    As a Ghanaian I have watched with complete shock where tourists come to Ghana and get fufu without the locals giving them any instructions or pointers as to how the food is eaten so you will find people fumbling with the food and not knowing exactly how to enjoy it.
    Fufu as opposed to a majority of the food in the world is meant to be swallowed after it is dipped or whipped together with the soup around it.
    Fufu is NEVER meant to be chewed, and that is what I noticed most tourists do at the watchful eyes of their Ghanaian hosts who just look at them as they struggle with the food.
    Once again dear tourists, fufu is meant to be swallowed and not chewed.
    This is my first time on your channel and I think you did a great job as a solo traveller Emily.

      Nonsense. She could easily have searched that on the internet. And trying to instruct people on how to eat is kinda rude, it's better to just leave her to eat however she wants.

      Was looking for this. It is nice to have some guidance. You get the feel for how the food should be eaten.

    • @Yamezzzz
      @Yamezzzz 4 месяца назад +1

      It's considered rude by most people in the world to try and instruct a guest on the way they should eat the food.
      Saying you shouldn't chew something isn't very normal or widespread. If the person shows interest in asking if there is a traditional or cultural way to eat it, then of course. It can also be mentioned in conversation, but not instructed. "Not know how to enjoy it" ?!?! I can assure you, people know themselves which way of swallowing they will enjoy.
      Reminds me a little of when I visited a friend's family in Denmark who treated me to lovely smørrebrød - and despite enjoying it very much, I didn't eat it in a way that Danes consider normal. One uncle at the table began to mention it and the others told him off, telling him to let me eat however I like haha
      The main reason I wrote this is because I've enjoyed fufu the same way that I've eaten food my entire life, which you would have insisted was wrong.
      The idea of slipping it down my throat doesn't appeal to me. It's something I'd try of course for the principle, but there is not right or wrong way to consume food once it's already in your mouth. It's however you feel most confortable, and that changes from person to person.

    Hello! Like you, I to am living in USA. I live in Indiana. I have been to Ghana five different times. I am actually married to a sweet Ghanaian woman who used to live in Accra. She now lives in Kasoa, Ghana about 30 minutes east of Accra. I love Ghana! Hope you and your new Ghanaian friend are still staying in touch with each other. Fufu is actually made of boiled unripe plantain and boiled cassava which is pounded into that a too sticky dough.

    • @joy_esinam
      @joy_esinam 9 месяцев назад

      The alternative if you don’t have the raw cassava and plantain is to get the plantain flour or fufu flour (cassava, plantain or coco yam), mix with some water and prepare on the stove.

    I've been saying the Osu castle should be open for tourism EVERYDAY, not only on weekends. The govt offices there should be relocated.
    Tourists who can't travel to cape coast should be able to go to Osu and still experience 'slave tourism'

    It's best to eat fufu served. Eating fufu without soup to even we Ghanaians isn't an ideal option. It's super tasty when eaten "IN" the soup with your chicken or meat. Next time i recommend you eat there (the restaurant). Or better still with a Ghanaian friend(s) who'll take you through.

    I'm so sorry for you about your first fufu experience, but it was very funny too 😅, the way you were tossing it between your left and right fingers.
    You should have eaten it at the restaurant, they would have served it well for you.
    You found it super sticky because it was out of the soup. You should have poured the soup over the soup in a bowl to make it easy to handle.
    I hope you get a second attempt 😉

    • @rainbow3649
      @rainbow3649 9 месяцев назад +1

      Fufu is not sweet, there's no sugar in it! Ghanaians should stop using the word SWEET when they mean delicious! Talking to all these foreigners and everyone keeps saying SWEET SWEET, it confuses them, because, in real English, sweet means sugar...we should learn to say delicious, that's the real word for how food tastes.
