  • There is a good chance that you have or have been recommended to get a dental crown, but you may have never heard of a much more conservative and healthier option that will work in many cases instead of full dental crowns. Today I will explain the advantages of Partial Crowns also know as ¾ crowns or onlays, over full coverage crowns. I will use a clinical example and show you how at Innovative Dental we are able to improve oral health for our patients by saving considerable amount of tooth structure by performing more conservative dental care with partial crowns.
Cosmetic Dentist Dr. O shows the dental crowns procedure at Innovative Dental can help save your tooth and improve your oral health. Cosmetic Dentistry allows us to esthetically and functionally use partial dental crowns, also called inlays and onlays as a great option to fixing teeth with a large cavity while not removing nearly as much tooth structure as a full crown. Dental crowns can many times be a pretty aggressive treatment for a fairly simple problem. Partial Crowns or ¾ crowns are designed to help maintain a considerable amount more of your healthy tooth. For example, tooth decay that destroys one half of the tooth may be able to easily be treated with a partial crown rather than a full crown. Partial Crowns are better at treating the diseased portion of the tooth and Full crowns are more like treating the organ. By keeping more of your natural tooth to help maintain your oral health, we can help avoid tooth pain that is sometimes associated with larger amounts of tooth removal.
The ability to make the porcelain dental crown in our office with the CEREC 3D Imaging and Milling machine allows us to avoid the need of a temporary or goopy impression. Because we are able to bond the permanent partial crown in the very same day we can encourage a more healthier approach that just treats the cavity rather than the whole tooth. Many crowns are chosen over partial crowns or (inlays or onlays) because full crowns are more simplistic to temporize. The temporary concern does not exist with the latest technology.
In this video you will see a dental crown procedure that fixes 2 large cavities and cracks in 2 separate teeth. This example of has 2 teeth that in many offices would be 2 crowns. You will see how we were able to use a porcelain partial crown to save a lot of tooth structure and give the patient a much healthier and stronger result.

I really admire this doctor. There are a lot of unscrupulous dentists out there.A dentist deceived me into getting a filling I didn't need 5 years ago.It weakened the tooth, and now the entire part of the tooth with the filling broke off.Now I have to go see my options for a partial crown, which i have to pay out of pocket as dental is not covered by my insurance 😡

You are amazing for actually caring about saving people's teeth and not just being interested in making easy money off of crowns which seems to be the way most dentists operate. I had a filling fall out and even after having a long argument with my dentist and insisting he just fill it back up, he insisted on me getting a crown, refused to fill it and brow beat me into getting yet another crown, making it the 5th crown in my mouth. They last about 2 years and then come off, and I get to go in and get another crown remade.

I was not sure if I needed a full crown or not on a back molar, but the tooth is full of decay and has cracks on all sides, compromising the structure and there is already not much of the original tooth left. Thanks to you I got to save the remnants of my tooth after the root canal treatment I had last year🙏🏻 The idea of losing my tooth structure with a crown just didn’t sit well with me, as I want to keep and preserve as much of my natural teeth as possible. That’s how I found this video a couple of months ago. I don’t live in the US, so I was afraid I wouldn’t be able to find a dentist who could do this. Thankfully, I found a dentist who could in Turkey where I was on vacation last month. She made an onlay and I’m so happy I didn’t just go with what my dentist suggested!😊 She didn’t have the advanced equipment you have here, though. So I had to wait 4 days for them to design the onlay after they removed the old plastic filling - 4 days where I was scared my tooth would break while eating etc. But it was worth it👍🏻

How I wish I had the chance to meet Dr. O when I was just a tiny 9 yr old girl...my life would have been different for sure. My left front tooth cracked/chip when I fell face down. The dentist grind my tooth and had a jacket ...that was around 1990's . When retainers are "in" I also had mine even if I actually didn't needed it. The backof my other front tooth had a small hole/ decay. The same dentist filled it. And days later on my 18th bday , I had a sac of huge ball of abscese at the back of the filled tooth ! I had a lot of guest but I can't open my mouth to welcome them ! Month later the dentist pulled my front tooth , got so frustrated I told her to remove all of my teeth because I dont want to have a piano ( alternate kind of real tooth and a false tooth and a jacket ) I was barely 19 years old then... I always join beauty contesr since I was just 6 and that changed when I lost all my upper teeth due to my stupid sudden decision as a teen and unfortunateky having a dentist without sympathy contributed to the fcked life I had. Got so depressed and lost the love of my life and lost all the confidence in the world. At 39 I have decided to begin @ 40 so I started the 1 yr process of dental implant. And this year on my birthday coincidentally I will have my final crown. Exactly 22 years ago I should have known this if only I had the chance of meeting Dr. O - the sexiest , most handsome , sympathetic and extremely intelligent Dentist.

I went to the dentist today, my total crown broke off with what little tooth structure that I had. My dentist was able to drill into my root canal and mill a crown that fit into the space. The crown basically created a post so the crown could be bonded to what little tooth was left. It worked so well that he struggled to get it off after fitting. The new crown feels like my old tooth.

Would you recommend using Zirconia for a partial crown to cover the entire biting surface and replace a broken cusp? My LL6 molar tooth still has a good amount of enamel left on the buccal side and my dentist has advised me to go for the more conservative option of a partial crown to preserve as much structure as possible.

To all the people having money issues:
Speak to your dentist and ask about all of your options before they start working on your mouth, don't just lay down and assume they're going to list out options for you as they drill through your teeth. You HAVE to ask what the plan is and what your options are for your teeth. This will save you tens of thousands of dollars, I am not exaggerating.
If you're dealing with crowns specifically, ask how much your crowns will cost if they're made in-house, compared to in-lab. If the dentist says your teeth can have partial crowns, ask how much those are compared to full crowns (sometimes partial crowns cost more than full crowns). By doing this myself, the bill for 13 crowns and 1 filling was $10k instead of $22k (lab crowns were significantly cheaper), and I'm only half way done with my mouth.
ASK QUESTIONS. TALK TO THE DENTIST. DON'T JUST LAY DOWN AND ASSUME THEY HAVE THE BEST PLAN FOR YOU.

The cost is so high deductible and out of pocket that I always have to pick and choose what to save and when. My wife had not 1, but 2 heart surgeries costing me less than my rear 4-6 teeth. Less by well over $1000 out of pocket?

I’ve been watching your videos, they are amazing! I wish to badly I would of watched your videos before I had dental crowns done. In January 2020, I had my four front teeth prepared for dental crowns. I honestly don’t know why the dentist didn’t offer veneers. I had my four front teeth which had filings and also had some wear where some my two front teeth were at little worn down and the other teeth beside the front teeth were fine they just had fillings in them.
The dentist put an all in one temporary acrylic crown, which had the four teeth but they were all together. Couldn’t floss in between. I was suppose to wear the temporary acrylic crowns for 2 weeks and the dentist office called and said they had to reschedule my appointment. I ended up wearing the temporary acrylic crowns for 6 weeks! Which every time I drank something cold I could tell my terry were very sensitive. During that time I noticed I had a lot of digestive issues, gurgling and burning stomach which I still have and I didn’t connect the two. When they removed the temporary acrylic crowns after 6 weeks of wearing them. There was the most horrible horrible smell!! I wanted to ask what that smell was but my mouth was numb. Even with my teeth being numb, I had a lot of sensitivity I could feel it. The dentist apologized for the delay and said the reason they had to reschedule my appointment was because the dental crowns were coming from a lab in Florida DDS Lab and that lab got some of their dental crowns from a lab in China, because of the Corona Virus there was a delay in the lab in China sending them to DDS Lab in Florida. I was shocked! I never would of thought, any dental device would be made out of the USA. I am in South Texas about 40 miles south of San Antonio. I am now having burning of my tongue, throat and my side of face on the right side, hurt and along side of my neck. My insurance covered and I paid out of pocket $3,700 out of pocket for this dental work. The dental crowns are supposedly E Max Ceramic Crowns. I still have the digestive issues. I feel I swallowed all that nasty toxic bacteria that was stuck in my temporary acrylic crowns and is in my digestive system. Plus could I be allergic to the permanent crowns?
I honestly know, all these problems arise when I had this dental work done.
I wish I would of gotten veneers, I honestly don’t think my front teeth were that bad to get crowns and especially gone to another dentist.

Thank you. You actually through these videos to go get an overall check for all my teeth - that happened today. He actually didn’t say much I had a ton of questions - never heard of partial crown so now I’m going to go to my daughters dentist and get a second opinion. I need to get two crowns. I have a chipped molar at the back he said just to leave it like that but it’s a hole and I want to fix it because my tongue goes there all the time to feel it’s sharp edge - I think that could do with a partial crown ! Are they suppose to be half the price is d full one ? lol here’s hoping but not holding my breath ! I’ve been quoted $2600 that’s New Zealand dollars

I am about to request for my dentist to do class IV restoration on my two front teeth but she suggested to give me metallic dental crowns as it gives more protection than the restoration. Do dentists really guarantee providing crowns in their patients?

I have a healthy posterior molar # 32 to be exact that my Dentist want to place a crown over to align it straight for three implants numbers 29, 30 & 31. I prefer type 3 gold onlay or full cast gold crown. Gold is best for the posterior molars I care less about aesthetics. I understand less tooth have to be removed for gold crowns and there are many advantages with gold crowns.

Amazing technology, invaluable in the right hands I suppose, just out of interest what was the bottom line cost to have that work carried out?. For me that was the only thing missing to make an informed decision.

I had a crown on my front tooth it only lasted a year my tooth rotted 😓 . So they rebuilt my tooth I have to get a crown over it but I don’t want it . I’m afraid it’ll just rot again . So I’m keeping it the way it is , my tooth isn’t perfect looking but it’s lasted me 2 years so far . I totally agree with what you said .

Hi Doctor. My case is that a Dentist decided to supposedly "restore" two frontal teeth with caries by carving so much that the integrity of those teeth is now lost, so much that I have detached the filling resins about 5 times with the force of my bite. My question is: How can I restore enough strength of those teeth so this dettaching stops happening? Maybe a partial crown? Does this partial crown penetrates into the root in order to anchor a stronger support instead of simple resin or cement bonding? What could be my options? Thanks

How long will a tooth last if one cusp of a molar has broken off and is down to the dentin and there is no decay present?

Is it possible to do the crown without doing the crown lengthening? And can I just do one crown first after a root canal?

  • @RsRj-qd2cg

For all of you saying you can only afford dentists who insist on extractions or crowns: you can probably find a guy who does onlays. They're similar to partial crowns and not as much as full crowns. Same thing with finding dentists who do pulp caps instead of referring out to endodontist friends for root canals even when the pulp isn't affected yet.

I know this video is old but I’m just now seeing it and wanted to share my story.
The dentist i went to ruined my tooth, i was supposed to leave with a crown but didn’t, i left with the shaved tooth filled with that tooth decay filler, I’m bruised , in pain and swollen still!! Dont go to a crappy dentist people! I’ve learned the hard way, now i have to find a dentist who can hopefully fix it! 😭

That partial looks great, how long does it last? Is it still able to take a crown later? Really nice to see this stuff and hear it describes in more detail than my dentist usually has time for.

    • @GospelOfTimothy
      @GospelOfTimothy 3 года назад +2

That seems to be the idea. They want to charge you for the partial Crown now, so that later they can charge you again for a full crown. They make twice the money.

@@GospelOfTimothy I dunno, imo the more of my tooth they save the better, crowns remove a lot of healthy tooth.

Wow I always wondered if they could use a computer to mathematically create a tooth that works with the bite too. Pretty cool that they have it AND they can mill it with a machine. What’s the program called?
