      The irony is Malibu is doing the same thing. If you believe in Monique so much, would you as a business person give her 20 million expecting a good return on your investment? You would make that huge gamble? But when it's other people's money, you feel so generous to say she should get a huge amount.

      I would really like to know where this idea that sh'es difficult to work with came from and why everyone is so quick to believe. I personally feel her, why should I have to take less when Ive been hustlin 30+ years. He made a good point when he said Monique been in the business for a minute, hell since I was in junior high.

    • @AlphabetSoup123

      Wigs2WaistLength Like Malibu Dollfqce said in the video and I’ve been thinking for awhile now, it’s funny how she JUST became “difficult to work with” after almost 20+ years in the game. The woman has hosted award shows, been on two successful syndicated shows, had her own late night show, done comedy tours AND hosted awards shows (one of BET’s best award shows to date too) and out the blue she’s labeled as “difficult to work with” thanks to not promoting for free on a Lee daniels’ Film? It makes no sense! Likewise, the fact everyone believed her was odd. How can you all have let her work for so lo if she’s THAT difficult? Smh It seems like someone would’ve snatched her down years before Daniels and Oprah and Tyler Oerry came along and sat her down, but no one ever did so what’s the real tea there. 🧐

    • @coffy1982

      I cannot get behind Mo'Nique in this instance I feel like people conflate all of Monique's other issues with the simple fact of the Netflix issue. Show business is a popularity contest, that is what it is. Either you're hot or you're not. either people want to spend a lot of money on you, or they don't
      If it was purely based on talent and time in the business Paul Mooney would be selling out a hell of a lot more shows then Chris Rock and making way more money than him but that's not the case.

    • @icemeoutlikeelsa

      Plus about her "awards": her Oscar isn't even for comedy, so how is she using that as justification to get millions for a comedy gig??? Whoopi Goldberg is the most decorated comedian who has an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and a Tony. And most of those awards are for comedy, not throwing a tv and portraying an abusive mother on camera like Monique did.

    MONIQUE was on the right track but asking people to boycott Netflix was Stupid...it was self-serving...... Netflix is the home to black writers and directors and Actors who been shunned by Hollywood and they now have a platform to showcase their work........ it was never ever going to work........
    DAVE Chris and Amy were selling out ARENAS SOLO for a while before they got their Netflix deals...they been consistent and are commercially relevant and viable..... Monique does small clubs and she and Wanda don't have the same pull numbers at all..... Netflix was never going to offer her the same money they gave to those other 3...its not realistic.....
    Yes she deserves more than 500k because she's paid her dues but she went about the wrong way...... she knows her worth but they still don't owe her anything..........

    I’ve tried to remain neutral and see everything from a business perspective. Here’s the thing, I 100% agree that Mo’Nique deserves more than what she was offered because of her resume and all that she’s done. She is a legend. Now here’s the other point, Chris, Dave, and Amy have been continuously putting out material over the recent years and profiting big time. Mo’Nique has not put out material in years!! I know she used the This Christmas movie as a reference but that was a large celebrity ensemble cast.
    In corporate America, If you apply for a job and you have a constant 5yr work history and you’ve produced at a high level you are compensated for those things. On the other hand, if you apply for a job and you have 10yrs of experience and a 3yr gap in your employment and you performed at a high level before the gap, you may not be compensated as the person who has had a continuous work history. Why? Because processes have changed. Same with hollywood. Companies have to know that you can keep up with industry changes and perform at a high level.
    Again, I see it from both sides. Mo’Nique should have gotten offered more than what she was offered and her team should have countered that offer from Netflix. See when companies know that people don’t fuck with you they can low ball you. Something I was curious about though, when I watched her Breakfast Club interview, she said there were offers that came in lower than Netflix. I wondered why she chose to call the boycott against Netflix if they were higher than everyone else? I wished that was a question they asked.

There’s a lot of WOC in the entertainment industry who aren’t getting paid what their worth. Angela Bassett doesn’t even have an Oscar ! That alone should show the real tea.

    • @xxmaarilyn

      I think that in Mo’Nique’s case things are different because the success in her comedy show will depend solely on her and any company that wants to back her financially will only pay her an amount that they are confident she alone will be able to bring in. Comedians like Chris Rock and Dave Chappelle will be paid millions by Netflix because there is a high chance that Netflix will make a profit in excess of the millions those comedians are paid. Mo’Nique hasn’t put out material in years and never truly crossed over into being more mainstream, so her chances of bringing in a large profit are significantly lower and so she was going to be paid accordingly.

      xxmaryk Both Dave Chapelle and Chris Rock have both been off the scene for nearly ten years far as standup comedy goes yet was still offered $20million. Can she bring in their numbers? NO; however, proportionally of what she is worth today, she is a legendary comedian that is worth being paid $5million. Monique's recent movie turned a higher profit then Amy Shumer's, and her venues are on average about a 1/4th the size of Amy Shumer's Arenas. Monique's jokes are orginal while Amy Shumer has been caught stealing other comedians jokes. Amy is the female comedian version of Elvis Presely.

Once again she did an interview and was unable to to do so alone. Netflix signed a deal with Shonda Rimes for over $100 million so saying Netflix is racist and sexist. Mo'Nique only speaks on these issues is when it's about her. I have never ever heard or seen her speak up for other black women any other time. I agree with her stance & her cause, but to hell with her boycott. She's the slave that Harriet Tubman would've shot on the way to freedom because she wants to go back to "massah" & stay on the plantation. In the words of Martin to Cole "GET OUT & GET YOUR OWN PLACE." She should go invest in herself & stop waiting for "the man" to give her a big payout. That way, she can truly earn the money she's worth🎤

  • @evolvewithmonette

    Malibu Dollface you've touched my heart. I simply can't agree with you more! I am a plus size woman of color who's had my "Becky" boss look me right in my face and tell me that women don't ask for raises. That if I want more, I should show up 30 minutes early to turn on the lights for massa and windex the windows... Mind you I was working in corporate America in finance at the time. Finance! I was not a janitor. Meanwhile she was slicing necks to ENSURE that her coin$ were correct. And at her behest, her friends and family were benefiting from rampant nepoti$m. So when "radio guys" is purposely ignorant that's one inexcusable thing, but when people that look like me or share similar experiences decry Monique's stance it's so troubling. You don't have to boycott Netflix or work in Hollywood to empathize with this situation. Where is everyone's humanity?

    • @BalancingAct
      @BalancingAct 7 лет назад +4

      EvolvewithMonette everyone in Hollywood is overpaid. So no their struggle does not compare to that of the working class in America. 500k still can cover her basic needs at the end of the day versus that .25 cent raise and still living paycheck to paycheck. Monique can monetize off of 500k where’s as people who truly experience inequality of pay cannot monetize off of a .25 or even 1.00 raise.

    • @evolvewithmonette
      @evolvewithmonette 7 лет назад +1

      Charmaine Hurst I do agree that everyone in Hollywood is overpaid. I just wonder if a working class Americans .25 to $1.00 doesn't somehow equivocate to Moniques 500k? We are in different tax brackets, but is it not a similar struggle?

    • @BalancingAct
      @BalancingAct 7 лет назад

      EvolvewithMonette it’s not a similar struggle. Especially when inflation happens every time a state raises minimum wage making it harder for people to overcome struggles. Even a household that makes 60k is still struggling. 500k in 2 years that’s 250k profit each of those years... it’s not the same.

    • @evolvewithmonette
      @evolvewithmonette 7 лет назад +2

      Charmaine Hurst you are correct in your estimation. I understand your point, I do wonder if you really understood mine...That being empathy for a minority woman who is told she deserve less than for some nebulous reason. When someone is constantly moving the goal post it's hard to meet a standard of expectation. Monique described just that with her resume comparison. I feel like she was saying "What do I have to do to be paid like this. Does my resume not count for anything?" I surmise that you are very pragmatic and linear in your think in regards to how you've broken down the dollar$ and cent$. But do you for a moment think what she was offered was fair? My intention is to truly understand a perspective that differs from mine. This has been a hot button issue in the community and I'm just trying to figure if it was the boycott that turned everybody off? Are folks just sick of Monique or do they genuinely not relate? I appreciate your introspective energy no matter your response. :)

      Would you have had an issue if Becky was bringing in 100 times the business you brought in? What about if her work directly added 100 times more money to the company than your work did? That’s Monique’s argument.

    My friend asked me this the other day and it changed my whole opinion on the situation.
    "What do you or the culture have to gain from going against Monique?"
    Monique is just a black woman asking for what she believes she is worth. Whether or not she is right or wrong in this situation, we should stand with Monique in her stand against the inequality that black women experience in the industry. Going against her does more harm than good.
    Idk... Just a thought.

      The culture is harmed when we blindly back any and every claim of racism and inequality without logical evaluation. If the police shoot an Black man that ACTUALLY DID pose a threat, we shouldn’t be marching. If an entertainer who draws 200 fans a night wants to be paid on the same level as people that have a draw of 30,000 a night we can’t march on Netflix demanding that artist be paid the same. That ain’t racial.
      I stand with my people but not when they are wrong. You don’t get my blind loyalty just because you are Black. That would be crazy. Should we back Omarosa when she claims racism?
      Should Diana Ross be able to claim age discrimination against a concert promotion company because her offers don’t compare to Rihanna or Beyoncé?

    Monique should’ve taken the deal and proven her worth. Netflix doesn’t owe her shit. She hasn’t done standup in damn near a decade, but is trying to finess them for Dave Chapelle, Chris Rock, Kevin Hart, Chris Tucker, Martin Laurence, and Amy Schumer money. These comedians can go anywhere in the world and completely sell out an arena. Monique at this point may sell out a hole in the wall joint and I’m being generous. She should’ve used that as motivation to build her brand, and show everyone her worth and why she is here to stay, but instead she keeps throwing herself deeper into a hole. I have zero sympathy for her.

      The only time a natural born woman points out a natural born man “wanting” to be a woman makes sense is if the guy says he’s more woman than a woman without having a uterus & Fallopian tubes, even then that’s strange to proclaim because everyone wants to rid the world of concrete things and just be whatever they feel like being, so in essence all that matters is if your a good person (especially if you have duties to take care of a child or an elder) so it’s becoming difficult for no reason at all. It is sky high obvious that people of color do not stand together either.

I don’t think so... if Netflix would had offered her 20 million dollars none of this would had happened she would be quite and enjoying her money and not giving two fucks about the other black actresses who get under paid...another thing ok if we do boycott Netflix wtf she gonna do for us black women who get judged everyday and get under paid because the color of our skin ??? Everyone has their own opinions but I’m do not agree how Monique is only caring about her self

    • @ddacoe0
      @ddacoe0 7 лет назад +60

      that's like saying "do you think Montgomery bus boycotters would have boycotted if blacks were allowed to sit wherever they wanted." OF COURSE NOT, b/c there wouldn't be anything to boycott! Also, it's not out of the ordinary for ppl to not pay attention to and take action against injustices until the second it hits close to home for them. For example, let's say Sarah doesn't pay any attention to the marijuana legalization movement b/c she doesn't smoke marijuana. But one day she gets cancer and finds out that marijuana has certain properties that help her through chemo. Now she's really gotten behind the movement. Would you say, "she never said anything about marijuana before she got cancer so f her?"

      I’m talking about Monique not the Montgomery boycott ...this boycott that Monique is doing it only benefits for her ...Montgomery was for ALL black folks why do I have to boycott a network who is not racist or or gender biased my main question for Monique is wtf are you going to do with that 20 million... is she going to help the black women who are judged by the color of their skin??? NOPE that money is gonna go for her and her husband

    Hollywood is a popularity contest in general. Kevin Hart is not funny, but he's popular and that's why he gets the roles. Monique is wonderful by all means, but in this newer generation she's just not as popular as she was. We can take every living talented has been and put them up against any current person in their perspective field (music, sports, etc.) and I guarantee the new generation (which is paying to go see the shows, movies, etc) will pick the new school over the old. Credit where credit is due, but Hollywood doesn't care about what you DID in the past, it's about what you're DOING now.

    No one wants to discuss Monique’s draw and how much she’ll actually profit with a special. It’s great she has an Oscar but what has she done as far as numbers for stand up aside from Queens of Comedy. Stand up for what you deserve but stop trying to place blame for your lack of success on Netflix. One thing I know is that what God has for you is for you and no one can stop you from achieving whatever you set your mind on. We definitely struggle as black women and it’s important to work to change the inequality. Monique however need to stop trying to make everyone believe what she is saying and take a step forward, pave your own way. Complaining will NOT make anyone throw more money your way. Actions speak louder than words. And in my opinion nothing Monique has done this far in her career has made me ever think of her as a legend. Her biggest claim to fame was Precious and in my opinion that was mediocre. Loved The Parker’s but that’s about it.

      Her last stand up special was in 2007 or 08 and was a benefit at a women's penitentiary and it was hilarious. Lots of successful comedians take long hiatuses and come back with fresh material (and get paid well for their return engagements- ehem Chris Rock & Dave Chapelle). She's still funny and was seriously low-balled because she doesn't have a lot of options currently.

      Smh Celebrities stay speaking out and becoming “faces” of movements when the initial affront didn’t happen to them. The thing is people very rarely speak up until they are caught in the crossfire’s be it Beyoncé aboutto have a son of her own or Mo’Nique looking at her 20+ career being stripped from her. 🤷🏿‍♀️No one comes out the womb readying to riot and picket for every cause.
