaos you morph it into
The point of this movie is, if you are down, it makes you warm and fuzzy.
who is gonna tell him the guy who played wen just got out of prison
Lemonade mouth, Cheetah Girls and Let it shine are my favorite musical Dcom and I always wanted the movie to have a sequel
Lemonade Mouth, Sweet or Sour? It's a lot more memorable and after this video, I think it still holds up
Stella had me acting up back in the day
Based for that
as a kid i genuinely thought they were just drinking mikes
I wish but unfortunately "underaged drinking" is "illegal"
This movie fundamentally changed my life
she’s so gone is a fucking banger
Yeah this movie didn't really seem to know how to flesh out its characters. Or at least that's the impression I got.
@@hikeilokei That makes sense now that you mention it.
When I was little my friend was explaining the plot of the movie to me and my dumbass brain thought that the lemonade was magic and gave them the power to sing
PRINCIPAL BRANNIGAN AS RADIO REBEL HELPPP
this movie was so gd formative for my brain, stella is the reason i'm such a political FOOOOOL
I think she's a good role model
3:11 “not avan jogia” is so foul 😭😭
We know who he wishes he was
18:42 why tf did this catch me so off guard
Actually, the more you get into this film the more you realize how derivative of ethnic stereotypes the conflicts are. All of the main actors of color are biracial, so you get the sense the writer's room didn't have much diversity. Also, Stella's actress does have a female partner, so you're not off there
And I find it so ironic that she lost her voice after drinking so much lemonade.
(She was 16, he was 27)
Mo's actress was 18 and Charlie's actor was 14 when they were filming, so understandable even though she was BARE MINIMUM legal back then.
Yeah that makes sense to be fair
@@kagemaru397 it would still be weird for a 18 year old to date a 14 year old.
@@babyfaceweeb8937 Agreed And illegal in the US. (my country)
i just came across your channel and it gave me WHIPLASH hearing botw sound effects in a video not related to zelda at all but it was such a nice touch i am HAPPY and subscribing!!
I was not expecting to hear the salmon run music during this video
No one ever does 😭
i discovered ur channel today from ur emoji movie video, saw this video and immediately clicked bc lemonade mouth is my fav dcom, and then u compared charlie to haru p5. im sold! u r the youtuber ever
Lol I’m glad I found your channel! You’re so funny!! 😭😭
Thank you I’m glad you enjoyed!
@@hikeilokei np!! Im looking forward to the day you get over 5 million subscribers!

that joke about lemonade based classic conditioning almost made me spit out my drink… and yes it WAS lemonade😳😳
Please tell me you poured lemonade specifically because this is a lemonade mouth video
I love being early in this video and hearing this guy talk shit about Scott knowing how the movie ends
That guy sucks
Two things #1 the ‘found a new item Breath of the Wild’ sound takes my brain to a very specific place I can’t focus on this movie from lol #2 still watching but hoping u look up how dude who played Wen went to prison in real life, got out, then back working on his rap career
haha yeah I heard about it. I just didn't want to make a habit of touching on EVERY crime committed by ex Disney kids. Because they get into a lot of controversy apparently
i saw your zombies video and im obbessed with ur videos now ‼️
BRO SAME
i LOVE the botw music and sound effects u use. always gives me nostalgia and it’s relaxing
Ok algorithm! Love the vibe of this video and finding new Black content creators.
This is the exact opposite of how money flows in schools.
The sports programs are the ones who MAKE money. Money is then taken from the sports teams to go toward arts and sciences. This is why sports often have such a high budget - Because they are where the money comes from in the first place.
I’ve been binge watching your videos because they’re funny man, I love these so much
determinate does go hard wth
why did no one question how the principal rode around on that scooter. students would be fighting in the cafeteria and he'd pull up like 'I WOKE UP IN A NEW BUGATTI'
me and my friends had a bit when we were kids where whenever we saw lemonade we'd sing "da-lemonade" to the tune of determinate
3:17 lol how did we get to “Beck” lol his name was “Charlie”
i have the same nathan cat squishmallow that u have and when i saw it i got so unreasonably excited over it
I found you through your Emoji movie video and damn dude, you are so fucking funny
Thank you and based pfp by the way
My favorite thing about this movie was watching it with my high school rock band and making fun of it lmao
First video I’ve seen and I gotta subscribe. Such a good commentator
Thank you! I hope you check out my other commentaries! My personal favorite is Spy Kids 2 :)
Jesus christ I forgot this existed. Thank you for validating my junior high theater class experience.
