You can if you weigh, I would say, 150 pounds or less. Lying down is better as your whole upper body weight isn't directly over it. For example, lying on your back with the pad placed under your lumbar spine or upper back area.

Yes, it does. The infrared LEDs generate radiant heat; the red light generates therapeutic light in the healing wavelength.

setting #1 gives heat, setting #2 not so much, and setting #3 (infrared) give some heat. Be ready to remove it if it gets too hot.
