  • I'm not fond of the word "influencer". I know it means very little and, that really it's only a word but, when it is suggested that I may be an "influencer"...I feel myself recoil. I don't like the thought of me influencing anyone to do anything. I would consider myself more a suggester if there's such a thing?!
Suggester...influencer...call it what you will. There are those of us out there, giving our feelings on products. In this case whisky. And, although I do it...it is to the my peers and, to you (the whisky community) that I turn when wondering what to buy next.
"Where is this going?" you may ask. Well it's all about this Bunnahabhain 12 CS. Sometimes a bottle comes along, that is so highly recommended, I won't sit idly by and think "ah I'll get it some other time!" Indeed, I didn't even have this bottle in this series when the series started. As soon as bought and tried it though...I knew it had to go in.
    Enjoy.

I've never bought the same bottle twice. After 3 drams of this i bought 2 more bottles straight away. The richest caramel and toffee notes I've ever tasted in a whisky. My wheelhouse is ex-bourbon, but this is an excellent bottle.

Thanks for reviewing this ...béééép... whisky, Jim.
Though I find myself turning away from sherry matured whiskies more and more, Bunnahabhain (mostly) still stands tall, so curious what your pick would be in the 'if you like this... then try this' section ...
... but that one didn't do it for me: too winey. So yes, I personally understand why it is still available.

A couple of buddies and I split a bottle of this as I, much the same as you I think, find the 12yo just good….
This cask strength blew my freaking mind. So so much flavour cask and distillate I feel work really well together without being out of check. I like a dash of water in it myself but however it’s taken its phenomenal stuff. Favourite of the year!! (So far) cheers. 🥃

CRAP! Another Islay whisky I have to collect!
Honestly, I wasn't ready for the 46.3% early in my journey. Now that I went back to the same decanted bottle, (all the recent hype about this CS got me interested) I get so much nuance on the palate that I didn't get at first.
I have no doubt that many people find the standard to be a real "dessert Island, only one bottle" type of malt.
The CS is not a bad value, independent bottles show up here much higher with less age. Hard times.
Doesn't it seem that a 46% dram is really not enough. I'll add a single drop of water and the flavors are there, but much more and it loses something. But @ CS , you can go neat, one drop or Ralfy style and it's all good.
I hope they keep doing both versions, and peat too. I've really grown to appreciate Bunnahabhain a lot more. Would love to try the unpeated fully bourbon matured.

Most have given the nod to the 22 version over the 1st Ed 2021. Even claiming that it’s harder to find. That said. People say that the comparison nod to the 22 version could be due to a better neck pour from it. Later on the 21 is probably better. That’s a thought that’s floating out there. In my case I have the opportunity to locally buy a 2021 and online version of the 2022. Or… two of one kind. I’m tempted to get two of the 2022.
Decisions , decisions. Btw both @$90.
Speaking of value from 12 yr cask strengths, I had bought 2 of the somewhat of a unicorn 12 yr Springbank back in 2019 for @90 each. Ran into one in 2022 while traveling but this time closer to $200. I had to pass. Love that bottle but I agree. Too much for any 12 yr old. Similar thing to Bladnoch 10. For me it was the best 10 yr I’ve ever had. Bought 4 bottles at $50 ea. Recently found one online for @ $110. Had to pass. Grudgingly.
