My experience with elf decks is usually one of the following: a) I dump my hand onto the board. Someone plays a sweeper. I'm stuck with a Shamanic Reclamation in my hand and no mana, because I missed land drops. (Not fun) b) I have this turn, where I play solitaire, trying to find a way to win the game, because of a janky infinite mana and draw engine, while everyone else waits for their death. (Not fun) I was questioning myself for a long time: Are elves just not fun to play in edh? My current build is Lathril with a +1/+1 counter subscheme, where I avoid combo cards like Wirewood Symbiote and play more like a midrange deck with cards like Black Market Connections. Turn 2 Court of Garenbrig feels very strong, transforming your little 1/1 dork into a 5/5 threat on turn 3 and introduces the monarchy to the game, which is always fun. I also have to mention, that Heroic Intervention literaly does nothing in my meta. So many sweepers don't destroy creatures.
I have an ElF Ball that is true Elf Ball. Only 20 lands including Gaea's Cradle and Wirewood lodge. The rest are forests. I only run the following non elf creatures: Seedborn Muse, Wirewood Symbiote, Skyshroud Poacher, and Nyxbloom Ancient. All of my utility is done by the elves themselves and not by instants, or sorceries except for Elven Ambush, Galadhrim Ambush, Windswift Slice, and Elvish Promenade. I run Emerald medallion, and Urza's Incubator as my only Artifacts. The only enchantments I run are Elvish Guidance, Doubling Season, and Concordant Crossroads. Everything else is an elf. I can play most of my deck by turn 4 at best, but regularly by turn 5. The mana dorks give me all the mana I need and Eladamri keeps the engine going. Beast whisperer is the best card in the deck. Finishers are Eruri, my new favorite Galadhrim Brigade, also Arwen, Weaver of Hope combined with either Elven Ambush or Elvish Promenade. Some fun interactions are with Seedborn muse and Yeva out I can go off on other peoples turns, and with Gilt-Leaf Archdruid I get to steal everyone else's lands. It isn't a competitive deck because of the lack of removal and lack of protection, but it can be very fast and a lot of fun.
I like Grand Warlord Radha as a unusual Commander for elf tribal. Like you said, red is not the most "friendly" color for a elf tribal, but I think that Radha is more on theme than Raggadragga is.
Personally, I've had amazing results (1 win, 2 second places) at edh tournaments at my lgs with 27 lands and 20 or so dorks in Lathril, playing an optimized mana base with no basic swamps
@@alphaomega2898 as a side note, these events are tribal tournament, where decks must consist mainly of a creature tribe of your choice, so that explains the choice of removals. Should you take part in a regular event, you should swap them for cards like crippling fear or toxic deluge.
for the general makeup of the deck, how many cards would be needed (or which section it would be in) that synergizes with the commander? ex: lathril probably needs equipment/auras that buff attack, and Nath of the Guilt-leaf needs discard effects to make full use of the commanders.
Great video. I am subscribing right now! Could you share the list of cards you recommend for every section, it would help me to improve my Galadriel Light Of Valinor's deck. Thanks
@@Robert-vk7je use that one myself, recently threw out the door in favor of a coat of arms. But.. I miss the doors' ability to retain the counters after wipes.

I love the masterclass series! I’d love to see more like this. Maybe artifact commanders? 🥹🙏🏾

Love the sound of this. I just got on concordant crossroads as well!

This was very helpful! Thank you!❤

Personally I use lathril as finisher

Lol I'm actually trying to do the same, and found this video while researching
good guide. thank you
good intro comentaries about the elves, I'm in the way of making a commander elf deck.

missed this: Door of Destiny but other than that, no notes.
Door is usually too slow. At least in my meta.
Eldrazi Monument does more for me.

I to run Grand Warlord Radha fast and fun, people say its very powerful
I'm doing a "Legolas, Counter of Kills" Deck, using Goad-style effects and disincentivizing effects for attacking my Elven kingdom, then turn sideways
