    Thanks for the complete review, as always very detailed and complete! :) I'll probably go for the Tamron, I don't see this many advantages in the added weight and bulk, and since I already own the 24-70 G2, 100-400 and the Tap-in console, I won't have to buy any new accessories if I go with the Tamron. I really think that with this many options of great lenses at more affordable prices, it's easier than ever to build a good lens collection in this day and age.

    Dustin, what a great review sir! Very detailed and informative as always, LOVE your reviews. That snow in the background is so soothing :) I already own the tamron 70-200 G2 and use it primarily for landscape which left me with very pleasing images from my recent trip into cold -15 regions near the mountains. I most likely will still get the sigma 70-200 2.8 sport maybe bit later because I am a darn sigma addict already can't help it (the wife loves sigma too, esp the 105! haha). I was very pleased to hear about the focus breathing, 200mm performance and other minor great things about it. I guess there is nothing too bad about owning two 70-200 2.8 lenses...maybe I can get the wife finally into some photography and give her the tamron hah. I think I need to test this sigma in person before I consider buying it just like how I always do; test in person, evaluate images, go home and have a nice cup of tea thinking about it and then end up buying it darn it! Anyhow I've been following you for a long time now and my lens collection grew with wise decisions I made thanks to you so thank you.

    Hi Mister Abott,
    At first, you're so easy to reed on your website, easy to anderstand and fellow on video. :)
    I live in France, between Bordeaux and Cognac. I read your reviews for a while, Every time great reviews ! At first, it semes that you are an human person, in the good way.
    Yesterday I bought the Sigma in Nikon mount (D750), my reseller sell of the Tamron ad bad price and don't have any Nikon mont fort test : business for rules, newer is better, burning what we loved yesterday...
    Till today, I use an old 80-200-D-AFD : there is nothing to compare with the Sigma : resolution at f2,8, loca, AF speed, accuracy and stabilisation (1/15s at 200mm/standard is ok in kitchen at night, under ambiant light). Whoaw it's amazing ! I suspected it had progressed but not so much.
    The Sigma t's heavy, more than my old 80-200 AFD Nikkor lens. Not especialy feel heavier in the first time, but i think I should do some muscles exercices... I confirm that tripod collar is too much when you do not need it... Building quality is outstanding, it smells indestructible and infinitesimal finish détails are great.
    The lens out of the box ont the D750 seems to give excellent sharpness results all along the range at f2.8. Stopping down, it's ultra razor shape. No or almost mechanical noise, AF speed is ok on a motobicycle or cars roling in town at 6 m (+/- 18 feet/200mm). Bokeh is smooth, color rendering is well ballenced (concrete blocks wall dont pull à bit magenta like your test), good contrast even at F2,8 for a good relief rendering.
    I will buy the usb dock for setting C1/C2 and barrel button at first time. For the moment i'm very happy with this new lens.
    Thanks mister Abbott for the big job you've done for us with this lens (and all the other lens).
    PS : excuse me for my scholastic english, i lack some practice... :)

Now, I am almost certainly going to buy the 70-200mm Sigma Sport f/2.8. I only have one slight reservation, weight! • @DustinAbbottTWI
      @DustinAbbottTWI  5 лет назад +3

    Dustin, you’ve certainly become my (and many others) GOTO SOURCE for lens reviews. Greatly appreciate the depth and work you put into these reviews. I’ve owned a Tamron 70-200 VC since it came out in ‘12 (I believe). Great lens for my high school sports - basketball, football and (nighttime Lacrosse). As I generally shoot at 200mm, focus breathing isn’t an issue at the distances I shoot at. Focus speed on the other hand, is at times. I use a Canon 7D MK II for sports and a 6D for everything else. I have a few global series Sigmas and love them - even my 18-35 1.8 WHEN it wants to focus correctly! 😉 I use a sling and never a monopod on the sidelines as you miss too many shots. I PAY for lugging the weight around - CHIROPRACTOR! As much as I’d love to give a go with the new SIG, the weight scares me. Two questions - how does the focus speed compare with the Tamron G2 and subsequently compared to my VC G1? Lastly, are either aforementioned lenses enough to have me dump my pristine G1 (at a huge loss) on EBay in lieu of either? Thanks Rev!

    • @DustinAbbottTWI
      @DustinAbbottTWI  5 лет назад

      I would say that G2 is probably the faster in an absolute sense, but by a very, very small margin. It’s focus performance is very close to the speed of Canon

    First off great video! What are your thoughts on buying a lens for a newer photographer when trying to decide between the Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 EX DG OS HSM vs. Sigma 70-200mm f2.8 sport. My wife plans to use it primarily for video footage of our son playing lacrosse, but plans to use it for photos as well. The price point difference between the two appears to be around $600 to $800. Based on my research the sport has weather sealing and 11 aperture blades vs 9 blades on the EX, along with some other minor differences (lens length and diameter). Wondering if it makes sense to spend the extra money on the sport version as it would be primarily for sports. We plan on pairing it with a Canon EOS R10. Thanks for your input in advance!

    • @DustinAbbottTWI
      @DustinAbbottTWI  Год назад

      If you plan to use it in a high speed tracking situation, going for the Sport lens probably makes sense. Weather sealing is important, yes, but probably more important is the focus speed.

    Great video as always, Dustin. I have the EOS R and the announced RF 70-200 really excites me with how lightweight and compact it is. However; I’m afraid it’s going to be ludicrously expensive like the Sony 70-200 or Nikon 70-200. Best to buy one of these and adapt it or wait and see what happens? How do you think adapting a Sigma with the Canon EF to RF adapter would perform?

    • @DustinAbbottTWI
      @DustinAbbottTWI  5 лет назад

      I think the RF lens will be excellent, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it is very expensive. The Sigma should adapt perfectly, though obviously the balance wont be great with such a heavy lens.

      1. Tamron + MC-11 = 1720 g and Sigma = 1805+220 =2025 !!!.
      Uff...
      2. Is MC-11 sealed - I guess NO.
      3. Extra console for firmware upgrade in both cases ( 28-70 goes via Sony body)
      My hope is that Tamron for Sony will come.
      Lighter, cheaper in total, smaller, better AF ...

      Not much different. They are both very fast, and I don't think that is really a distinguishing factor between the two.

    Which one would be your preference? The Canon 70 to 200 F2.8 L Series version 2 or the Sigma Sport 70-200? Because right now they're pretty much in the same price range if I got the Canon used in mint condition... the reason I ask is because when I was researching the 24-70 s and this category the sigma was showing a lot of softness compared to the Canon. Right now I'm shooting on the Canon EOS R with a couple prime lenses can the 24 to 105 F4.. I would love to be able to get the RF lenses but they are just too far out of my budget. I work full-time as a manager and do photography on the side for the time being. I just built my own home studio and have spent quite a bit of money. My goal is to pick up a 24-70 and a 70-200 for around $2,000 for both even if they're used.. on Adorama I can get Mint Condition used lenses in the Canon brand L series or I can get the new Sigma for both lenses for around $2,200 for each set. I'm torn because the Canon Glassell series is great but coming from a Canon 80d and using the sigma art 1835 and the 50 to 100 I really like the Sigma Art stuff.. but when I watch RUclips videos like I said I keep seeing softness in the Sigma lenses for the full frame compared to the Canon. I just wondered what your take is on this. Because I do value your opinion

    • @DustinAbbottTWI
      @DustinAbbottTWI  4 года назад

      Working with your numbers, I would probably go with the Canon options. The Canon 24-70 is definitely better, and the 70-200 Sport (while excellent) is bigger and heavier than the Canon version.

    • @DustinAbbottTWI
      @DustinAbbottTWI  5 лет назад +3

      If money is no object (and weight is), then I would probably go with the Canon. If money is a factor at all, the Sigma is going to give fairly equal performance (slightly better at some focal lengths)

    Hey Dustin I’m considering this lens vs the Tamron G2. If image quality is the top priority would you say the sigma edges out the tamron. Also if I consider buying a 2x teleconvert which combo would work best (canon, sigma, or tamron). If u haven’t tested all the tc combos, theoretically would a tc & 70-200 combo be better than the sigma/tamron 150-600 image quality wise? I know focus wise it will take a hit. Also apparently the sigma 150-600 contemporary is better than the sport version and tamron g2 version.

    • @DustinAbbottTWI
      @DustinAbbottTWI  2 года назад

      I would say that the Sigma is very slightly better than the G2, yes. I haven't tested many of the 2x TCs (I'm often not a fan), but I would definitely say you would see better focus results with a bare lens (like the 150-600) than using a 2x TC.

      I would definitely recommend the Tamron 28-75 for your Sony. It works so much better than the 24-70 adapted. Tamron has just announced a 17-28mm F2.8 wide angle zoom for Sony, too, with signs pointing to a 70-200 (or something like that) before the year is out. That’s the route I would personally go.

    Hey Dustin. I stumbled across your Channel doing some research on the Canon EOS R awhile back. I actually had purchased the camera and wanted to see what people had to say about it. I really like the the camera itself. Right now I'm using the magic drain pipe and I'm trying to find the best affordable 70 to 200 lens. On a de ramas website I can buy either this lens new or a used version 2 Canon. So it's still a toss-up. I actually saw some side-by-side images of the 24-70 s and the sigma was significantly softer which I found to be odd. When I was shooting crop sensor I shot a lot of Sigma Art and they were great. So before I go spending another couple thousand dollars I just wanted to do some more research. Also that's a really nice AR. Is that one of your custom built? I actually started on RUclips with a firearm Channel about 2 years ago. But with RUclips's policies I've kind of backed out of uploading content because they keep taking down videos and we're all demonetized. But I did a custom build that looks similar to that one using a Seekins Precision lower.. and I won't let the Geissele 3 gun trigger instead of the CMMG. I absolutely love the Geissele triggers. Anyways good luck on your channel and thank you for all the great content you provide.

Or is the fact that the Sigma gets better quality with the 1.4 converter more important than I think that is comparable to the 1.5 Crop of the Nikon?
