I have this idea in my head of getting a mount for my iPad and rigging it on a shoulder mount along with my mirrorless camera. I feel like if you had a large enough green screen area you could do what you were saying, but I'm not sure how to go about that specifically. Any date on that new video?
No date yet I tried to record it on a set close to me back in August but it didn't work out well I needed some stuff I didn't have on me at the time but we are going to try and shoot again sometime in October.
Very nice tutorial I have question when I set up everything it works fine the only problem when my ipad moves its not following its not rotating 360 views please help
Thanks for this Winbush! Two questions- When I press play, I can see the viewport on my ipad, but moving it around doesn't move the camera at all, any idea? And two- what's the point of putting in the Cine Camera? How are you telling Unreal to use that camera specifically? Without writing it in a blueprint, Unreal will just jump to your player start or default 0/0/0...
Interesting tutorial. I got the connection between iPad and Unreal but only camera movements, in iPad I only see the color bar tones. ¿ do you know the reason ?
@@JonathanWinbush thanks for reply. Now I see the camera image on iPhone, it works but only at 50%. I move the iPhone and I see the camera movement on my computer screen but the image on iPhone remains static, there is no movement on iPhone
great Tut - however I get some lag when moving my iphone around - any tips on how to solve this. (apart from use an Ipad lol!) Also, in some other tutorials they talk about enabling ARkit on the phone and on Unreal .... I don't think I recall you doing that (could be wrong! Apologies if I am) but is that a step we can ignore?
THanks man but I think from what I've read it really relies on your router as well so if you have a good router that helps but also I think people being online might lower it as well.
The best tutorial I've ever seen! Thank you! Is it possible to use such a combination that the iPad will be like a tracker, but the video recording will be on some 4K camcorde? I mean real actor on a green background? Maybe you have such cool tutorial?
I followed it and it works, but I have 2 questions, I'm using an iphone 7 at the moment : 1. Whenever I run the game through PIE the camera is offset turned 90 degrees from where it should be pointing. I know this because I made a floor layout of my house so I know what I should see as I point the camera around. This also causes me to drift out of the map once I walk down my hall because its going 90 degrees the wrong way. Is there a way to calibrate direction of the camera like you do with the HTC Vive? 2. When I run the PIE, the resolution takes a HUGE hit and looks almost like a Playstation 2 game, all blurry textured and whatnot. Is there a way to control the Uremote 2 quality settings?
For your first question just make sure your using the selected camera and it should align correctly before you hit play and for the quality I've not had this happen but since it's streaming over wifi it might have to do with the router but I'm just guessing.
Any chances on locking the screen horizontally in iphone when using this feature? Cant stop it from spinning back to vertical mode when i turn the camera :(
Hi, thanks for your tutorial. can i use any i phone or there is any I Phone limitation. Because i have i phone 5 i cant use virtual move. only i can do move forward and back. Please replay ..

a quick question for UE4. For a 5 minute lecture, i wanted to record live-footage thats keyed in my own created map. But I also wanted to pan the camera with my iphone as a tracker. Here is my problem, when i am recording in UE4 and press play to start my live camera it does not appear. I can move the virtual camera with my iphone but the plane on which the footage should be is just black. The Camera is blueprinted so that when i press start- the camera starts. I can also see it working just in the recording its black or a freeze frame. Any help?
New Subscriber here! Thanks for sharing this. I got it to work although it froze several times. Can I use this with an Xbox controller and use the joysticks for pan, tilt, zoom and etc.?
Hi man, thanks so much for this tutorial, you really helped me out! The only thing is that for me it seems to be only tracking the rotation of my phone so I can't walk in or out for example. Do you or does anyone know what may be causing this problem? I'm using a Iphone 7+ btw.
Ohh and is there also a way to let the camera start at the place/rotation of the cinecamera? When hitting play in my scene right now I keep being spawned at places where I don't want to be spawned at.
Hi, just wondering.. It's working on my iphone 7+, but it's not working on ipad. I have visual on my ipad. Just that it doesn't move and stay still when handheld my ipad. I'm not sure whats happening.
Awesome tutorial! JSFilmz brought me here from mentioning you in a video tutorial he did on hooking up your iPhone and using it as a camera tracker. This is awesome. Just curious if there is another device other than an iPad or iPhone that can be used so that there isn't any camera shake and is easier to handle while getting that stabilization?

I don't I just followed the steps in the document and it worked for me I didn't have to do anything else special that I didn't do in the video. Are you on discord maybe one of the Dev's in the UE4 discord channel would know how to set the ports they are usually pretty helpful with the trouble shooting.
Wow dude! First time I've seen your work and I subbed right away. I've seen the NDI HX Camera app to get a live video feed from an iOS device in UE4. Is there any way to combine this with Unreal Remote 2 to create live greenscreen composites?
How does it track your body movement in space .. "tracking your traveling in the room space" ! Rotation i can imagine Gyroscope would be responsible for this .. but how come Movement ?! and whats the space size limit for movement it can capture ? Great Video, goodjob
Yea man honestly I'm not sure what magic they did to make it work. I know a Vive tracking will get better results but I was able to get pretty good with my iPad. I'm guessing the limit would be how far you can go and still get an Wifi signal. I walked into my other room with it and was still able to get a pretty good response still.

Hmm since it's going off Wifi I guess if your bandwidth is being choked by other people being on it that could happen. I noticed a little lag on mine but it was manageable the recordings on the desktop came out clean.
@@JonathanWinbush it was so bad over wifi that I went and set it up over ethernet. iPad directly to PC. The viewport on the desktop is smooth its just the video share on the iPad. Maybe I shouldn't have had such high expectations - Epic's demo at GDC seemed smooth. I'm not sure what else to try except switch to Vive and string HDMI to a 7" monitor on a camera rig. Disappointed.
Whats the point of dragging a CineCameraActor to the scene if Vcam just creates a new one when you press play? Is there any specific ways of possessing a specific CineCameraActor on the scene?

Good day! Unfortunately, this application does not show the image (No Signal) on the UE 4.25 version (the input works), and on the UE 4.26 version, the control does not work, but the picture is there. I am inclined to believe that the built-in Remote Session plug-in on UE4.25 does not want to work in the application, which is based on this application. It is noteworthy that using the UE4.26 version it works, but the ARKIT / LiveLink based control does not. I tried a fresh version on the 26th version of VCam - constant crashes within 2 minutes of use on IOS. IPad 8 (2020) ios 14.4. I would be grateful for any answer. This situation after studying the forums unreal could not.
@@JonathanWinbush Hey! I found a solution (thanks to Moo Chung). This problem is not in the iOS device. Not in the Unreal Remote 2.1 update. The problem is in the engine config (it was fixed in 4.26). Solution: 1) Go to the place where your engine is located in the desired directory to the config (C: \ Program Files \ Epic Games \ UE_4.25 \ Engine \ Config \ BaseEngine.ini) 2) Find the line about Remote Session: ([RemoteSession] + ChannelRedirects = (OldName = FRemoteSessionFrameBufferChannel, NewName = FRemoteSessionFrameBufferChannel_DEPRECATED)) should work: ([RemoteSession] "+ ChannelRedirects = (OldName = FRemoteSessionFrameBufferChannel, NewName = FRemoteSessionFrameBufferChannel_DEPRECATED)" Just delete it or put it in quotes starting with "+". Vaul Remote Session Plugin (along with Virtual Camera) - Works on 4.25.4!

Random question, but when you're sending a scene from C4D to Unreal (like you did for the Maxon NAB 2020 stream), does it keep the same scale? Like, is a 160cm - 180cm still real world scale upon import? Trying to maintain eye-lines for some pre-viz stuff, AND I'm SUPER OCD. Thanks in advance!

No date yet I tried to record it on a set close to me back in August but it didn't work out well I needed some stuff I didn't have on me at the time but we are going to try and shoot again sometime in October.
Thank you♥
Of course thank you 🙏🏾
Do you have a video on how to hook a camera? like a DSLR
I have this one but the green screen plugin was discontinued ruclips.net/video/L4ySKY208SE/видео.html
Thanks for your tutorial
I have a question, How should I render it exclude Virtual Camera toolbar????
I'm not 100% sure what you mean but does my latest video help? ruclips.net/video/qTXt-UJeP8E/видео.html
I'm looking for help for the same thing. How do you render out the movie without the camera HUD being included in the render?
Very nice tutorial I have question when I set up everything it works fine the only problem when my ipad moves its not following its not rotating 360 views please help
Maybe watch one of my newer tutorials on the ipad setup theres been updates in the later versions of UE
@@JonathanWinbush Thanks bro more power to you.,.
I think it's been updated since this tutorial was done check out one of my latest videos on it might help with the new setup thats out now
Never mind! I just looked at the new documentation and you have to set up Live Link now... that's why it wasn't moving.
Interesting tutorial. I got the connection between iPad and Unreal but only camera movements, in iPad I only see the color bar tones. ¿ do you know the reason ?
I'm not really sure seems like a connection issue somewhere. Could be with the router maybe 🤷🏿♂️
@@JonathanWinbush thanks for reply.
Now I see the camera image on iPhone, it works but only at 50%. I move the iPhone and I see the camera movement on my computer screen but the image on iPhone remains static, there is no movement on iPhone
You are great
Thanks! 😊
Yes! This awesome.
Thank you Luke glad you dig it!
Thanks for the tut! I seem to be stuck with 2 joysticks and no camera controls.. Any idea why? I cant find any info on this!
Im sorry im not sure in that
same for me. I'm trying to figure this out
great Tut - however I get some lag when moving my iphone around - any tips on how to solve this.
@@JonathanWinbush ah the router may be it! Thanks again for all your excellent tuts!
@@oberdoofus No probel at all. If it helps Im using a netgear nighthawk its about 4 years old
The best tutorial I've ever seen! Thank you! Is it possible to use such a combination that the iPad will be like a tracker, but the video recording will be on some 4K camcorde? I mean real actor on a green background? Maybe you have such cool tutorial?
Its possible but the iPad is so large it was tough to attach to the camera comfortably. I believe i saw people do this with iPhones though.
I followed it and it works, but I have 2 questions, I'm using an iphone 7 at the moment :
Great tutortial! Hey is it possible to render the result without the HUD? For final production. Cheers
Ya when you record to the sequencer it shouldn't have the hud on there just whats in your viewport
@@JonathanWinbush that's right, inside Unreal it doesn't have it, but when i render the movie to the AVI format the video appears with the HUD :(
@@gerardosanchezrivas7838 Same for me.
Any chances on locking the screen horizontally in iphone when using this feature? Cant stop it from spinning back to vertical mode when i turn the camera :(
Id say turn off then reconnect your wifi maybe
Awesome
Thank you man 🤙🏾
Hi, thanks for your tutorial. can i use any i phone or there is any I Phone limitation. Because i have i phone 5 i cant use virtual move. only i can do move forward and back. Please replay ..
Honestly I'm not sure i only have my iPad
Hey WINBUSH! I was curious, would the iPad 2 work as a virtual camera?
I'm not 100% sure about that I dont have one to test out
@@JonathanWinbush Fair enough! What version is the one you are using? Just trying to budget myself and not spend too much. Thought maybe getting an older version would help save. I appreciate the help and content once again!
@@The_Burly_Bat ya no worries I have this 2018 version amzn.to/3i6k3KF
You'd probably be better off getting a more recent one though. I'd imagine any current ipad would work since it used the gyro sensor to track the camera movement.
@@JonathanWinbushVery helpful! You're the man, WINBUSH! You're awesome!
@@The_Burly_Bat all good my friend happy to help 🤙🏾
This is awesome! Is there anyway to take the handheld camera movement and export that to use in cinema 4d?
You can export everything as an fbx but it doesn't always come into c4d correctly Ive already told epic about it so hopefully they fix that soon.
WINBUSH oh cool, so the camera movement is being auto set to keyframes or does that need its own setup? Sorry very new to Unreal and its workflow
Yea it's no problem at all. So usually just keyframes will work for your camera but on C4Dlive that intro shot I had to bake those keyframes because I was using the target tag on my camera.
Hey man, thanks for this amazing tutorial. Just one question, I don't know why the virtualcameragamemode option doesn't appear in the gamemode override options, even after have installed all the pluggins. Thanks very much C:
That one I'm unsure off except restarting UE after you activate the plugin
Hi and thanks!!! Great tutorial!. Have you tried with the last version of Unreal ( 4.25.1 ) on Mac? the U Remote doesn't connect... ( I also have the 4.24.3 and works perfectly...)
Hmm I did update to 4.25.1 but I haven't tried this yet I just updated the other night but I can only test it out on PC I don't have any Macs here but let me check on my system anyways.
My ipad with UE4 working. but ipad camera frozen little.. Ipad Air 3. what's your ipad? Thanks.
I don't remember off the top the model number but I know I showed it in the video where I show where to select you device
Great interview yesterday, one question Trapcode Particular or Mettle Flux?
Thanks Dave, Flux isn't an particle system its more for like creating abstract art like nebulas and stuff so it really depends on what your going for.
@@JonathanWinbush cheers for getting back to me, I just assumed it was a particle system after seeing some examples of it. Won't have time to play with it anyway, next challenge to learn C4D after your advice yesterday 👌👍
Will this work with a iPhone?
Yup
i followed all the steps and i can see the game play but i cant see any of the UI controls of the virtual camera just the two circles on the sides to move camera thats it! cant figure out how to get it to work heeelp

Im having the same issue! have you figured this out?
Isaac Kershner not yet but let’s figure out together
a quick question for UE4.
Any help?
I'm not sure maybe try an image sequence for the video instead
@@JonathanWinbush thank you I will try it!
New Subscriber here! Thanks for sharing this. I got it to work although it froze several times. Can I use this with an Xbox controller and use the joysticks for pan, tilt, zoom and etc.?
Ya ive used my xbox controller before just hook it up
@@JonathanWinbush Thanks for the quick response brother!
Not really sure but the controls on the camera can be used to pull forward and back as well I know
Does it work if you put player start in your scene
Great video! Can I use this tracking sistem and chroma Key Compositing in real time? Maybe puting the Ipad above the camera and use them toguether?
I've been trying the ipad on my camera is heavy and bulky so I ordered a gopro to see if that'll work
Watch the LIVE with Mettle. Thanks for sharing!

Hi, just wondering.. It's working on my iphone 7+, but it's not working on ipad. I have visual on my ipad. Just that it doesn't move and stay still when handheld my ipad. I'm not sure whats happening.
maybe check the unreal documents to see which device versions are supported
Awesome tutorial! JSFilmz brought me here from mentioning you in a video tutorial he did on hooking up your iPhone and using it as a camera tracker. This is awesome. Just curious if there is another device other than an iPad or iPhone that can be used so that there isn't any camera shake and is easier to handle while getting that stabilization?

i dont think it does no
@@JonathanWinbush i see engine documentation say the app always uses port 2049 to communicate with Unreal Engine,do you know how set it?
I don't I just followed the steps in the document and it worked for me I didn't have to do anything else special that I didn't do in the video. Are you on discord maybe one of the Dev's in the UE4 discord channel would know how to set the ports they are usually pretty helpful with the trouble shooting.
Wow dude! First time I've seen your work and I subbed right away. I've seen the NDI HX Camera app to get a live video feed from an iOS device in UE4. Is there any way to combine this with Unreal Remote 2 to create live greenscreen composites?
First off thanks for the sub i appreciate it. Im not familiar with the HX app what does that do exactly?

How does it track your body movement in space .. "tracking your traveling in the room space" ! Rotation i can imagine Gyroscope would be responsible for this .. but how come Movement ?! and whats the space size limit for movement it can capture ?
Great Video, goodjob
Yea man honestly I'm not sure what magic they did to make it work. I know a Vive tracking will get better results but I was able to get pretty good with my iPad. I'm guessing the limit would be how far you can go and still get an Wifi signal. I walked into my other room with it and was still able to get a pretty good response still.

Any tips on how to get a good frame rate?
I'm using an ethernet connection from desktop to a iPad Pro 2020 and I can't even get a decent frame rate scaled down to 800x600. The tracking is solid when looking on desktop but then what's the point of the iPad screen if it's so laggy?
Thanks.

I mean I dont think it auto enables you activate it when you want to use it.
Hey winbush. As try as I might I can’t get my uremote app to connect to unreal. I’ve followed the docs. Got the right IP address. Followed your tut, which is great, but the app won’t connect. It’s the uremote 2 btw. I have an iPhone 11. Any suggestions? I’m about to go nuts. Cheers man.
Unfortunately I only have my iPad here to work with I don't own an iPhone so I wouldn't be able to test it but do you have an iPad maybe or another iPhone you can use just to test with to make sure its not just that phone?
Have you tried the 4.26 method i show in a later tutorial
@@JonathanWinbush Hey! I found a solution (thanks to Moo Chung). This problem is not in the iOS device. Not in the Unreal Remote 2.1 update. The problem is in the engine config (it was fixed in 4.26). Solution:
1) Go to the place where your engine is located in the desired directory to the config (C: \ Program Files \ Epic Games \ UE_4.25 \ Engine \ Config \ BaseEngine.ini)
2) Find the line about Remote Session:
([RemoteSession]
+ ChannelRedirects = (OldName = FRemoteSessionFrameBufferChannel, NewName = FRemoteSessionFrameBufferChannel_DEPRECATED))
should work:
([RemoteSession]
"+ ChannelRedirects = (OldName = FRemoteSessionFrameBufferChannel, NewName = FRemoteSessionFrameBufferChannel_DEPRECATED)"
Just delete it or put it in quotes starting with "+". Vaul Remote Session Plugin (along with Virtual Camera) - Works on 4.25.4!
I set up everything like your video, but when i move my iphone or ipad sideways it does not turn. I can only use the controllers to go forward, back, up and down but cant look left right or any of the virtual movement. Any ideas? Im on iphone 6 and ipad air 2. Thx
not sure i havent experienced that happening
Can I use the virtual camera for composites as well? So the camera moves in realtime green screen shots from the ipad
Maybe im not sure. You'd have to be able to get a video signal to your computer from your device first.
