Just come across your videos and i am so glad! The big hand and little hand ❤ I had been finding some other videos on dyeing a bit unrelaxing to watch, overedited with jingly stock music. The summery floaty natural vibes of your videos are so delightful 😊
Thank you. Do you mean if you don’t have a steamer? You can just use a pot with a lid and place a something I. The pot to keep your fiber out of the water 😊
I've just binged almost all of your videos! Thank you for putting so much care into these pieces + sharing your knowledge. I can't wait to start dyeing.
i love your work. this is the first time i'm making a comment on a you tub channel. but i love your videos so much! I love natural dyeing and I'm learning so much from your channel. thank you!
I love how natural the videos and how you are including your adorable daughter in the learning creative, meditative process. A double gift. Thanks for sharing. I am hoping to try this technique on paper.
I live on the Laguna Indian Reservation in NM for 14 years... There wildflower petals (along with corn pollen and prayer meal) were used to attract deer when hunting... They were sprinkled in the campfire while saying prayers to attract the deer to the hunters... The last time I went hunting and I did this, it attracted a HUGE herd of elk during the night which came right up to the tent...
@@billynou No... It wasn't elk season... the ONLY reason I was even hunting deer is because my son wanted to participate in the village Deer Dance on Christmas Eve and needed the antlers... Of course NOTHING went to waste...
Was the fabric scoured and mordanted first or did you just use vinegar? Do you also have any videos or information on how you clean the fabrics? I've read that I need to machine wash at 90 degrees then boil in a pan with detergent and soda... would you bother
Hey 😊 yes the fabric has been scoured and mordanted. Depending what fiber you’re using depends on how to pretreat it... sometimes I don’t mordant silk for example. I have a few ebooks available bellow the video or from my website with a bit more info if you’re interested. ❤️
@@billynou thank you, we did indeed, still lots to learn however, im loving all your videos btw, please keep making them.. if you are able would love to see something done with silk xx
Just discovered your delightful video. So inspiring, I’m just starting out on trying flowers for natural dying so been collecting hibiscus flowers as they finish. Our poppies are all over now. so will wait for next yr. already collected some red Rose petals. My daughter teaches and intending to do this with her children was so delightful to see your little helper enjoying the process too.
Just an hour or so or until you see a nice amount of colours seeping into the fiber. I do have a couple of ebooks available below the videos with some written info if you think that might be helpful to you 😉💗
She IS magical 😆 protein fibers like silk and wool tend to take the colours the easiest but any natural fiber will work with a little help in the form of a mordant 🌱🌹
Oh really that is interesting... it’s pretty much over now here as it’s getting too hot for them. It seemed like it went on for ever this year and they were absolutely everywhere, I’ve never seen so many. 🌹🌹🌸🌺🥀🥀🌺💐
This is an amazing channel! Thank you so much for your energy. All the love is amazingly transmitted through your videos. And of course, what an amazing job natural dying. I'll start doing it soon. Wish me luck! Thank you again and all the best of the energies for all of you from Argentina!
Hello, thank you so much for your amazing video. I just have a question, you mentioned, that you soaked your fabrics overnight after steaming, did you soak them just in water? 😊
Hey. Black is quite a difficult colour to achieve in the natural dye world. It tends to take a few layers of colours to get a dark colour that is often not a true black. Some dyes used are often black walnut and logwood with an iron mordant. 🖤🖤
You can see all the things I make on my Instagram @billynouapparel and my website Billynou.com. I also have a video on how to make scrunchies which I make a lot of with the bundle dyed fabric 😊
would you say it gives a better color with dried flowers / vegetables / herbs or with fresh ones or is there no difference? thank you for the inspiration!
I would say there are always going to be unmeasurable differences resulting in varying shades and results ... it’s definitely best to experiment and see what you like best ... sometimes I prefer the results I get with dried and others with fresh and sometimes you can use fresh or dried twice and still get different results. It’s always a bit of a surprise and this is why I love it 🦄

Either works fine and I also sometimes just dunk it or pour a glug of vinegar over it after I’ve rolled it up. Totally up to you and what you prefer doing 😊
Love you videos and process! What do you soak the bundles in over night? Or do u just leave them wet and bundles from the steaming and open next day? Thanks!
I am truly in love with all of your videos - thank you so much for these. I would love to see a video of other recommended flowers that work for example.. calendula? Thank you again!
You can use either, flowers will often behave differently fresh or dried , some work just as well and others don’t... just experiment and you will soon figure out which ones work best for you! 🌹
As always, love your videos :)) is it possible to bundle die something like a pre-made dress successfully? I have a 100% cotton dress that I want to bundle dye with cochineal, lockwood, indigo, and turmeric. Not certain if the dyes will release to both the front and back of the dress if i lay it on the top of the fabric like a typical bundle dye, or if it’s better to place the dyes between the two pieces of fabric in the middle of the dress so the colors soak to both sides?
Hellooo. Yes it is definitely possible to dye a pre made dress... the process is exactly the same as if it was just a piece of fabric. Because you roll the fabric when bundle dyeing you do get colours on both sides but you can always just chuck some in the middle to be safe 😉 I would definitely mordant your dress before dyeing as it’s cotton though 💗
I love your videos! I just found your channel yesterday and binge watched all your videos. Very relaxing and calming. :) I want to try some natural dying for my clothing brand! I can't get enough of these videos keep up the awesome content!
It’s so, so awesome! I love this video 😍🙏💚 and I immediately collected a basket full of flowers to do this bundle dyeing with my two little girls this afternoon 😊

I had some really RUSTY nails around the place, I did a bit of a happy skip dance when I realised how rusty they were 😃 I am going to give this method a go while the iron water brews. I was wondering if 'double strength' vinegar is ok to use, or does it need to be 'normal strength'? That E-book is so far amazing - I am up to about page 5 I think. Thank you for putting this together. New subbie from Aus.

Love your little helper. She is adorable. I was wondering if you used vinegar also for making the color say. I know that normally we start with some kind of fixing agent. Did you use that and if so, what is it?
Haha yes she is the best!! Vinegar isn’t really a fixer but yes I do mordant my fibers, usually with alum or alum acetate depending if the fiber is cellulose or protein 😊
Hi. It all depends on what fabric you use and how you pretreat and care for your fabrics after dyeing. The colours will never stay like synthetic dyes. They are likely to change or fade over time but this is really an opportunity to see colour and our clothes with a different perspective and to enjoy the life of the colours.
What kind of fabric are you using? Cotton, linen? Silk? Really want to try this since we are in summer and plants and blossoms are abundant. Do you fix the dyes somehow? How to wash?
I’m using bamboo fiber. Try it with silk first as it takes the dyes easily without having to mordant and you won’t be disappointed with the results. I always hand wash with cool water and ph neutral soaps. I have a little ebook available too if you want a bit more written info on the process 💕💕
There are so many types of fabric you could use and all will have different results, each with their individual qualities .... anything natural is worth giving a go and animal fibers like wool and silk will tend to take the colours more readily 💗💗
