Deadly fight between mountain lions partially caught on video

- A residential security camera in Belmont captured parts of a deadly fight between two mountain lions. The video includes the victorious cat dragging its kill. Wildlife experts say this behavior is not uncommon for the solitary animals who can be protective over a limited territory.

In the Santa Cruz mountains, mountain lions are regularly seen. About a third of their diet here consists of house cats which are curious and due to this, are easy prey.
They are easy prey not due to their curiosity but because of irresponsible owners who allow cats outside to fall prey to my lions or cruel people. Also people who dump their cats and do t spay them who we get feral cat colonies.

That would definitely not be how I usually wake up 😂. But I live in black bear country, so I'm always paying attention. It's us who move into their homes, the least we can do is try to be good neighbors. But of course I'm all for self defense when you have no choice.
I can understand males killing each other over territory. But the fact that it dragged the loser's body and left it on someone's door step just shows how petty animals can be. They aren't dumb, that was on purpose. Animals understand us.

Yeah I have domesticated cats... 2 at the house and 2 at the barn. I've cleaned up my fair share of dead or half dead "prizes" left for us. I've also released the live birds, squirrels and bats that we been gifted with.
To say that a wild mountain lion "understands us" is patently false. Since when do wild animals get so comfortable with humans that they want to give us a gift?

I went to College at CND (College of Note Dame) on Ralston Ave. in Belmont back in the 90s. I was hanging out unable to sleep at about 3am and saw one walking through the campus. They are DEFINITELY in the neighborhood.

Fabulous recommendations by the experts. Pumas as I prefer to call them have the ability of leaping 18 ft vertically and 30 ft horizontally. Very elusive creatures. You won't even know they are there in the wild although they could be right in front of you a distance away.

I am remember watching a documentary during big cat week a few years ago that the Biologists stating that the American Mountain Lion (Puma) has the greatest bounding/jumping distance of all big cats!

Right. Someone's door step is like 3x3. If they have a front porch then it's like maybe 4x15 but the narrator describes it as "door step" so I take that right when they walk out.... He had the entire front and back yard(s) as well as the entire street yet he choose that small area to leave the body. He dragged the body from the other side of the road, through the front yard and only dropped it when it was right in front of someone's front door, not window, not garage but their front door. That was definitely done on purpose...

My grandfather told me that the mountain lions are out early mornings and evenings. Not just evenings. So, forget your early morning walks also.
People saying "this is rare and probably caused by humans". The only thing rare about this was that it was caught on a doorbell cam. Big cats, like bears and other Alpha animals will always defend their territory. That behavior is not rare at all and is not cause by humans. It is what animals do in the wild year in, year out.
