I had a 996, everyone needs to have had a Ducati, loved it but my body didn’t 👴🏻! I was afraid to go too far, just in case I couldn’t get home . But………….sold it for more than I paid for it 🙂 Short duration, smooth local routes should be savoured and enjoyed. Best of luck 👌🏻
For your trip, adjust the clip on's for comfort they are set for a old school riding position, also a good battery the big twin takes some cranking over. a Motorbat 20.5 amp battery is a good choice in my opinion. Amazing bike ! congrats
Sam,, be mindful the rear shock is 25 years old and its most lightly never been serviced and she's a big twin, go easy especially on cold tires, the white lines on the road can get greasy also, I would get the forks and rear shock serviced and sprung for you weight, if they haven't been done.
The rear shocks brand new and suspension was serviced in 2022 so thankfully much better haha! I'd be very worried otherwise! Definitely going to get it set up properly though!
I have lusted for one of these and a FOGGIE REP as well. My last bike was a 1200 SUZUKI BANDIT MAROON AND GOLD IN COLOUR WITH A FEW BITS AND PIECES TO MAKE IT MY BIKE . YUM YUM DUCATI'S ROCK and your 916 is a nice example of design excellence.
A few years ago I picked up a 2003 Aprilia RSV Mille with only 1100 miles (yes 1100 miles lol) & was #22 off the production line on the Vin number, sadly sold it after 20k+ miles to buy a 2003 Yamaha R1 haha
Nice! Had so many of these over the years I could build one with my eyes shut. Best ones I had were 996sps and sigma built 853s ( big bore 748.) Once set up the harder you push through a corner the better they feel. I've ridden them hard on sunday mornings, commuted on em and tracked em. Word of advice: keep fit, plenty of press ups and learn to grip the tank with your thighs to free wrists up for a bit when not flat out on it. Maintain it and look after it and it will be reliable, despite what the dickheads out there say. 👍
Your username cracks me up 😂😂 Thank you pal! Yeah I think it needs a set up on the suspenders and just regular use and maintenance. I've cleaned it every time I've ridden it so far so maybe I'll hold off doing that if I want some paint left 😂
Nice bike. I can't ride sport bikes anymore. I had a bad wreck when I was 18. If I just sit on one now, I quiver like a dog shitting tacks. It's a win that my 1290 doesn't illicit the same response.
I grew up without rider aids on bikes, so it allways makes me chuckle to hear how people talk about them. Funnily enough i thought to myself as i watched your video that bike was the bigger long lost brother to my much cheaper smaller brother ( i say cheaper, £4,000!) To me back then was alot,it still is to me,feel free to disagree ) i had the cagivia mito evo in red and white( white seat hump )..and i remember reading it shared the parts with the ducati, fuel cap, mirrors ,clocks,, and being young at the time i thought..nahhh,, and now years later i remember seeing the cagivia elephant on the fuel filler, ⛽️ how ironic,, i couldn't afford a ducati, and i ended up falling in love with a aprilia rsv1000 first generation Funnily enough, a over looked bike ironically because of the ducati, a aprilia is massively underrated bike, I'm still learning about it now,, its not cheap to run and its bloody frustrating sometimes but thats some bikes, but crack the throttle open and watch it go like a scolded cat into triple figures in no time, not bad for a 20 plus year old bike, and it doesn't handle bad either.. modern bikes are probably faster, but some lack character.
Haha! Every one of my bikes has at least had ABS, and the KTM I ride daily has slip control, wheelie control, heated seats and all sorts, so this is a strange one for me haha The Aprilia RSV gen 2 is the bike which pushed me back into looking for one! Absolutely brilliant bit of kit. There's a video on it a few weeks back on the channel. A friend of mine let me ride it which ignited the flame again!
@SamVBikes yeah I completely get the technology in bikes for you and the younger generation growing up with it, I'm glad to say to this day my tracton control will allways be my right wrist linked to my arse stopping at my head, plus personally I learnt about gearing ⚙️, momentum by starting on small 2 strokes with hardly any torque and light weight possibly lighter then 4 strokes of the same size ( but don't quote me) and I'm so glad I did, it taught me alot, alot about mechanics, about mechanical sympathy, what gear to be in,what revs to be at,, even the basics of road positioning and how to read the roads and read what people are doing on the roads, even now I wouldn't generally wear tinted visors, because personally I like to make eye contact so you are being acknowledged by them, you can see the vehicles wheels, look where they are moving, ( pointing 👉 ). Let's you know where they are going before they start moving, I find riding like a art,, its not just jump on and rag it, ( nice to do that to mind)🤣
Lovely Italian masterpiece… Personally I reckon your mates should help pay for it! After all it’s their fault 😄. Hope you get lots of miles of hassle free fun mate…
Nice one Sam, I was thinking Monster, so close but no cigar! What a beauty the 916 is 😀👍 Let me know when you're ready to get the paint done, if you like? I work for an automotive paint supplier and a customer and mate specializes in doing bikes. To give you an idea, he used to do the FS3 BSB team bikes and does a lot of specialist bikes in collections, including Foggy's 916, many moto GP bikes, the last one I know of was Casey Stoner's 2008 ish GP bike! He doesn't advertise but I can introduce you 👍

@@SamVBikes he's done loads of fancy stuff, including his own bikes. He doesn't ride anymore though but I loved his s1000r paint job best. He also recreated a gpz900 top gun replica down to the finest detail, that was sweet 👍
Sounds like he's a real dab hand at it! Would love to have the patience and skill for paintwork! Especially the hand painted stuff. Could watch someone paint pinstripes for hours
Great choice Sam, congratulations. My garage queen is a 2008 1098R, yes it’s special but last of the non-electronic Ducatis. Occasionally I’m like a dog with 2 dicks 🥰
Likely a precaution rather than a need. It had been off the road for 10 years so I wouldn't want to run a bike on 10 year old belts and seals which hadn't been used or moved
@@SamVBikes understood.my previous bike was also 29 years old with 4800 miles on it. Yamaha Virago 1100. Now on a new Trident. Just used your discount voucher for Tatantos Elite. So thankyou.
I fell for the 916 watching Foggy dominate the world Superbikes championship in the 90s, so slightly envious.
Haha yeah! If only Foggy reps weren't 40k 😂

Fucking gorgeous, great choice! Who cares what it cost, it's about how it makes you feel ❤ I have a 996R, my 2nd one, and I LOVE it.
Haha that's exactly it! 💪🏼💪🏼
Before electronics got in the way!
Love it!
Thank you! Haha yeah or before electronics were reliable 😂
Nice to see a beautiful bike back on the road. Enjoy Sir

Thank you! Just had a Motobatt turn up today so that's a good start! No pun intended haha
I'm looking forward to all of your 916 videos 👍
Cheers pal!
I sold my 996 a couple of years ago, really miss it. It’s the only bike I have ridden that feels like a race bike out of the box. Amazing bike.
They definitely do don't they! So dialled and also feel really special riding it
Proper Bike. My first bike with ABS and TC was my 1290 SAS, just get used to trail braking you will be fine 😁
Haha yeah it's just getting used to the bike more about more and remembering uou don't have a safety net 😂
Put some wider (longer) bars on it… will help with comfort and handling 👍
That sounds awesome
Most beautiful Ducati ever made! I'm jealous!
She's a beaut isn't she 😍
Always liked the 916. Iv avoided that dealer a long while back. Mainly due to their pricing.
Yeah don't blame you. Thankfully this wasn't priced like most of their bikes but it was still a bit more than I'd have wanted
It's a beauty. Well played you barstuard. Notice im not jealous in the slightest. ✊😎.Si.

i have an mv agusta f4 mono. always thought the 916 just had the edge on the mv as the best looking superbike of all time. lovely bike
Love the MVs!! Just look incredible! Anything like these are beaut
An absolute stunner ❤
Love it mate 😍
Very nice....needs a rear hugger to protect that shock!
Haha yes I've been looking at some already!
Omg Sam what a animal of a bike u just bought. God it's epic Sam and sounds amazing. Best of luck with it Sam I want 1 😂
Thank you!! It's such a beast of a bike. Love it! And feel undeservedly cool riding it ha

Chuffed for you buddy. Enjoy 👍

It’s not doing much to slow you down… but a bike like that should definitely be ridden.
Haha yeah I thought it would but apparently not
So jealous!! 🤣Black wheels look mint!
