What an incredibly helpful documentary. Recently someone younger but otherwise just like me (adhd, on the spectrum), came into my life and together we excel. I've been revitalised , became active, creative, adventurous and lost loads of weight in a few months. After watching this, it's all making more sense now. I've had a profoundly religious experience, shed vices, and reconnecting with friends "long lost" with new enthusiasm. The chart is so real to me! WOW! Suddenly I got answers I've been looking for for most of my life!

I must say that I thoroughly enjoy watching Thoughty-2. I don’t know what is his profession or level of education but I guess he has either a PhD or MD - he’s the smartest person in RUclips that I regularly watch, and that’s including Neil deGrasse or the Japanese-American astrophysicist that I can’t remember his name now. He is quite versed in psychology, medicine, history, and other subjects, but explains things in an entertaining and humorous way that any ordinary bloke like me can understand.

@@stanslvrt8705 YEah, I think so too. One procrastinates badly, then, pushed to a wall, must sink or swim..so we swim by cramming the whole big project into fruition at the 11th hour. Did that all through school. Did fine. But OMG, could I procrastinate! For very good reasons, of course...
I think those who do this, may also be good at "creative problem solving", so, we are good at being in situations that require fast-viable-solutions. We do stress, but not in emotional ways, and not excessively. But, by having to condense a whole project into a shorter time, our brains kick-into high-gear, "problem solving" instead of flying apart at emotional hinges....how about you?

Awesome vid! Love the concept. A flow-state is what I think of as the times I am so focused and engrossed in a task, that I have no time to think about anything but what I am doing in that moment and the hours just fly by. It could also be reading a book, or binging Thoughty2 videos. I find I need not need the heart-pumping excitement of doing extreme sports or working at a pizza joint during the Super Bowl. I used to get lost in my high-school math and science homework that I wouldn’t feel the need to eat, pee, or take any kind of break from the smooth way my brain was going, enjoying, and learning. Only when I looked up at the clock when I finish would I notice that it’s past midnight already! Flow can be found in almost anything you love to do. Especially binging this channel!

As a commercial pilot, I feel as soon as I step foot onto the tarmac, I fall into that “Flow State” mindset. As the fear of a life threatening critical failure or god forbid a pilot operational error could result in certain death. There by engaging this personal perspective of what I can only consider a form of sustained “fight or flight” response within a controlled manner, until I’m relieved of my duty to the aircraft. Your explanation on this rapid influx of performance within our cognitive perception, especially under the presumption of potential danger. Has an oddly familiar tone to that of which I repeatedly experience. Definitely an interesting subject into how our brains function. Actually my "default" state of mind is what I call "semi-meditation". It's a very relaxed - but also totally alert state of mind. The trick is to stop "thinking in words i.e. language". To become an observer of one's own thoughts. Without judging them thoughts at all. Thoughts cannot harm you, right ? Just allow them to "happen" and after a while they will reside and a highly beneficial, peaceful and amazingly relaxing silence will occur in your mind. You'll notice you'll hear, see and smell better than ever before. Yes, one can't hear much if there's lots of "noise" going on in one's mind..
Btw. I got to tell you folks I'm an old guy, almost 71. I'm also a very lucky guy, because I found out what real freedom is. Not what you may think it is.. I found it is: being your own master i.e. being in control of your own mind. To be absolutely honest with yourself, respecting yourself (and others too, of course) and - very important - realizing nobody is perfect, least of all weird old me.. I don't have to be perfect, I only have to be me - and accept life as it is. And that's good enough.
One thing I know: this world and universe if infinitely interesting. Sometimes even a little bit too damn interesting.. Aww !
(For those not getting it: in the ancient Chinese civilization is was a curse to wish someone to "have interesting times").
Yes, I'm a retired scholar and I love to read (science, history, etc.) books - and I got a pretty weird and kinda wicked sense of "humor".. Hope you folks don't mind - even like it.
Blessed Be - May you all be the very best "you" possible and find true Peace of Mind - within your own.. mind !
    ❤😊😊❤

I've been interested in this subject for a while but I've never really looked into it. It's always intrigued me when I realized that I'd been so focused I lost hours doing something and had very little recollection of doing all I'd done and yet had done so much so well. When I was little it was reading, then it became programming, now it is driving. Well, racing. To me it seems like tuning out and checking in, versus the opposite. I start thinking about everything except what I'm doing, then all of a sudden I realize my brakes are almost metal on metal, my tires are down to the steel, and I've completed 40 laps of a 3.6 mile circuit in just over an hour. Realizing that you've been zoned out for the last hour while averaging 120 miles per hour is frightening but it's perfect. I've always wondered what that state of mind is be called.

The "Flow" was really interesting. I had actually learned about it before, but by a different name and associated with a specific group of people. Those people, being autistics, and the flow being "hyper-focusing" which is something we do naturally when we are doing something we enjoy. I had no idea that it had another name, and was something pursued by athletes while being viewed as another thing that needs to be "cured" about autism

I'd leave it up to the individual in every case to decide whether or not something should be "cured". As long as a person with autism is happy and not hurting anyone else there is nothing to cure. To them, their situation is their version of normal, they shouldn't be so quick to limit themselves or try to be like most people. Unless they are suffering in some way. Autism can be a superpower, I think it should be embraced rather than cured. But society is obsessed with everybody fitting the mold.

Flow is very similar to hyperfocus which is one way for ppl with ADHD to self medicate with the feel good hormone cocktail we lack. Luckily we are usually very curious and passionate making it easy to get in the flow but very difficult to get out of. As far as "The Flow State" goes I've most often found it on my motorcycle but I've also found that the rate at which the difficulty needed to increase to maintain that state was was rapidly approaching the "get you dead, fast - zone". I was run over once and went back to riding as soon as my bike was fixed. Since then I have not been able to achieve that same focus for longer than mere minutes. I have an extremely dangerous job in the most dangerous city in the US. - this is where the ability to understand what's happening when that focus does kick in, becomes paramount to success.

Whatever your chosen “avenue” for what you’re doing it for, can actually have a very significant impact. May not be as frequent as the quantity engaging along with the duration of time spent, but depending on random occurrences and outcomes, some within the control of the individual and those out of the control (so far out in fact, that there is no chance of prior knowledge) so even if you can accumulate a substantial percentage of a lifetime engaged in your “activity” you can also have it be your very last.. not relegated to being the main cause.. merely acting as an influence to be somewhere an even far more dangerous scenario can occur. That’s an everyday part of life.

    Mate, good video.
    Just a quick personal experience.
I suffered from sternoclavicluar joint dislocations then had a cortisone injection in my neck. The dislocation or the injection caused multiple embolic strokes. For years I had a burning pain in my head. One of the GPs I met told me to use magic mushrooms as a microdose. I did and after only 1 week the burning went. The joint and muscle pain along with neuropathic pain is also significantly reduced by this.
The morphine and all that stuff just made me sick. Yet, the CBD/THC oil, again as a microdose worked.
As a former police officer I would not recommend doing what I did as mushrooms are a class a drug. Yet, I took the unconventional advice from the GP and it's worked a treat.

When I was in school, I was a book lover. So I often used to study in between classes. I dint know back then what is flow state but I lost the sense of the noise in class, students chatting, and also I felt time stood by. I used to be so deeply engrossed in studying that once, I carried a book in family picnic and could actually study amidst the noise. Maybe coz in those days my family was an absolute circus, in fighting etc so my mind kind of adopted itself to that noisy restless situation. But it's been years since I could be in that flow state. Seems that long hours of doing something intently without any forceful effort is the key. Mobile and social media is a curse.

  • @jennismith2

Flow state/mindfulness is achieved when your mind is singularly focused on external stimuli (problem solving, creating, performing) rather than on the mind’s internal stimuli/“chatter”. Meditation seems to still “internal chatter” by either redirecting “inner talk”or by focusing the mind on a single thing.
One helpful trick to nudge yourself closer to the Flow state (or out of self-consciousness) is to focus your attention on external stimuli…look at every shape and color around you, focus on the sensory details of the present. Your mind has trouble attending to both your inner-state (“mind chatter”) and your outer state (the world around you).
They’re reciprocal…by “turning up the dial” on one them the other is automatically turned down.

In this time, most mistakes happen. On the weekend where we shoot out 70 meals an hour, for 12+ hours, nearly no single mistake is made

Oddly enough, I accidently ran out of head meds Friday. It's the kind your not supposed to just stop taking but are to be guided by your doctor to taper off slowly to zero, in order to prevent permanent neuro system damage. It's been a very tough weekend. My head is zinging constantly. It's Monday morning. I woke up at about 3 am and am having an anxiety attack. What do I do to cope and escape it all? I watch RUclips videos. How ironic that I should have stumbled upon this one.

I have a theory, We've spent so many years now making everything idiot-proof that we are now over run by idiots. It use to be idiots were taken out by simple things like sticking a knife in a toaster. Someone decided to stamp on toasters "Do Not Insert Metal Object" so now those idiots are spared. This is one example but you get the picture.

    • @laster3753

You may not believe this, but many influential ( as in important for a good reason instead of sub surface observations like their skin color or ethnicity ) thinkers have this debate and it's very, VERY controversial. On one hand, we are making things safer and more stream lined for the entirety of Earth's population, but on the other hand it also prevents many of Earth's Darwin Award Recipients from being kicked out of the pool reserved for those that are high in intellect and conscientiousness to the point where nepotism or other archaic hierarchical structures allow these sorts of people into a position of power where they mismanage their Human Resources and overall bring millions of people to their worst times. However, it is obvious that if you de-humanise anyone, you are walking into the traps that so many have fallen into during dictatorships, biggest examples have to be Unit 731 and Auschwitz. Both of which had mostly average and humane people doing unspeakable things to those unlucky enough to be thrown in, just because they have been brainwashed to not perceive them as anything more than a means to an end, to the point where mothers that were turned into subjects at Unit 731 had their children ( and for the most part, babies ) snuffed out right infront of them as any offspring from human garbage is only going to grow up to be human garbage ( according to the propaganda that brainwashed them ).
All in all, damned if we do, damned if we don't. I think we should leave the natural selection to nature and not actively manufacture life threatening 'filters' for those that are perceived to be unworthy, because playing god is one of the biggest missteps in humanity that will lead to nothing good.

Same thing with biological life. It used to be that back then, if you lost some teeth, there were no dentists to fix it. So you wouldn’t eat and die. If you were born with some disease, chances were that you would’ve been dead before being able to reproduce and pass it on because nature only wants the smartest and strongest. Modern medicine has conflicted with that.

    • @ViolentMLG
      @ViolentMLG 3 года назад +4

That's not really a theory. Its called natural selection, and yes, due to us protecting people, we're hindering the process of natural selection. We're passing on bad genes, and technically idiots who lead dumb lives who would've probably died get to teach their kids to follow their lead, though I can't say whether idiots dying would help 'protect society' or lead a better one, or if that would matter in the grand scheme.
Though I would say "Don't stick metal in a toaster" is more along the lines of preventing getting sued whenever your 3-yearold tries to jam a fork in it and dies, more than protecting idiots. Idiots will always be abundant. Not sure if letting them die will fix much.

Truthfully, I can attest that cultivating that state of suspension between waking and sleeping has led to some of the most incredible experiences I’ve ever had. Learning to slip into dreaming-while-awake, even if it’s just for a few moments at a time, has proven to be the most valuable thing I’ve ever learned. And the best of those experiences, I’ve found, are those that are “purposeless “....where there’s no goal or particular agenda driving the state. Just let go....and move into the darkness behind closed eyes....and the most incredible things appear! 😀
