Great job on the video. Hoping you can shed some light on something. I've tried adderall twice and although I feel focused, it makes me so anxious. I do suffer from anxiety. I've stopped taking it because of this. Do you know if there is a version that eliminates this feeling?

*Assuming this video was for inattentive*
I would say that short term memory issues and difficulty with organisation would make these jobs you recommend not perfect for someone with ADHD. I was a teacher for 10 years which was perfect for ADHD due to millions of short term deadlines and very high pressure every day. I needed to put a ton of strategies into place to do the job so I wouldn't recommend it unless you're prepared. IMO the perfect job would be some kind of consulting job where you are asked for your advice/input on something which involves problem solving and being creative, but you're always being asked about things which are an emergency/last minute and you're needing to help get a company out of a hole. That's where you would literally be a superhero and due to the fact it's an emergency and potentially a lost cause of someone else's doing you would be guilt-free because someone else would've created the mess.

I was diagnosed with ADHD when I was in 3rd grade. I struggled with learning academics. However, what I lack in those I had no problem with the creative side. I am good in writing, painting, singing and even dancing. I am now 25 yrs old but I just realized recently what I've always wanted to become. I am currently pursuing a degree in arts majoring in communication arts. I think it was revealed to me a long time ago that communication is actually my gift and I just simply ignored it and took other paths where I failed. Film had always been a part of my life that is why I want to pursue career in Public Relations for the entertainment industry.

While it differs from person to person its finding Multiple ways to "motivate" yourself as someone with ADHD. I have it also, and very dark humor that made me laugh when I realized I have -0- motivation and for a long time could not figure out why. It would be funny to encounter Any situation where someone is trying to figure out my "motivation" and Plain fact being I don't have one. At the same time Not having a Completely Selfish agenda could be an advantage I guess?

I worked in journalism for a short time and it was too stressful. There was the huge push to try and beat your competitors to be the first story published so you get the most views. The demand to get news out as quickly as possible was too draining. I think if I were a journalist before the age of the internet, or just working on interest pieces instead of breaking news, it would have been a better career. Adhders should be -
      Special educator
      Personal trainer
      Private Tutor/grp tutor
      Edtech Tutor
      Mentor
Education Consultants or counsellors or guiders

I’ve thought about journalism, I do photography and I’m an auto enthusiast, I have failed school my entire life and never finished high-school because of the constant changing ways, I was born in 96 and every year of school after 4th grade was “here is how I know, but here is how they want us to do it now” anyways I’ve always been very afraid of finding a job because my attention is very hard, I know how to work on cars a little bit but while I’m changing my oil or suspension I’ll stop and look at my phone instead of focusing on finishing up right away, and photography I love because it’s simple, I shoot what I see is beauty, the only time I’m calm and patient is when I’m taking photos of car, models, landscapes, anything, but I’ve never held a real job, I used to pick up car parts for family shop, and that wasn’t legit pay check, I worked with my uncle digging trenches for pool plumbing witch was simple enough for my terms, but he let me go because I showed up late all the time considering I was still going out every night to car meets and stuff like that, having to wake up at 5am is very difficult even today, I’m afraid that I can’t concentrate when they’re training me and I’ll forget and have to keep asking for help, so I’ve been trying my best for 8 years of photography self taught, I try my best to have my photos noticed and really hope to one day photograph people in japan for companies, I’ve thought of journalism because you get to travel and take photos and listen to stories of people and I am great at talking with people about things, the only thing about that is, depending on the type of journal I’m doing might catch up to me emotionally. Or I feel like I’d write too much like I am now, that was also my problem in school, over explaining things when writing short stories lol but if you read this thank you,

I’m a hairstylist with newly diagnosed adhd (I’m 30 years old) & the time blindness/time management has really been effecting me the past few years...I guess I should add that I’m also in recovery and have been for 5 years now (my drug of choice was opiates and I have chronic pain) & suffered from my addiction from age 12-25 but when I got sober was when a lot of my symptoms really came to the forefront. I can only assume that because while in active addiction no matter what it’s to can flood the brain with dopamine (which is just one of the reasons why so many ppl with adhd have problems with addiction. I was very much a “functioning addict” that is until I was no longer functioning lbs ...no one knew how bad I had gotten and I covered it up well but when I finally got sober I had to deal with a lot of things I covered up through my life as well (emotions, mental illness, trauma etc.) but the moment I got off of opiates the time blindness started to effect my work. For instance I would be late more often, more like everyday lbs or a men’s fade that typically took me 30 mins to do was now taking me TWO HOURS to cut & that’s not “good for business” and at the time I didn’t even know I had adhd or why this was happening and time blindness is hard to accept let alone explain to someone who doesn’t experience it or realize just how real it is and how much it can effect a person (same with addiction) so I lost my job of 6 years because I was cutting to slow...I’ve been able to keep employment because I am very natural at my job and also have some amazing and loyal clients but I would really love to hear how some of you get through work and housework and life in general with time blindness. It along with my mental illness and physical chronic pain have really been breaking me down lately...I’m open to any tips or words of encouragement or advice. Thanks in advanced ❤️

You are spot on! I was an emergency nurse but before that I was a hairstylist! Now I own my own business (med spa) which is one of your listed suggestion “ be your own boss” and yes I was so super hyper focused and loved it so much that unfortunately I was also going to grad school for family nurse practitioner that my grades began to suffer and I had to take a break with school to realign my thoughts and figure out how I’m going to do both until I graduate. This led me to your channel because now as an ADHDer I’m learning that I may need treatment to help me finish school. Why am I going to school and starting a business people may ask… it’s because ADHDers I learned take risks and are super spontaneous! Agh… I think if I would have really thought it through logically, I would have waited to start my business when I graduated, but here we are… I can’t quit now.
Thank you for sharing your stories… I think to myself, hum..maybe I should start a RUclips channel and share my stories as well and maybe take note of the progress/ regress and learn and help others. Hum..we will see lol Why not add one more thing to the mix.lol
Btw.. I have been prescribed Adderall and I am scared to take it but I will watch more of your videos as well as others and hopefully I’ll get the courage to be ok with treatment. The Lord knows I need help!

@@minislonkers8189 Well....no. There could be another more plausible reason: I could just be an introvert. Introverts are usually not very social individuals as they prefer solitude. Some people tend to minimize introversion and act like it doesn't exist or can be "cured". With that being said, don't be quick to call a some with ADHD or a person who isn't very social as having possible sociopathy. Having ADHD *DOES NOT* equal some sort of sociopathy. It requires me to shop in the store for people's orders everyday. It's great because every order is different and I get to walk around the whole store, finding different items. It's especially great for my adhd when we're on a time crunch because I go into hyper focus and move as fast as I can to get all the orders ready. Sometimes I over work myself, I try not to do that but it's a lot of fun most of the time.

I've done several of these jobs except a few: journalism, receptionist at a hair salon, actor (not as a job but I did it in high school and did a year of it in college). I now am a freelancer but there are some things that as a business should be routine. So that's difficult.
Add to this list event planner as well. Like throwing parties.
I do feel that since I didn't know myself and was recently diagnosed, I didn't really know how to play to my strengths.
My biggest challenge right now is choosing and being interested in all the things and feeling like I MUST experience things to know for sure if Iike them or not.
Reading and writing as a journalist DOES help quench that thirst for experience, but sometimes it's not enough!

Oooh ok I’m currently going for massage therapy and I absolutely love it!!! For multiple reasons
    1. It’s flexible so I can make my schedule (if I’m working for myself) 2. I’m on the active side of the spectrum so I’m constantly moving which is great 3. Each person is different and personalizing a massage and figuring out what techniques to use helps you focus and get things done.
Only down side is I can hyper focus and lose track of time. So I have to make sure I have a clock in the room or a watch so I’m not working over the planned time for my client.

Multitask job! Yeah! I spend all my school time drawing while teachers were speaking, I was doing pretty good until a prof randomly confiscated my drawings, I started to cry (cuz, yeah, super emotional and no prof has never done that to me, it was pretty much a shock) couldn't concentrate for the rest of the class.
Also realised later in my life That I couldn't draw anymore until I set up an environment that mimics a prof talking (listening to podcast and other things, well as long as I was doing two things at the same time)

When you draw you are using your body to move. It literally is connected to your kinetic learning part of your brain. I take notes to help me focus in school and wiggle my foot profusely to get my ADHD energy out. I also move a ton in my seat and sit near the front of the class.

You don't know what you're talking about. ADHD is a spectrum disorder. You have time blindness and "DOING WELL UNDER PRESSURE". But for me, IT'S THE OPPOSITE. I have no organisation problems, but a Dopamine deficiency that causes every small task to seem like climbing a mountain, COMBINED with chronic anxiety -- your brain is overwhelmed by negative thought of failure (& social rejection) until it's paralysed. Acting under pressure or with uncertainty is what my types struggle the most.

Currently working as a house cleaner. Was employed with a cleaning company, but didn't see eye to eye with the manager. Enjoyed the customers and the variety of one time cleanings and driving out to different homes each day, paired with the structure of familar homes of repeat customers and the work flow of the work orders. Didn't care for getting squeezed to work faster and sacrifice quality on such low pay, though. Now I do it myself, small scale, completely on my own and enjoy not having a manager and being able to set my own pace and schedule.
Also work as a substitute Para at the local school district part time. Both jobs allow me to create my own schedule, and I can use one to make up for a lull in the other.
Previously I worked full time as a teacher's aide in a pre-k classroom. I found I really enjoy working with kids and seeing how they see the world. It was also a great opportunity to show them its ok to be silly, weird, and different, as I didn't really "match" most of the staff. After the pre-k job, I suspected ADHD, got diagnosed a couple years back, and now try to really lean into connecting with kids the way I would've wanted to be connected with as a kid.

Journalism, Entertainment/Media, and Music are dream jobs I've always wanted, but realistically they are more so hobby/passionate directions and not something you can just pursue without some other sort of income. Therefore, I decided to go to school in IT and am working a job in that field now. A year after graduation, I finally found a place that works with me and the way I learn, but it's always been a huge challenge for me to obtain any new materials I am unfamiliar with. School went from hands on to school at home halfway threw due to COVID which has been a huge factor in obtaining my degree. In order for me to learn anything new, I have to do the tasks myself over and over with notes/pictures until I no longer needs those to assist me. I'm still going to pursue those passions on the side bc that's where my heart has always been.

Ted James I tried that but it’s not easy keeping them together especially if you have whole class of yourself. I hated my job of been a kindergarten teacher but everyone said I was good at it🤷🏾‍♀️🤷🏾‍♀️🤷🏾‍♀️😬

The ideal job is a job without emphasis on details, do one thing at a time, and no need to count money or give changes. Of course we can do all the above but not fast.

Bored where I am at present which is the reason for the move

Depends on the individual with adhd the ideal for me would be something in the creative arts like singing dancing or acting or all three

I think It’s individual. I study journalism and it’s not for me. I’m barely passing.I was diagnosed with ADHD, dyslexia and dysgraphia. I think it’s better to study/ do job you like because it’s much easier to focus on it. It’s really hard for me to focus on things I don’t care about.

Bicycle Mechanic. i can be left alone or go grap a coworker for help, I hyper focus on the smallest of details to ensure the bike it 100%. I use my hands and get to sit, stand, move around, the job changes from bike to bike on what I get to do just a little bit, but it still is all the same tasks I know how to do. Then when i finsih the job i get to test ride the bike which is fun so other than it doesnt pay a lot, I love it and it seems to work well for me and my adhd

    35. ADHD, OCD, etc. and I can’t even get thru school to even get anywhere. Data entry, admin, corporate world and been dying inside for SIX years after a ton of other jobs I left. Im good at typing all day and always finish tasks thanks to OCD part but cant focus enough to learn anything else here. So bored & yeah... Just dying every day inside and feel like im wasting my life because of it. I just wanna go play outside or drive for miles and do what I want when I want. Wish I could be a travel writer but dime a dozen now and Momlife wont allow for it.

What about blogging about being a mom? There are a few of them out there but it would be a very cool creative outlet, especially if you talk about being a mom with ADHD and OCD and coping with it :) so when my current job wasn't fulfilling enough for me and I felt like my creative side wasn't being satisfied I decided to create this RUclips channel :) and that's how all this started lol

@@MewithADHD I have a blog and the thing about it is only wanting to write when you write, so the routine is daunting has been my experience...however now that I've come back home to publishing on my own, I won't stop because it is a very needed and fulfilling outlet.
