The High School Musical franchise is the definition of dumb fun lol, and I feel like people just got really attached to the simple characters and how the actors brought the roles to life. Like I think the second movie has got some weird pacing and stuff, but the plot is a little more complex than the first movie, and there are a lot more interactions between the side characters. Also the music gets better as the trilogy goes on, in my opinion. The HSM 3 soundtrack never misses. And then there's the whole "zanessa" stuff that definitely boosted the fandom even more lol
Really I think it's just the distilled essence of what every american kid thinks high school will be like/what american adults who weren't bullied remember of high school. Hell, high school was a shitty time for me and I still get some weird nostalgia from the movie since it feels like the couple of good days that i had. I didn't even watch the damn thing until senior year, it just perfectly distills the fun parts of american high school! The reason it's so dumb and borderline nonsensical is because the majority of the high school experience is not good at all so to get just the good bits you cut out pretty much the entire experience, leaving a disparate string of events you gotta piece together in a way that almost kinda makes sense. Kinda like how traumatic years of childhood are remembered lol

Although Troy is popular, this movie quite literally shows how much of a box he is put in and how limited/misunderstood he feels by the people around him. He is scared to break free and feels forced to stick to the status quo. That is a pretty good grasp on the high school experience. The only thing that makes this probably different than most people's experience is because he had Gabriella, aka someone who he could outwardly express himself to and relate to, and because in the end he and everyone were ultimately able to break free

In the end, no matter what, everyone eventually comes to an understanding and joins together for one more song. It's a feature, and one a lot of other disney movies can't properly replicate
As an Assistant Drama Director for the high school in the district I work for, I can say that you absolutely want to see the performers go all out at an audition. This is for two reasons. 1. If a student is terrific, you feel confident that they're going to do well in the roll. 2. If a student is terrible and tone deaf, then the entire thing is... well, I think you can imagine. 😂

Looking back, I personally think the second movie is the best. Might be cause I like summer themed movies and I personally think some of the songs are better. Not to say I don't like the songs in the first movie but I just kind of gravitate more towards the ones in the sequel. I also like seeing Gabriella be more outspoken in the sequel and how Sharpay is significantly more evil while admittingly also doing something noble for Troy even if it's for selfish reasons and also Ryan being more fleshed out. I never really got into the third movie cause I think by that time, I kinda moved on from High School Musical.
My friend and I rewatched the movies this week and omg the way my nostalgia brain thought this movie had the highest budget. Most of the songs legit sound like an actual cast in a musical if they had studio quality recording. The Status Quo literally sounds like 3-4 background vocals with only a few instruments playing. Even still I love this movie and the idea that Troy can't do anything but play Basketball is so funny. Zeke isn't even allowed to bake in the comfort of his own home without being seen as an outcast.

I think that the swim and basketball seasons run next to each other for a good bit. If that’s correct, the basketball season would start in the middle of fall and end near the end of January or right after. That would make it so that the last game being a few weeks after the semester starts isn’t so strange. I swam, and it worked like that. We started in last September and ended in late January. I remember that basketball was always practicing down the hall when I got out of swim practice, so I assumed that we were both winter sports. I think basketball ends a little earlier or a little later than swimming.
When you think about it we’re all in this together actually feels wrong because they weren’t in it together. Taylor, Chad, Ryan & Sharpay were sabotaging to not have Troy and Gabriella be in the musical

It did not happen with my cellphone, but my notebook that had most of my script in it. It was the last period and was not interested in the boring documentary and wanted to write. Got in trouble and the teacher took my notebook and never returned it even at the end of the year like what the heck? Yes, I was a coward by not asking for it back out of fear of making the situation worse, but no teacher should take your stuff and never return it. That is wrong. Did I deserve to get in trouble for not following rules. Yes, but did I deserve to not have a precious thing taken from me? No. So am I surprised that Miss Darbus did this? No. Teachers do this, but she is far from the worst person or teacher I have experienced. I had my own version of Umbridge and that tops any teacher including Miss Darbus for worst person/teacher ever.

In the third movie he does do both so his internal dilemma makes no sense for 'getcha head in the game' lol
It takes three whole movies for him to come to that conclusion though. So of course he's going to be conflicted about it right near the beginning (/nm, just really passionate about HSM lore lol)
