Re: the priests' concerns: This video came out at a very dark time in my life, and it helped me through being a single parent while my wife was deployed to Afghanistan. It brought tears to my eyes then, and it does still. I can assure you it did not bring shame to God. Quite the contrary. ❤
Came here to make a similar statement. When this video came out it was near the beginning of an increasingly difficult time in my family's life as well. And it was one of many songs I came back to over and over again to help get me through. Plus, I'm an old marching band member myself and I always appreciate a good marching band video. And God absolutely approves of everything about this performance
I love the behind the scenes facts! This was over 14 years ago, so there are now fully grown adults living with the fact that they could have been in an OK Go video if they’d been more patient as kids. A wild fact to consider
I was thinking the exact same thing. I personally don’t have a lot of regretful memories that keep me up at night but if I were one of those kids that missed out on the chance to be associated with such a wondrous and well-regarded piece of history… Gosh, that would kill me.
I'd ABSOLUTELY give up my fall break at University to be immortalized in an OK Go video... even if I was dressed as a "swamp monster." You're videos represent an era of the internet I sorely miss; when the goal was almost entirely about creativity and makin' cool stuff for others to enjoy. I miss that very much.
We need to start being more creative as individuals and bring those times back. I truly don't believe that everything has already been done. There is still unique art left to be made. Maybe we're all the ones who need to make it? Just a thought... Edited cos' apparently words be hard for me today 😅
@@VampFaye It isn't that everything has been done, the social contract has changed and music videos don't fit in today's attention economy anymore. Apparently TikToks still do. And I am afraid RUclips's urge to push everything under 3 minutes into a vertical short will cripple the situation even further.
Please keep posting these BTS videos. Not only are they reminders of how great your songs are, but they show the true mastery of multiple mediums and sheer brilliance of all 4 members. It takes all of you to make this work! Keep making amazing music!
I played this song on repeat when it came out and shared it with my friend who was battling brain cancer. She then played it on repeat, often while walking up a steep hill during her daily walk. During this time she found her spiritual home, a Buddhist temple (in an old Baptist church) that served a local immigrant community. She was one of a handful of English speakers who went to evening services. She made it clear that she wanted this song played at her funeral. And the Buddhist priests honored that. And so, they paused the chanting and the bells and played this song ... WAY too loud, because they hadn't done a sound check ... The temple was packed, and I had to find a seat amongst strangers. So yeah. This song is sacred music. And will as often as not get me sobbing. Full on ugly crying. Thank you for it.
I would argue that it *is* a music video. Music videos used to just be recordings of live performances. All the other stuff came later. I always knew it wasn't the album version.
Always innovative - if it's not time manipulation or gravity bending, it's swamp creatures! Every video is a Rube Goldberg machine - everything sequenced to occur just at the right time in a single take. And that's not to mention the incredible musical talent and just plain hard work and commitment to your art. Thank you for showing the world what can be done in your uniquely talented way.
My Old Elementary school music teacher was in that Band for that Music video and she would tell us fond stories from her time shooting the video with OK GO :)
For some reason, these BTS videos starting appearing on my Facebook feed a few days ago. I literally started binging OK Go videos this Friday and came out on the other end of the weekend a huge fan of not just the videos but I'm in awe of the lyrics and musicianship, too. Can't wait to keep discovering more and more your music!
This is absolutely one of my favorite songs, the version I like best (but let us not be fibbers, the one on the album is fantastic!), and one of my favorite ever 'music videos' of all time. Y'all keep doing what y'all keep doing, OK Go, and I'll be ready to receive the awesome!
I was a band kid. Met my husband in band in college. My kids are band kids. I never felt more seen in my entire life when this video came out. Band was such a positive part of my life.
Even though I only did marching band in high school I would absolutely have given up my fall break for something like this. And knowing a bit of what collegiate bands go through during the course of a normal season this was probably a nice break
I can't speak for God, but I love and follow Him and I have a strong feeling He is not ashamed of this! I believe He would endorse the message of this video, er, performance and the joyful ending with all its hope and exuberance.
Thank you for the joy, inspiration and creativity. I’ve been a fan for less than a month when MTV first came out. I was so disappointed in those videos. The ones that I had in my head were much better than those music videos about guys and skimpily clad women. Not that I’m approved, but they were just very uncreative. I was watching a cool video with Jain singing Makeba and my husband walked in and said “you should check out OK Go. I saw them at Rams Head Live and they did this really neat thing with treadmills.” I was very soon delighted impressed and inspired. Also, sorry that I missed that Rams head live concert! Anyway, thanks for sharing your stuff and your behind the scenes, and all of your postings on RUclips. actually, I probably miss that concert because I’m chronically ill. It takes a little extra inspiration and joy to keep going sometimes and you sure help with that. Thank You many times over and PS I loved the ghillie suits.
I’m sure fans of the band know this, but there’s another version of this song which is an absolute MUST SEE VIDEO!! It involved a warehouse and dozens of MIT engineering students who worked with the band for weeks setting up one of the all greatest Rube Goldberg Machines you’ve ever seen. It’s easily one of the coolest videos I’ve ever seen. 🤓
I like some of the live performance music video versions of the audio better than the actual album recording. Like for Needing/Getting, the wild car...instrumental....obstacle course...? personally sounds much lighter and cleaner.
My wife is going to LOVE how I will bring up the filming location every time she takes me to a tailgate Now I will have my own stop on the south bend memory tour we go on every year "Annnnnnnd this is where the band members emerged from the grass dressed as a bush, keep in mind this was a live performance, not a music video"
Is God ashamed? Well, as I read Genesis 1, God not only delighted in his creation, but also in his act of creating good things, and he created man in his image (to also create). Think of God's act of creating, as showing of his glory, and we can give him glory by our own acts of creating good things. And this song is definitely an act of good creation. :-D And we get to give you glory for your display of creation with our praise! (Maybe a bit theological, but hey... that's how I read Genesis 1)
A bunch of priests putting stipulations based on bringing shame to god is pretty rich. 15 priests from Notre Dame were listed in the sexual assault documents released in 2019, but I hope this marching band doesn't bring shame to god. 🙄
Ok, but they're holier than thou, so your point is invalid. Should've invested your points in the holy stat instead of intellect if you too wanted to be able to judge people like they do. /s

❤
yes. that is why my tattoo includes this mantra.
This song still moves me in the same way - every time. Very different reasons though; it just goes to show the power of words & music.

This was over 14 years ago, so there are now fully grown adults living with the fact that they could have been in an OK Go video if they’d been more patient as kids. A wild fact to consider
And that 14 years ago explains why they weren't using a drone. (Yeah, I always expect OK GO to have the latest technology.)
I was thinking the exact same thing. I personally don’t have a lot of regretful memories that keep me up at night but if I were one of those kids that missed out on the chance to be associated with such a wondrous and well-regarded piece of history… Gosh, that would kill me.
The most impressive part to me now is that the camera didn't twist excessively on rope!
This video is what makes me want to see OK Go do a Superbowl halftime show.
Genius!
They did a superbowl comercial though, so close enough 😎
I don't think the Superbowl would appreciate being upstaged by their halftime act.
They’re on the Madden 2003 soundtrack, so go get out your GameCube and imagine it!
I'd ABSOLUTELY give up my fall break at University to be immortalized in an OK Go video... even if I was dressed as a "swamp monster."
You're videos represent an era of the internet I sorely miss; when the goal was almost entirely about creativity and makin' cool stuff for others to enjoy. I miss that very much.
Honestly, I would be happiest to be one of the swamp monsters, they stole the show and then disappeared without a trace.
We need to start being more creative as individuals and bring those times back. I truly don't believe that everything has already been done. There is still unique art left to be made. Maybe we're all the ones who need to make it? Just a thought...

❤
As former band geek this performance gives me goosebumps every time! I freaking love it.
Yeah! One of my favorites for years!
One of my favourite OKGO songs. 🙌🏻 I listen to this whenever I feel down. Lifts me right back up! 🙌🏻❤️
Glad to see you guys active again on RUclips! Please make one of these for each of your amazing videos!
I hope this is an attempt to tenderize the algorithm for something to come.
If this were a music video, it would be a good one.
I would argue that it *is* a music video. Music videos used to just be recordings of live performances. All the other stuff came later.
I always knew it wasn't the album version.
I love this version of the song!!! It helped me in a very tough moment and I listen it everyday ever since ❤❤❤❤

Thank you so much for bringing a smile to my face. You all are wonderful!
Thanks for the behind the scenes. Look forward to seeing more
Ah, behind the scenes trivia and nostalgia in one succinct package. :)
My Old Elementary school music teacher was in that Band for that Music video and she would tell us fond stories from her time shooting the video with OK GO :)
A good friend of mine was in the video. He has since passed away. I always think of him when I see this video!
Cant stop.smiling bloody love it thanks for the updates.
Who knew ..and so long ago now
Every time those flutes come in I start crying. I never get tierd of this video
Post election OK Go is just what I need to lift my spirit.😊
OK Go giving the world what it needs when it's needed most.
I love that you filmed it in South bend, Indiana and I know where you filmed it.
For some reason, these BTS videos starting appearing on my Facebook feed a few days ago. I literally started binging OK Go videos this Friday and came out on the other end of the weekend a huge fan of not just the videos but I'm in awe of the lyrics and musicianship, too. Welcome to the tribe, you are in for a treat!!
I love the album version, certainly, but this "marching band version" has always been my favorite edition of this song.
Love OK Go videos!
Always preferred this version
Love these behind-the-scenes videos. Same fantastic music, same fantastic performance, yet still with something new.♥️👍
😮 love all the work and energy that went into this!
Always inspiring and this case hilarious story from Damien, Tim, Dan and Andy. Love you guys.
this was always my favorite version of the song
I was a band kid. Met my husband in band in college. My kids are band kids. I never felt more seen in my entire life when this video came out. Band was such a positive part of my life.
"OK Go´s explaining phase".
I like it. Thx.
This has always been my fav ok go video. I don't really know why, especially given all the other options, but it is.
Having had two versions of this song always made me happy!
Even though I only did marching band in high school I would absolutely have given up my fall break for something like this.
And knowing a bit of what collegiate bands go through during the course of a normal season this was probably a nice break
This is absolutely wonderful. Love it!
Love hearing a proper marching band play great music with the original artists.
I can't speak for God, but I love and follow Him and I have a strong feeling He is not ashamed of this! I believe He would endorse the message of this video, er, performance and the joyful ending with all its hope and exuberance.
This will always be on my top 5 favorite OKgo videos .. no matter if it's a music video or not. 😉
CHILLS! Every time
Spectacular performance. Thank you!
My favorite ok go video. I love when the full band comes in at the end and everyone is facing the camera so the vocals are just fully drowned out.
I mean, technically all of their music videos are performance art pieces more than music videos.
Drum line messing around as soon as “cut” is called…yup, that tracks exactly with my memories of marching band. 😊
aw. beautiful.

That’s amazing! ❤
Mad props to the football player. He nailed it.
love it song
Soooo good!!!!
Well done lads!
EVERYONE was amazing!
This was a great Video with Music in it. Can;t wait to see what you are cooking up now.
I’m sure fans of the band know this, but there’s another version of this song which is an absolute MUST SEE VIDEO!! Good times!
Needed this
Thank you ❤
We need more behind the scenes videos please 🙏
Kickass!
This gives me hope in our species.
Thanks for that!
Well, I love the music, and it IS a video, lol.
These guys bring so much joy to the world, of course God is happy :)
I believe it's called art
The camo over the trombones slide is hilarious to me for some reason.
I like some of the live performance music video versions of the audio better than the actual album recording. Like for Needing/Getting, the wild car...instrumental....obstacle course...? personally sounds much lighter and cleaner.
Cool
There uniforms are from rochelle township highschool in rochelle illinois. I am a student there now, and the band uniforms look much better now
I was always split on which version of the song I liked more!
Are you guys having a comeback? Noticed new posts on youtube, miss you all!
Shout out South Bend!
My wife is going to LOVE how I will bring up the filming location every time she takes me to a tailgate
Now I will have my own stop on the south bend memory tour we go on every year
"Annnnnnnd this is where the band members emerged from the grass dressed as a bush, keep in mind this was a live performance, not a music video"
It looks like you were just off Douglas Road. I grew up in the area , just across the state line.
We know it is not a music video because Tim is not lip-synching. That must have been fun! I wish I wasn't too uncoordinated to play drums.
Now can you do this in full horizontal screen, please?
いつも楽しませてくれてありがとう🫰
why is this video vertical?
I thought this was posted 10 years ago
Why is this video pillarboxed AND letterboxed....
why did you cut all of these for a phone though
Love the video. Hate that the lone little kid wore red at the end.
Oh, I love the kid in red! It sets off all the other purple and makes it more beautiful.
I mean it is a music video :) It's a video, with music in it.
If you make it into a full video, why not put it proper widescreen...?
Anyone who knows who OkGo is…knows all of this lol
Is God ashamed? Well, as I read Genesis 1, God not only delighted in his creation, but also in his act of creating good things, and he created man in his image (to also create). Is there a band arrangement for sale? I’m a high school band director. 🎵🤓
Why is this vertical?
WHY IS IT VERTICAL
For legal reasons, obviously. 😂
One sin doesn't absolve someone else from sinning. As Solzhenitsyn says, the line between good and evil runs through every human heart.
Even priests.
Shot vertically? Lovely. NOT!
Ceci n'est pas un clip video
God would be so fucking lame if this live musical video brought him shame
Make a song about hawk tuah fein
Brainrot has entered the chat 😬
Obscurest Vinyl already did that.
