    Great list! 2023 was such a strong year for games it's ridiculous. I can't wait to see what comes out this year that will surprise everyone.

    Jack, your down to earth reviews are so refreshing, thank you for amazing content in 2023.
    I look forward to your takes on games as your thoughts are always sincere and relatable. This is a great top 10.
    Have you played Hegemony?

    • @TheCardboardHerald
      @TheCardboardHerald  9 месяцев назад

      Hey, thank you so much for saying so; that really means a lot! Honestly, no, I haven't played Hegemony yet. That was one of the games I most wanted to get played at PAX Unplugged 2023 but didn't find an opportunity. I'll be at our local Alaskan Platypus Con here in a couple weeks and hope to get my hands on it. It looks spectacular.

      It's been a great year, though right around the corner we have ARCS and Harvest and a few Knizia releases, ahhhhh I cannot wait!

    Just discovered your channel and i really like your takes. Especially appreciate that you don't use a lot of the same trendy verbage that other board game content creators are. 😂

      Hey, thank you so much. I try to just talk as I would in real life, and maybe I just don't know the trendy language the hip RUclipsrs are using :D

    I am really glad Uprising came out. I’d been avoiding original DI because it sounded like the expansions (one or both) were kind of necessary to “fix” the game.

    • @TheCardboardHerald
      @TheCardboardHerald  9 месяцев назад

      I don't know that they needed to fix the game, base Dune Imperium was strong as is, but Uprising is a definite improvement and stronger standalone.

    I had never heard of Sail, and it feels like I would really enjoy it for all the same reasons that you did! (Also not great at the trick takings.) In the realm of 2p coop games, I’ve had my eye firmly on Sky Team recently. Do you think there are similarities between the two apart from both being 2p coops?

    • @TheCardboardHerald
      @TheCardboardHerald  9 месяцев назад

      To be honest I haven't played Skyteam, though it's on my list. From what I understand of the game, Sail is a bit more cerebral, which is something I like. Very easy to pick up, but has this really great (horrific) apprehension with every card played, but when you get in a groove it feels phenomenal.

    Oh Yeah. TWC has a huge amount of game in such a small box. And, a lot of variability such that each game is different, sometimes a lot different.
    Also enjoying EBR. Playing it now. Really enjoyed Kinfire Chronicles too.

      It just keeps getting better and better for me. Did you dig other Devir games like 3 Ring Circus? There's another one of theirs on the horizon that looks cool, too. Salton Sea

      @@TheCardboardHerald I don't have 3RC, but will check it out. Will keep Salton Sea in mind too. Thanks! So many games.... so little time! Just got my copy of Unsettled today. I think I'm gonna play it next. I'd heard great things about it and backed the latest KS.

      @@TheCardboardHerald Oh! Yeah. Easily my Number 1, blasting right to the front in 6th gear, Thunder Road Vendetta!! I learned about the 1986 original from a friend in university in the early 2000's. I was one of the thousands that eagerly awaited the day Restoration Games would have enough clout for Hasbro to cave and allow them to do a restoration. I backed the game, all in one day one (twice...iykyk). I excitedly followed updates, and thrilled when a giant box arrived on my doorstep. But I knew that the end product was up against an impossible situation. Two DECADES of anticipation, dreams, hopes and wishes.
      And then, nervously, I played my first game.
      And it exceeded everything I imagined! It is hilarious, chaotic, accessible, colourful, light strategy, fast, highly interactive. I've played it a bunch this year, and every game is filled with laughter.
      Over the summer I started working in a board game store. I wrote a bit about TRV for their newsletter/FB. A month later, a customer walked into the store, pointed at me and said "Thunder Road guy!!" He bought the game as a birthday gift for a friend, they had played it the evening of the birthday, and he was back to buy himself a copy.
