    I really like the tip of racing for practice. Usually what happens to me is I practice all week and maybe race only once. Sometimes I don’t even race because I run out of time at the end of the week. Treating the race as practice I think will let me have more fun racing instead of just doing solo practice forever.

      I was stuck doing the same thing, at the end of the day we just need to remind ourselves why we do it.

      Get out on the racetrack in race conditions. It's a Sim, you can race till you get bored

    The last point sums the entirety of iRacing and simracing in general: it's meant to be FUN. That's what it is all about :)

    Ive also noticed that there are some gimmicks regarding tire warmup during Qualy that people think will help them but in fact the benefits are almost non existent. Its much easier to focus on adapting to the car in the outlap. Ive also covered qualy from a different pov in one of my videos and I agree with most of the things you said here especially treating first races of the week as practices. Keep it up Dori_n

    Very interesting point about treating the race as practice. I actually spend so much time practicing trying to get as close as I can to the top runners, so I can have a good shot at the proper race.

    Perfect very helpful advise for any of us that dont have the time to dive in setups and get the most fun and the most learning the sim. I found just dealing with other racers and starting from the back alot of the time helped improve so much in pace and race craft and is way more enjoyable then starting top 5 if done right and not end up in unlucky situations.

      I think that if you get more races under your belt you'll be more comfortable starting in the middle/front. But getting there can be painful at times 😅

    Love it. Great mindset to treat some races as practice, thanks for quali setup tips too. Like a newbie idiot I’ve been changing nothing for quali, not even reduced fuel! Cheers.

      @DoriN12  2 года назад +1

      Happy to help, if you're doing a fixed series then reducing fuel isn't a factor, but in an open setup series it's a total game changer.

    Nice, how did i overlook those setup tips! Thanks, will definitely check that out.
    Regarding the practice/qual/race stuff, yes, have to admit that I have recently started to give up on practicing endlessly, but would rather jump in a race as soon as I am somewhere near the middle of my SoF in terms of pace and then take it from there. Also gave up on the back of the grid or pit starts as I then either have to chase less skilled but too ambitious backmarkers or frustrated and aggresive L1 spinners. Would also use the 10-15min pre-race to practice my cold lap quali and race starts, which are basically the most significant part of the race in iRacing. And dont forget practicing starts and where to brake for T1 if you end up in the front of the pack

  • @RudiTurbo

    Not in a negative way, but I kind of disagree with the race being a better way to find pace. Maybe for a learning driver, following other drivers helps in a way. But for ultimate pace, You need to get close to the limits and in a race You need to get through a number of laps, which means You will always leave a safety margin while cornering. However to find those limits, You need to take risks and You can do that in practice, where You loose nothing by spinning, just reset and go again. So for that ultimate pace of finding new limits of the car and Yourself, I think You need to go over the limit sometimes, to find it, so in that sense, practice is a better way to improve the limits of Your ultimate pace.
    I think it is actually one of the limiting factors for myself, that I only do practice as long as I get a decent enough lap and then only do races from that point on.
    Great videos though, keep up the good work, just a different viewpoint here from another 5k driver :)

    • @DoriN12
      @DoriN12  2 года назад +1

      I don't see this as negative at all, it seems like you've put some thought into it.
      The way I see it is that I picked up a lot of things by trying (and failing) to follow the Sven Haase's of the world, when the difference between us in the corners is massive, I know I have a lot of time to find there, and I then I know what to look for in practice.
      In the first episode of this series, I've dedicated a whole chapter about how important it is to test the limits, so I totally agree with you. This video is kind of a follow up to that I guess 😅
      It's impossible not to practice a lot in advance now at days (especially if you're human), even in lower splits, people are just committed across the board.
      Good stuff though, always refreshing to hear people's pov on things.

      When you racing afainst people who is faster, you can see where you loosing time, and where you can go faster and more agressive etc. , and in solo practice it takes a lot more time to find it out

    Thank you Dori_n. I really enjoy and learn from your videos. Keep them coming.
    I have a suggestion.
    When I first downloaded and installed iRacing I was overwhelmed.
    Even now the menu confusises me, still. The - and = where the check mark is in reference to if the race counts towards our licenses.
    Also how to activate the Sideview mirrors.

    • @yannis4259
      @yannis4259 2 года назад

      About the sideview mirrors: there's a setting in graphic settings. It's called something like "max rear view mirrors" or something (you'll have to enable the advanced graphic settings).

    • @-Ola-.
      @-Ola-. 2 года назад +1

      When in pits hit esc, options, graphics, set mirrors to 2 and stay away from high quality mirrors.. 3 mirrors if you want the inside mirror working, but remember mirrors costs fps.

      One of the episodes will be dedicated to the UI for sure. Regarding the mirrors, these nice gentlemen gave you some great advice.

    Here's the problem with qualifying when your a mid pack racer. You qualify 15th in a field of 25. Your pretty slow as far as pace and all the heroes that didnt qualify are behind you. They either push you off the track or just crash into you. Safety rating goes down. You start in the rear with all slower cars and the hotshots ahead of you are weaving like crazy as if from 15th they're winning the race, cause a horrible crash, cars go spinning ,you have nowhere to go, safety rating goes. You start at the back to be safe, you actually make to end of race in 14th place. Safety rating crawls up alittle but you Irating plummets. Its a great system for a Div 1 racer in top split because everyone actually knows what theyre doing. For the slower driver where his talent gets better but not fast enough, your basicially stuck in the higher divisions, bottom split, with a good license and going nowhere. Bad system for the little guys.

    • @superstar5042
      @superstar5042 2 года назад

      Dont look too much to your safety rating, try to win the race, get your irating higher and you would face people who knows how to race clean. And then your safety rating would go up

    • @DoriN12
      @DoriN12  2 года назад

      @Vito Augello I understand where you're coming from, there was a good amount of time where I was in "ELO" hell, where I felt like the people around me are preventing me from progressing through the ranks. In retrospect, I think what helped me was taking responsibility for other people's mistakes.
      What I mean by that is that learning how to avoid "last to first" heroes and people who fight me for 10th place like there's a RedBull F1 seat waiting on the other side, has improved my performance dramatically. Anytime someone touches me, I inspect it from a million angles, and try to find a way for me to avoid that scenario next time. Took a couple of good years, but I got enough of it to make it out alive now at days, mostly... 😅
      I also think it's hard to survive in top split, especially once the sof becomes very high, the aggression is quite insane at times, and you often have to actively avoid battles just to survive. Now at days I seek those battles out because I have the experience, I used to be terrified of having everybody around me just sending it everywhere, to a point where I would have rather stuck to 2nd/3rd split.
      So my point here is that no matter what kind of drivers are around you, there's gonna be some difficulty to avoid accidents, and embracing that is one of, if not the most important part of racing.
