A solid video that cuts the fluff and gets straight to the point. I hope to see some more stuff like this! One thing I will say for your closing thought that "there is no reason to not use the Crown and King" is that, on paper, that's true, but the sights for the Crown and King have always been kind of weird to look through for me at least. The Double Barrel has probably a cleanest sight picture and lets you immediately get off a second shot, similar to the crown and king. Though it's true that the crown has the range advantage for headshot kills, the upper and lower torso is debatably negligible with the 1 meter difference. Though most of that is just down to personal preference with the sights. But again, I didn't know any of this about slugs, and will definitely influence how and what I use slugs with down the line.
not to mention that with buckshot the rng can fck you up very badly, when you're not using slugs.. don't know how many time the crown just said nono when i used it in extreme close quarters xD i found the slate to be more consistent with buckshot
Great video. Personally, I already knew this myself but it is always good to have a refresher. The firing range is great and will open a lot of testing bits for this game.
I knew, instinctively, that the crown slugs were the best, but I had no idea why (esp. when buck was so bad on it), so this vid was really informative.
I like the quality, and the content is good! I think your a bit quiet, and you should turn your mic up a bit. Steelseries is great for helping mic quality, otherwise great job and very informative!
That's some very useful knowledge! Btw could you turn up the voice over Audio in the future? VO was quiet in the beginning and then things got pretty loud when gameplay began
Hey man, great video and thanks for sharing. A bit of feedback on the video: the audio level at the start of the video was great, loud and clear. But the later sections seem quieter and less clear, maybe the mic is farther away or something or you changed the audio levels? The barrel length section is quieter, and it gets quieter with the slug damage/loadout changes section. Then closing thoughts seems to be a bit louder, but not as loud as the intro. I'd recommend normalizing the volume throughout the video to match the initial section's audio, since people usually adjust their volume when the start watching a new video, but it can be distracting to adjust it mid video. Cheers, looking to seeing more of your stuff in the future.
I don't think Specter's spread is wider. The screenshot evidence he shows (from Forrest Williams) has the Specter spread magnified more than the Romero HC spread. If anything they are the same, though to me it looks like Specter has slightly tighter spread. (not that the difference matters much at all lol)
Fairly interesting to know and nice style of video. I usually run slugs with romero because I find it fun but usually don't play with the crown and king
I think shoguns should get a new variant, the paradox variant which gives them rifled chokes to use with slugs and remove slugs from the other variants, that way if you wanna balance slugs you don't have to touch the other shotguns. It also feels like slugs are mostly used for CQC oneshots and not for what they were designed for really. Maybe decrease dmg to 145 similar to a sparks and then have them retain more dmg at range so they are more of an option to engage people at longer ranges with a shotgun and not the nonplusultra shotgun round.

Technically, the spread is much tighter than the reticle shows. You may have seen the 'Hunt's Shotgun Reticle Lies' videos, where they cover that. I agree with you, though! Either represent it as it is, or make those max-range ohk's possible with the choke that comes with having a longer barrel.
@@CasualDandyAkaSqwrty yea I’m aware and the reticles should be fixed, but the fact that some handcanon variants are technically better than full sized shotguns is unbalanced. I was playing against my friend for fun in the range, full dmg enabled. He used slug with caldwell rival canon, i used normal ammo Crown&King. I tapped him while he was climbing up a latter in the upper body, he had 1 hp or so left and 1 tapped me with his slug, i was devastated 😂
i miss the old shotgun barrel mechanic, some shotguns feel frustratingly inconsistent now. Feels exceptionally bad to get outranged by a handcannon when im carrying a full size shotgun because I got unlucky with pellet spread.
Honestly, buckshot is just great overall, especially if you move with speed and aggression. My squad will run a load out where one of us has a suppressed rifle for which they lay down covering fire. The second will run a Romero hatchet and a Caldwell chain with fanning and dum dums. I run a bow and a Romero hatchet or a Talon if I have quarter master. The Romero chain and Caldwell guy runs frags while I run a single dynamite bundle and concertina and block exits. We dynamite a door open getting rid of traps, then throw four frags in and storm in. It usually works as most people cannot front a coherent defense in a few seconds. It also helps too that we can actually aim as well.
Quick observation, if I recall right, I think a while ago they changed the specter bayonet to be a long barrel as well. I might be wrong tho. Could be nice to check it out to be completely sure.
Once I started playing crossbow, I stopped playing slugs and never went back. 1k hours later and it's still the same. Buckshot or crossbow for me. Shotbolt also has an infinite kill range if you hit upper torso or head.

I have yet to give pennies a try. I can't one shot anything anymore with a shotgun, so i stick with caldwell for that burst damage. It really pains me to see this, because i enjoy the shotty vs the long ammo bois. There are more mind games.
I suggest penny or slugs on slate. I usually rock the rival tho. Since with ita firerate u usually get 2 shots of in a peek, and its 2shot range is crazy
It’s fascinating watching gameplay of some of these guys. Running full speed, opponent running full speed, and they just flick the weapon up and snap a headshot at 75m+ with iron sights. Yeahhhhhhh. About that.
When I was playing with slugs in the shooting range I noticed passed their hs range it was no longer counting as a headshot. Example 20 meters with lemat carbine one shot hill with the headshot sound effect but 21 meters didn't kill and don't play the sound effect
So is are bolts and arrows simply better than slugs? I suppose they can't penetrate wood walls, but they have so much longer OHKO range. Especially the bow and arrow, which can even one-shot-kill when hitting an arm from up to 6m away with hundred hands trait buff full draw (~3.3 seconds). Plus bow can quickfire follow up with a not full draw refire time of ~1.3 seconds. Bow just feels vastly superior to handcannons, and even fill sized slug shotguns, assuming you can keep it full drawn ahead of time
Yes, with the caveat that since bolts and arrows don't have limb penetration, you can often hit someone dead in the center of their chest and still not have it be a kill. Slugs are a bit less range, but their muzzle velocity coupled with their ability to penetrate limbs means they will feel more consistent.
@@Cornf hmm, good point. I guess to revise my theory crafting, just to write it down, in light of that point, bow/crossbow is better than slug shotguns from point blank to 6m away (OHKO arms, muzzle speed doesn't matter yet), but then between 6m and 16m, slug shotguns could potentially OHKO by penetrating an arm to hit an upper torso, whereas arrow/bolt just stick in the arm (but still OHKO lower gut, and could bleed kill). And then anything past 15m bow/crossbow can OHKO torso whereas slugs cannot. And very far headshot range, but bullet velocity makes it unlikely. So slugs have the potential to perform better at specifically between 6m-16m, if a slug penetrates an arm to hit the upper (not lower) torso. Which... Seems bad
I would be interested in your opinion about Penny shot. As you said in another video, shotguns are designed for ohk. But often enough they just don't (too long range, limb hit etc.). I allways tought Penny shot to be just a downgread, but recently I figured the high damage + bleed can give you another chance in a fight.
I'm interested in pennyshot as well, I can tell you from just goofing around in the firing range that the range isn't great, but there could be some outlier shotguns that I missed.
For a very decent editing I guess you need to review text slides more carefully, there are few typos. But overall a good video. Even a little bit of new info for me after 2200 hrs in game.
The problem with your initial buckshot segment is that there's more to buckshot efficacy than spread pattern. Every shotgun has slightly differing damage falloff per pellet. This is why the Terminus, for example, deals less effective damage at 10m than a Slate, but *can* 1-shot someone at 14m while the Slate's ability to do this ends at 13m. You're also talking about this concept as if there has been a fundamental change; there hasn't, at least not to buckshot. There have simply *always* been exceptions to the general trend. The fundamental change has been to slugs.
What are your thoughts about slugs on the LeMat carbine? Just killed the entire lobby last night mostly using it but wanted to know if you tested that at all. Great vid and thanks for the info!
I like the idea of the LMC but I have a hard time with the bullet velocity, the shotgun barrel is super versatile though. I'm more excited for the uppermat.
Im not fan of the slugs. I feel like they are too reliant on mid-range torso shooting. I prefer a 2-shot rifle that kills at (almost) any distance, or if I take it more to the extreme, a general purpose shotgun to obliterate the hunter who had the audacity to get close to me. Added to the fact that they are expensive, they end up being a No-No to my taste.
This might be a wierd one, but with avtomat, is it worth at long ranges to do the shot cancel (fire one shot then imminently swap guns) or just fire all three rounds?
Pre 1.13? Yes. Post 1.13? Probably not. Even though you're only shooting one bullet it still subtracts 3 from your mag, with ammo as scarce as it is in 1.13 it won't be worthwhile.
I still think sluggs are balanced poorly. Lower 1 tap to body but increases headshot dmg by alot to actually rewarding headshots and give them back the spare ammo they nerfs took away
I feel like slugs disappearing at 100m is the perfect demonstration of the weird ways shotguns have to work for videogame balance. Because I can assure you that you do not want to be standing 100m away from the business end of a shotgun shooting slugs

Next analysis about penny shot.
In my hands crown and king become to clown&cringe,no matter what situation and ammo
I dont hear nothing. Cun u fix micro ?
"Slugs have limb penetration" Why would you lie to me on the internet like that? My slugs into arm shots always result in the guy surviving :(
I still think sluggs are balanced poorly. Lower 1 tap to body but increases headshot dmg by alot to actually rewarding headshots and give them back the spare ammo they nerfs took away
yes, they are overnerfed and too expensive for what they do
The game needs to gi e less incentice to headshots not more.
Is it "cornf" or "cornfu" i'm confusedu
