@@High_Tech_Priest They are often considered a nuisance to fishers because they appear to create competition. But it's really man-made problems that create fish shortages, not the seals. Also, there is a seal hunting season in Namibia. Seal harvesting in Namibia targets approx 86,000 seal pups and 8,000 adult bulls per year. Trusting humans and their ships and harbors make them easy targets. Also having full grown seals who are interested in humans can be a nuisance issue and may lead to more people being inclined to interact with them. And you irritate wild animals enough they will eventually start being hostile to some people. They can be extremely territorial, especially when it comes to their babies. It's better to leave all wild animals alone unless you are a rehabilitator or are doing rescue work.

We scan the different groups of Cape fur seals with binoculars from far away, looking for imperfections in their fur.
This is a skill we wish we never had to develop, but we are unfortunately very experienced by now.
In addition to OP's reply, cameras often don't capture the same perspective as our eyes do, and/or take careful and learned positioning to capture whatever "perfect look" that our eyes just saw. Our brain has 2 perspectives to work with, versus the camera's one.

Kept thinking the same to. What if it came across a predator instead of a nice human being? It is still young so there is time
@fak series They are fools, they can't tell. What likely happened is the pups mom died and it was hungry, it was on the skinny side. It was attracted to the nets shape (designed to house a seal, it has a similar shape, they do not have great eyesight) and then just followed the people. If you take a look at the beach it's littered in dead pups and adult seals. As sad as it is, this is perfectly normal and one of natures ways of keeping population numbers down.
@fak series some animals can tell the difference.

Kinda reminds me of my dog. Short snout with a cute little nose, an awkward waddling walk, the vacant look in the eyes… I can see why seals are known as the sea’s version of dogs.

@@High_Tech_Priest It’s the world we live in 🤷🏾♀️. Evil just has no logic to it, it’s there to simply destroy.
