This was a good video to watch. I've built a few Guillow's kits over the years. I'll have to get another one to build for an R/C conversion. In this case, the Pinion gear is the driving gear that is mounted on the motor shaft. The Spur gear is used for RPM reduction and is mounted on the propeller shaft that is being driven by the pinion gear.
Great build sir. I recently built the same model from plans I had from years ago. I incorporated sliced ribs with a sheet spar and warren trusses. Covered it with pink tissue from last year’s Christmas gift. Fabricated balsa cowl w/adjustable thrust line. Thanks for posting
I am still in the process of building a Guillows Cessna 150 . I built tail pieces like your 170 so it will look more like a Bird dog . You can save a lot of weight making laminated frames , and they are much stronger than the pieced together stuff . As for the stalls ... that's realistic man.
That is interesting that the prop has a left-hand pitch (reverse from typical props). Overall the build looks really nice!

Doyle great build, should have enough go for nice scale flying, good luck, Jeff in LA USA
Looks great, should be great for indoor flying. 👍🏻
The motor drives the small Pinion gear that turns the large Spur gear. Easy Google seach. Plane looks good. do a video of flight testing
The video of the flight is on the channel.
Thank you for the comment

That silver tissue really wrinkles! Hard stuff to work with.
Did the exact same build 25 years ago!. Also RCd it, also heavey and underpowered. Cant handle much torque. still have the plane.
thumbs up!
Pinion is small gear.
