    This made me feel a lot better about my shampoo! I got some pH strips today, and it was a 6! We unfortunately have hard water, so it’s higher, and I feel like that’s what’s contributing to my dry hair. 🥺

    I started trying out shampoo bars instead of conventional shampoo in my efforts to be more ecofriendly and support small businesses. I have hard water so it was really challenging to find a shampoo bar that didn't leave a waxy residue immediately upon rinsing. I thought I found a good one until it started giving me flaky scalp. I then found out it was possibly because of the PH imbalance so I started using acv spritz in my hair and although it helps a lot, my hair has ultimately become dry & brittle like a broom. I think I am giving up on shampoo bars. This video confirmed something I subtly worried about. I was worried the repeated unbalancing with the shampoo and and then balancing with acv was too much to be doing regularly especially on fine hair like mine, and less washing helped somewhat but not enough. I also had a lot of fallout, the acv routine was a pain it wouldn't rinse out very easily so Id waste water and sometimes it would leave a a slight smell in my hair and bathroom. I poured my heart out here but I am hoping this comes across someone thinking of using shampoo bars and is trying to figure this eco friendly shampoo thing out like me. Everyone's different of course, just sharing my story. So in efforts to not give up on trying out eco friendly products I am now gonna try soap-nut shampoo off amazon this is supposedly ph balanced and the soap nuts supposedly naturally bond well with hard water so we shall see.

    • @ChromaCrowns
      @ChromaCrowns  3 года назад +1

      Wow thank you so much for sharing your experience! I have had that same experience with shampoo bars leaving my hair feeling very coated. After the acv I like to do a Conditioner or mask to hydrate the hair and counteract that little smell that gets left behind. Try looking into Davines as they are eco friendly with their packaging and are great products. Same with ouai. They use eco friendly packaging and even sell refill bags to reduce waste. Good luck with your journey and please let me know what you find! :)

    Hey! Thank you for this video, it is very useful.
    Before, I used to wash my hair with Marseille soap. It used to dry a little, but the hair would easily bounce back to normal, especially if I oiled it. The only real issue was the occasional remaining soap residues and the fact that it did not help with dandruff at all.
    During high school, I decided to try shampoo out of curiosity - and for conformism's sake. However, I never managed to find a good shampoo in three years. I would often change brands, but most of the time, my scalp would feel itchy or even burn a little whenever I applied the shampoo. Then, my hair would grow greasy or thinner. The conditioners never worked in the long run either.
    Therefore, I have recently decided to switch back to the old ways. Still, I want to do things properly and improve the quality of my hair, which leads me to my typing this awfully long comment - I apologize in advance - asking for your advice.
    So, here I come:
    1) Should I even be using Marseille soap, or was I messing my hair up from the start? Should really give up on shampoo?
    2) To avoid Marseille soap build-ups and balance my hair's pH, I plan on using ACV. Is it true that ACV brings out red highlights?
    3) Since having the pH of the hair swing could cause damage, would ACV alone work to wash it, if correctly dosed?
    4) To moisturize my hair, I use a mix of olive oil and lavender oil. Is it okay? Would you recommend any other oils or moisturizers for very long straight dark brown hair that easily grease?
    5) Is henna really less damaging for hair dying? (I know, that one came out of nowhere...)
    If you have read through this, thank you. I am sorry, it was long, my English must be incorrect and I sound like a ranting grandma - mostly because I have taken my hair routine after my parents and grandmother, so I am very clueless about hair products.
    Have a nice day!

      hi! thank you so much for watching. I hadn't heard of marseille soap before but after doing some research it looks like it has a high ph of 9.5 which can cause the hair to dry out. ill do my best to answer your questions :)
      1. i think regular shampoo and conditioner is going to be a great place to start for you to get your hair and scalp feeling better. i really like redken color extend magnetics shampoo and conditioner. once every two weeks i use the redken detox clarifying shampoo to remove buildup from my scalp from styling products and it works wonders. just make sure to follow with a deep conditioner, like olaplex #8.
      2. it can lighten hair if left in for too long, or if you do it too often. only do the acv treatment once every couple weeks and leave in for just a few minutes.
      3. yes, some people have done a no-shampoo regimen to just cleanse with acv. it can be a process to get your hair used to it but alot of people swear by it. try it out!
      4. olive oil has such a big molecule size that it cant penetrate the hair cuticle so it can just leave it feeling greasy. i love the olaplex #8 moisture mask.
      5. and henna does tend to be marketed as being more "natural" but it can be a nightmare to remove. try finding a salon that does Redken Shades EQ glosses. it is an acidic color that leave your hair feeling smoother and healthier than before.
      hope all of this helped!

      @@ChromaCrowns Hey! Thank you for taking the time to reply.
      Since last time, I've actually tested new stuff! I tried the ACV-only regimen, a glycerin soap bar, and a new shampoo.
      I tested the ACV for a month. It worked well enough and I had some fun using pH paper to bring the pH level up. I am not so fond of the smell, but at least it disappears as soon as it's rinsed away. I think it did lighten my hair a little but it might just be the sun. The issue is, as you said, I should not use it too often while I prefer to wash my hair at least twice a week.
      The glycerin bar was the one I preferred. I haven't got the opportunity to test Marseille soap bars again for comparison, but I can tell it doesn't dry my hair as much as I recall Marseille soap did. I haven't checked, but I suppose it was closer to the "hair's happy place".
      After some research, I decided to give shampoo another chance. The one I tried was sulfate-free, pH-balanced, and contained monoi. My scalp seems to have gotten used to it by now. I might stick to it for a while longer.
      Thank you for recommending all these products I didn't know. I'll try them out next. I am particularly curious about the brand you recommended for the moisturizer. And I can't wait to get my hair dyed!

    I am desperately searching for some answers. My hair has become so greasy. Not a little but to the point that every single time I wash it, it instantly is greasy underneath and dries very greasy. I can't get it clean. I've tried every shampoo, don't condition, only wash twice a week, rinse very thorough, etc. What's odd is when I go in to have my hair colored at the salon it is the only time my hair comes out clean. She does use a ph balancing shampoo, but I brought home a sample and I am back to the same greasiness. The shampoo is ClarpHx and they also do a clarifying mask of this same brand. The more I am reading about ph, could this be the issue? My scalp is also a little itchy and flaky even though it's so greasy. Any ideas??? I can't figure this out and it's so frustrating. Thank you!!!!!

    • @ChromaCrowns
      @ChromaCrowns  3 года назад

      i hear you! I get so greasy also. Could be a combination of how well the stylist is scrubbing your scalp and the products being used. color is also alkaline so that will open up the strands of hair and make it feel really clean afterwards. i really like redkens detox shampoo and use once a week to really break up the oils and clean the hair and scalp. also, only apply conditioner through the ends of the hair and avoid the scalp.you can also try a dry shampoo to absorb any oils between shampoos because the longer you go without washing your scalp will not be as greasy. hope that info helped!

Other detox shampoos still left my hair greasy underneath right after showering. This issue developed in the last year and I can't figure it out. Unless I used the detox shampoo for every washing I couldn't get it clean. I know it's not good to do that either.
