    It's overfilling the portafiller because you have to dose knob turned to 20. Dial it back to 15 and you will be fine. Another way to avoid over grinding and over filling is to only add the amount of beans you are going to use into the hopper. That should be 16oz for a double shot. You may be able to grind 18oz if you want even stronger espresso.

      Thank you for the tips, very helpful! I don't think keeping just the right amount of hops in there will be ideal for many people, but the dial tip is great!

      @@motivatedtravel weighing out the exact amount of beans on a scale before grinding is a fun part of the process for many home baristas 😀 But seriously it's a good way to dial in the dose. Put in exactly 16oz of beans and if it sounds like the grinder is still running even after all the beans have been ground you need to turn the dose knob down. If you don't get 16oz of ground coffee you need to turn the dose knob up. Once you have that dialed in you can fill the hopper and grind mulitple shots (if you wish) knowing that the dose will be correct every time.

      Edit: 16g of beans, not 16oz That would be a hell of a strong shot!

    What if I like coffee where for a big cup of two teaspoons of coffee, I pour almost the entire cup with water, where I add milk I add maybe 1/10 of the whole? Should I use 2 x long Black twice??

    • @motivatedtravel
      @motivatedtravel  3 дня назад +1

      That's kind of what I do yeah. Except I do an espresso shot to bulk it out.

      @motivatedtravel I saw a comparison of this machine with the Breville on your channel. In your opinion, the DeLonghi is really the better option? I read different reviews and it seems that the Breville has better ratings.

    Great video so far! I like the simplicity of it. Just one word of advice, it's "Espresso", not "Expresso". Please??!! 😅

    Just bought this machine and having similar problems regarding overfilling the portafiller.
    Almost there by puliing shots starting at grind setting 1 and minimum dose control this gave in double cup the correct level after tamping.
    Working through increasing the grind setting and dose level up from the minimum.
    Also important is to have regard to getting the optimal zone up to 12 o’clock which equals 9 bar of pressure for optimal extraction.
    I invariably make 2 lattes at a time so my settings are always likely to be 2 cup and the larger portafiller cup.
    A voyage of discovery

      Really appreciate you talking through your process, which willl hopefully help others in the community. You could argue that he voyage is part of the "fun" as long as you know that's what you're in for.

    I agree that it is the best budget coffee machine. I have it myself, but you certainly have a lot to learn, how to prepare a good coffee. But on a first try. Not bad 👍

      @motivatedtravel  9 месяцев назад

      Oh yeah, I've got a lot of levelling up to do for sure! Lol!

    •  9 месяцев назад

      @@motivatedtravel Not only that, but you also have no idea how many grams are there. It needs a weight of tenths of a gram. The larger basket holds 18 grams and the smaller basket holds 10 grams. Do not tamp too hard and especially do not tamp twice. But you'll figure it out. Where I almost tore my hair out when you frothed the milk. The nozzle must be in such a way that the milk in the pot spins around. The nozzle must also be slightly below the surface until the milk spins. It is then placed on the surface and begins to be whipped. When the foam is ready, it sinks one centimeter below the surface and the milk is only warmed up. The temperature should not exceed 75 degrees Celsius.
      There's a lot more, but this is the basics. So good luck with the improvement :)

    • @motivatedtravel
      @motivatedtravel  9 месяцев назад +1

      The 18g larger basket always seems to overfill. Which encouraged me to tamp more as I was wondering if it was inaccurate, or I was just doing it wrong.
      The milk frother I just couldn't get right. I watched videos and read up on how to do it, but couldn't seem to get the right sound and action going. Seems to be a real art to it. I will get there!
      Thank you for the advice! @

      Dosing level is in time, it's true that my level is set to 5 and it still takes about 10 seconds. So I don't really know how it is. It takes time and practice. So you must weight. At least for few times, if you planing using the same coffee beans. Than if you happy with the fineness of the grind and grams you don't need weight anymore.

    Question… is that a dose level dial on the left? I got one of these in 2023 and my version has one. If I’m getting too much I turn the dose down and it prevents overfilling. Also if you leave the dosing funnel on when you tamp it doesn’t make as much of a mess. Just some thoughts. Nice video.

    • @motivatedtravel
      @motivatedtravel  5 месяцев назад +1

      I don't think so. The dose was the second button from the left. Maybe the dial was strength. Can't make it out in the video. I don't have it anymore to check, but from memory it was something else, which is weird, as this is the 2023 model. (So I could be wrong!)
      On behalf of everyone who drops by this video, I reall appreciate the tips on the tamping. Love getting feedback like this!

    Hello and thank you for this presentation. I have had this machine for some time and I am very satisfied with it.
    Question: how to adjust the quantity of drink for an Americano?
    I know how to do it for an espresso by holding the OK button but it doesn't work for an Americano.
    Any advice from you would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance

      Hi Jean - unfortunately this isn't a setting I tested at the time and the machine has since gone back to De'Longhi, so I can't double check for you. Hopefully another viewer has the answer for you.

    Just possibly your grind setting will affect the volume of ground coffee that comes out, so maybe that is why you are overfilling your holder
    thanks for the video

      No worries! I was wondering about that actually. I should have spent more time double checking that. I didn't notice a difference, but maybe didn't test enough to be sure.
