I thought about doing that exact thing. We used a 25m zero back when I was in the military that was good from 25m to 300+m so I agree with that also. The reason I decided not to replace the scope and just use the Tech sights is that we are getting more and more coyotes around where I live. I find it much easier to shoot them at night using the scope with a Lumenshooter A10 light mounted to the top of the scope. The setup works well for that purpose. I love peep sights though. I have them on the Garand, the M1 Carbine, and a set of Skinners on the Henry .22 WMR.
I've been thinking. The Lumenshooter A10 light is bright enough that I may be able to remove the scope and replace the factory rear sight with the Tech sight. Perhaps Santa will leave one in my stocking.
“…tHe MiNi iZ sO iNnACcUrAtE!” -Dombass 🤡🤡 It’s almost always the shooter, not the rifle that can’t hit a target. As the saying goes “…a poor craftsman blames his tools.” Nice seeing *any* Mini shown in a positive light in regard to accuracy. Maybe do a 580-Series Mini-30 video next?
Actually I have to finish the video on the Mini-14 in 5.56 first. I changed out the original wood you saw in this video to the factory option Samson MFG folding stock. I gotta say I really like it. I need to run a zero check in the next week or so when I finish this batch of ammo to see how it groups with the 855 green tips.
The originals were, newer ones ar a lot more accurate, I've shot both had noticeable accuracy issues on some on the older model but the newer one was a complete tack driver.
@@guntotingnerd8830 oh yeah, I make no excuses for the pre-580 series Mini-14/30. After the re-tooling, you’re correct, damn accurate for what it is. Just tired of folks who’ve only ever shot ARs talking so much shit about a platform they’ve never tried. As a car geek, to me, the AR is a decent car with an automatic. Fun to shoot, easy to operate. The Mini is that same car, but with a stick. A little more of a challenge, but once you figure it out, easy peasy.
No problem. That whole black plastic top piece just pops on and off. No tools required. I never even though about popping it off and leaving it that way but it's easy enough to do I suppose.
Choate Machine and tool makes better handguard of a glass filled nylon material that is a far better option than that handguard. I have one on my mini-30. You can get a full handgrip on the fore end.
Take the scope off and get yourself some tech-sights.
Then go to the range and get your battle site zero at 25 m
That’s how that gun should roll

Is that the 5801 or 5816?
It's the 5.56 version 580-1

@DJ_253 I view them as a little more antiquated, and lacking the market support that the ar or ak has. So basically a manual yeah.
@DJ_253 don't get me wrong though they're excellent self defense and varmint getters. Just don't try to press it into a main fighting rifle role
I do not like the chastity guard on the charging rod. Most men open hand the firearm ala marines
It's very easy to pop off if that's your preference.
@@hiddenacresoutdoors-gunshu838 thanks
