need some advice please bro, there is a ps5 disc edition, apprently with a faulty disc drive not much other info,going for about $240, they say its in full working order as digital, so I am just wondering if its worth the buy?

Hello, only comment is at 15:20 when putting the disc drive back together, the top left white gear should have a white knobby thing poking through which is from the side plastic sliding gear. , in the video yours does not have this so I don’t think is properly aligned or gear positioned correctly . I aligned the exact same way as your video (no white knob), but ps5 would not accept my disc. After looking at pictures on another site, I realized the error and corrected.

Hey this tutorial was super easy to follow and very helpful 🙏 I just had a quick question. How can I tell whether or not I need to replace the whole disk drive, or just replace the laser? I don't want to buy the disc drive if it's just the laser, but I also don't want to just buy the laser if it's the whole disc drive that's busted 🤷♀
If the drive accepts the disc but it spins and stops you can replace just the laser. Hope that helps. Good luck and if you need a laser we sell them (check the top comment) with lifetime warranty and free shipping

Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act of 1975 requires that electronics can be opened without voiding the warranty, regardless of what the warranty says, so warranty stickers are unenforcable and you cannot deny a warranty due to the state of any warranty sticker.

If you want to risk fines of 40K+ per incident, then that is on you. I doubt you have the resources neccisary to defend yourself if this came to your front door and fines of that nature probably ruin your business. I don't want to see that. You should figure out a different method to protect yourself from people sending back parts you did not sell. You can already deny warranty requests for a customer damaging something you sent them, you just can't do it with a warranty sticker. All-in-all, you do you and good luck, but you're asking for trouble.

My ps5 disc drive sounds like it wants to try and spin up a few times, but gives unreadable disc error. Won’t read ps5 or ps4 games, it a dvd movie played. Would you recommend I replace the laser? Cleaning it with alcohol did not help. Thanks!
@fasttechvideo yes. The original drive would not accept disc's. Couldn't put them in. Wasn't a reading issue. Replaced the drive followed video, now says can't recognize disc

Hi there, my PS5 was working fine until today. It stopped reading any disks. I've tried booting it in safe mode and rebuilding the database, but it seeks like a hardware problem as the disk drive is quite noisy when it tries to read the disk. Do you think I just need to replace the laser - or will i need to replace the whole drive? Thanks!

Mine is reading DVDs/Bluerays but at some point when they are playing, it'll start skipping, then the screen turns black for a long time before it pops up and says it cant read the disk..then once I try to turn the movie back on, it says it cant read the disk again or it wont even show that the drive has a disk in it. I can hear the drive moving and trying to work but its been an issue for a few months and its grtting worse. Wondering what exactly I need to buy to fix it? Thank you
@@simon-515 Interesting, I have not come across this issue yet. I would be willing to try to fix it if you can mail it in. Maybe your PS5 will be on RUclips who knows.
Make sure you retain the old disc drive logic board from your old drive and install it in the new one. You have not done this step that is why. I wish people paid attention to the video as I mentioned this step 3 times.

The board on my PS5 is a UHN-020 and I’ve got a spare disk drive that’s a UHN-010. Are they compatible or will I need to get a disk drive from a UHN-020?
I bought the laser lense assembly itself off eBay, put it in, and the ps5 went into safe mode and won't "update" just says error. Would getting it off of your website fix this issue?
@@fasttechvideo Thanks for your quick reply. I appreciate it. I have issues with a 1 year old PS5 where it shows the "Unreadable Disc" message after putting a disc in it. I opened it up and replaced the disc drive logic board and it's giving me the same issue. I checked that the disc drive was free of objects inside and it was clean as new. I assume the new board won't work because of this pairing situation. Sometimes I wonder if the original board won't work because it somehow might have gotten unpaired, because the original board looks brand new and it doesn't smell burnt at all. Maybe it got unpaired and now I have this issue. It's a shame a company like SONY doesn't give us a tool to pair boards. It's as if we didn't have a right to repair our products. So I just replaced it and the weirdest thing happened man. Watched your video went step by step but when I put my cover back on it, it doesn’t work at all… when I keep the cover off it does! I’m curious if it’s something I need to adjust in the screws that’s probably putting too much force to make the disk work??

I'm glad I found this video. I will definitely be buying that tool. My drive sometimes reads a disc and sometimes doesn't read. I can restart the system a random number of times and it recognizes the disc. I'm probably going to replace the laser.

The fan connector wouldn't come off of the off-white part when I tried to remove it. The off-white part came off too after trying for 15 minutes. Even now that it's broken off it still won't come out. I have to buy a new motherboard now don't I?

My 2 year old has been messing with it for months he finally won the battle won't read any disk made a weird noise when I turned it on today God knows what he did to it.
@CrownOnLoc so what I ended up doing I took the shells off and put like those big popsicle sticks cut it to size and held it with some 3m tape to cover the disk slot i put the shells back and they will hold the popsicle stick tight in place and voila now my 2 year old cant put nothing in there it works for me since I only play like one disk game I have a couple downloaded. I don't know why I didn't think of it the first time this was my 3rd time opening the ps5.

Yes you can just make sure the disc drive logic board is connected to the motherboard via the ribbon cable. The drive itself doesnt have to be in the system just the green PCB board that’s in it

Just because the ps5 slim came out doesn’t mean the existing systems will disappear. Also all of 1000 and 1100 series ps5s are out of warranty now so people will need this video. Thanks for your comment though.

need some advice please bro, there is a ps5 disc edition, apprently with a faulty disc drive not much other info,going for about $240, they say its in full working order as digital,
so I am just wondering if its worth the buy?

Hello, only comment is at 15:20 when putting the disc drive back together, the top left white gear should have a white knobby thing poking through which is from the side plastic sliding gear. , in the video yours does not have this so I don’t think is properly aligned or gear positioned correctly . I aligned the exact same way as your video (no white knob), but ps5 would not accept my disc. After looking at pictures on another site, I realized the error and corrected.

Hey this tutorial was super easy to follow and very helpful 🙏 I just had a quick question.
How can I tell whether or not I need to replace the whole disk drive, or just replace the laser?
I don't want to buy the disc drive if it's just the laser, but I also don't want to just buy the laser if it's the whole disc drive that's busted 🤷♀

Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act of 1975 requires that electronics can be opened without voiding the warranty, regardless of what the warranty says, so warranty stickers are unenforcable and you cannot deny a warranty due to the state of any warranty sticker.

@@fasttechvideo Yes, but all it takes is some bad reviews or someone with disposable income and is willing to pursue legal action to really screw you. If you want to risk fines of 40K+ per incident, then that is on you. I doubt you have the resources neccisary to defend yourself if this came to your front door and fines of that nature probably ruin your business. I don't want to see that. You should figure out a different method to protect yourself from people sending back parts you did not sell. You can already deny warranty requests for a customer damaging something you sent them, you just can't do it with a warranty sticker. All-in-all, you do you and good luck, but you're asking for trouble.

Yes making the decision to buy a new PS5 my current one is doing exactly this no disk symbol at the top of screen but spins disk once and stops

Hi there, my PS5 was working fine until today. It stopped reading any disks. I've tried booting it in safe mode and rebuilding the database, but it seeks like a hardware problem as the disk drive is quite noisy when it tries to read the disk. Do you think I just need to replace the laser - or will i need to replace the whole drive? Thanks!

Mine is reading DVDs/Bluerays but at some point when they are playing, it'll start skipping, then the screen turns black for a long time before it pops up and says it cant read the disk..then once I try to turn the movie back on, it says it cant read the disk again or it wont even show that the drive has a disk in it. I can hear the drive moving and trying to work but its been an issue for a few months and its grtting worse. Wondering what exactly I need to buy to fix it? Thank you
Replacing just the laser will fix your problem

Make sure you replace the logic board (daughter board) with your original. I had the same problem and this fixed it.
Make sure you retain the old disc drive logic board from your old drive and install it in the new one. You have not done this step that is why. I wish people paid attention to the video as I mentioned this step 3 times.

The board on my PS5 is a UHN-020 and I’ve got a spare disk drive that’s a UHN-010. Are they compatible or will I need to get a disk drive from a UHN-020?
They are not interchangeable
I bought the laser lense assembly itself off eBay, put it in, and the ps5 went into safe mode and won't "update" just says error. Would getting it off of your website fix this issue?
I dont think so. I think there is an SSD problem possibly. Try my safe mode video and see if that works.

No way to flash the board yet but I suspect all it would take would be to de solder a chip off the old one and install it on to a replacement board.

I have issues with a 1 year old PS5 where it shows the "Unreadable Disc" message after putting a disc in it. I opened it up and replaced the disc drive logic board and it's giving me the same issue. I checked that the disc drive was free of objects inside and it was clean as new.
I assume the new board won't work because of this pairing situation.
Sometimes I wonder if the original board won't work because it somehow might have gotten unpaired, because the original board looks brand new and it doesn't smell burnt at all.
Maybe it got unpaired and now I have this issue.
It's a shame a company like SONY doesn't give us a tool to pair boards. It's as if we didn't have a right to repair our products.
I don't think they'll another dollar from me ever again.

So I just replaced it and the weirdest thing happened man. Watched your video went step by step but when I put my cover back on it, it doesn’t work at all… when I keep the cover off it does! I’m curious if it’s something I need to adjust in the screws that’s probably putting too much force to make the disk work??

Yes you need it for disassembly of the console
If your drive is accepting the disc normally but not spinning then you just need a laser

@@ShawnHellwege saw your video, its a bad laser. First try cleaning it with alcohol. If it doesn’t work you need to replace it.

I'm glad I found this video. I will definitely be buying that tool. My drive sometimes reads a disc and sometimes doesn't read. I can restart the system a random number of times and it recognizes the disc. I'm probably going to replace the laser.

The fan connector wouldn't come off of the off-white part when I tried to remove it. The off-white part came off too after trying for 15 minutes. Even now that it's broken off it still won't come out. I have to buy a new motherboard now don't I?
It can be soldered back on but the difficulty level depends on if traces have been ripped off.

My 2 year old has been messing with it for months he finally won the battle won't read any disk made a weird noise when I turned it on today God knows what he did to it.
He probably stuck objects in it
Literally here now because my toddler has been putting paper in my disc drive
@CrownOnLoc so what I ended up doing I took the shells off and put like those big popsicle sticks cut it to size and held it with some 3m tape to cover the disk slot i put the shells back and they will hold the popsicle stick tight in place and voila now my 2 year old cant put nothing in there it works for me since I only play like one disk game I have a couple downloaded. I don't know why I didn't think of it the first time this was my 3rd time opening the ps5.

Does it spin consistently or spins and stops?

Yes you can just make sure the disc drive logic board is connected to the motherboard via the ribbon cable. The drive itself doesnt have to be in the system just the green PCB board that’s in it

Check the ribbon cables. If they are plugged in as they should be, you could have a problem with the Disc Drive logic board.

Just because the ps5 slim came out doesn’t mean the existing systems will disappear. Also all of 1000 and 1100 series ps5s are out of warranty now so people will need this video. Thanks for your comment though.
