@@Jenn_80 sure. I've only ever tried the one. It's Lamictal 200 mg. I'm not the only person with BPD who has had amazing results with this. It seems to be the consensus. Even with people on online review forums. I am 85-90% better on it. It helps me slow down and think before I react. The things that used to make me mad don't. I'm not so sensitive to perceived rejection or abandonment anymore. I'm not overly suspicious and paranoid. And if those thoughts do creep in I am able to shake them off easily.
It's nice to see dysthymia being mentioned in a video, as I feel like it's not as known as major depression (I certainly didn't before my diagnosis)... Even if it's just a couple seconds in the entire video, thank you
I never even heard the word "dysthymia" until just now (May 8). I would love to hear what that experience is like for you if you would like to share it 😊
Your explanations of the many Disorders is so clear, and thought-provoking. I can sit, listen, and learn from your videos, and they are easy to share, without walking on egg shells.
I have watched videos, read books, gone to therapist, psychiatrists, and YOU have given me the best description of these differences!!! Omg THANK YOU!!!! I am a dubscriber for life.
Wow, Dr. G! I wish I got to have you for my abnormal psychology course. The prof I had was also amazing, but there’s just something about your lecturing style that is very organically captivating! Thank you for your insight, compassion, and knowledge!
Thank you! I have Borderline PD, Dysthymia, and Major Depressive Disorder. People in general don’t understand there’s a difference between the first one and the other two.
Just want to say thank you!!! I'm on here just trying to understand these differences 😂 my 11-year-old has been diagnosed with an emotional disability at school. I thought she had a learning disorder which created her emotional situation. However after months of evaluation by 6 people it was decided it was an emotional disorder.
Hi Dr. G. What do you think Alex Murdaugh is? Personality disorder and what combination? love to hear your views on what caused him to do all he's done. thanks
GAD is essentially when people experience uncomfortable levels of anxiety that aren't necessarily attached to anything. Just generally feeling anxious and unsettled. It can be about something specific, but it often goes from one thing to another. It doesn't mean someone is anxious 100% of the time, but their baseline is to be anxious or worried about something!
@@angelapepple9901 It depends. OCD tends to be more related to magical thinking. If I don't do a certain behavior, something bad might happen. Or obsessive thought that intrude. GAD is different in that it is just more like a nebulous feeling of anxiety. That being said, people with OCD can definitely also have GAD.
I would love for you to analyze me. Maybe you could come up with an actual diagnosis. Doctors have never seemed to be able to figure me out. I’ve had them go from BPD to Antisocial personality disorder (the real one) one said. Everything feels like a void and I always have to mask (showing how I think I should feel) I have traits of narcissistic personality disorder minus thinking I’m better than anyone and with the antisocial personality disorder, I’ve never harmed an animal in my life. I definitely use people and only have empathy towards people I care about but that’s even limited. As far as suicidal thoughts, I’ve always said that if I’m feeling suicidal I turn it to homicidal thoughts.
Oh I like my German psychiatrist or whatever,he is good and I am good too ..he pushes buttons and I do the same so i think we are doing fine,we talk more without talking and I like that
I have so many questions for you! I have Asperger’s/ASP and psychology is one of my specialized interests. Do you know anything about hormonal related mood issues from PMDD? Do you know much about adult female autism? I’m 40 and was only diagnosed 3 years ago and have a partner of 15 years (a saint) but can’t get along with females. My mom is a narcissist and my dad was autistic with savant skills but addiction overshadowed it. Is it hereditary? My mood has went from always happy to suddenly down since I turned 40. Is this hormonal? By biggest question is what’s the difference between a psychopath and a sociopath? I was diagnosed with both in the 90s because teen girls didn’t have Asperger’s apparently, even though I deep empathy for animals, children and the elderly. I know I wasn’t a psycho or bipolar or borderline but I scored an 89 on the Asperger’s Quotient and ADHD test so I finally found my actual issue. Autism fit 99.9%
I actually know quite a lot about autism. Many years ago, I conducted autism evaluations and I still work with Asperger/ASD adults sometimes (but it isn't my specialty). Just wanted to let you know, I've read your comments and I will get back to you on the answers to those soon. Thanks!

I find that many people are seeing psychiatrists and are given anti-depressants for disorders that could be completely resolved by correcting vitamin, mineral, and/or iron deficiencies that can be identified through blood tests given by a hematologist. What are your thoughts regarding pretreatment bloodwork? Wouldn’t it be easier to treat a patient if their vitamins, minerals, and iron levels are normal? Maybe all their mood disorders would go away.
@@maartjegoede9330 I agree, it doesn't feel good at all. I can deal, to an extent, with all my other negative emotions, but anger is the one I completely shy away from.

Is a personality disorder genetic?
The research seems to conclude that they are indeed largely genetic! A very surprising find that, I'm certain, not all psychologists agree with.
