Just drove this car for 7 hours into a winter storm and blizzard. If you know how to handle a front wheel drive in 8 inches of snow, this little car is a beast! It has done amazing on our trip. We love it!
Picking up my C-HR next week after two long test drives during which I checked out every complaint in these reviews. I also noticed that the reviews from North America were far more critical than those from Europe. I am 80, wanted an ultra safe, small, easy to park, good finish, comfortable seat car. And this seems to do it. Very few rides with back seat passengers. I can tell my grandson that the windows are better than a plane's. And I will toss in 5 minutes behind the wheel so this3.5-year-old can play pilot. I floored the car to get on a highway bit I NEVER drive that way. Can't wait to get my own. Ten days, but who is counting.
My family just got the North American version which has a 2 litre engine normally aspirated and CVT. Everyone loves it.The handling is exceptional in slippery Canadian conditions. Yes, the rear visibility is impossible without the screen but that works very well.okay, it is not exactly a tire burning roadster but genteel. Toyota has a reputation for longevity and we are hoping for this. Egress and ingress is what sold us as one needs to be able to get into the car which some designers seem to forget. This car is a breeze for getting in and out even for an elderly passenger. Kudos. It is not available in Canada in an all wheel version which was disappointing but it has a lot of weight on the front and seems to have good traction. The interior is pleasant and front visibility is very good indeed. It is quiet and road hugging and apparently good in protecting people if in an accident. The front seats are exceptionally ergonomic and lots of leg room in front. I think it is a winner.
The vehicle is good for ppl with a small family or just a single individual looking for a good Eco vehicle. The ppl complaining wouldn't buy a Toyota anyway so ignore them.
@Natasha I've had it now more than 2 years, and, I can tell you that with good winter tires, the car does handle well. It's no Wrangler, but the traction control is good and the weight is evenly distributed throughout.
why bashing so much this car? i saw it up close and its stunning. i love the back doors are high with small windows i find it exrtemely safer for kids! the handles are awesome as well. Edit : I got so many likes and just noticed it, 3 years later 🤣 I haven't got so many likes in a comment before lol. 😅

Great reviewer! Very informative, while keeping it interesting with jokes and avoiding over-the-top enthusiasm. I have to check out some of your other stuff. Great job!
Lot of people here have a lot to say, without even driving the car in question! My first impression on looking at the car was that of disappointment in terms of the dark and dingy back seat with small windows, reduced boot volume due to the excessive sloping rear window (form before function) and poor rear ward visibility due to the thick C pillar. It is actually quite a large car on the outside with daring new look. The look I can live with and even admire. After two days of thinking about it, I decided to give it a test drive. That is when a lot of things changed. I drove the mixed hybrid model with all the extras. The road stability is very good and the steering quite exact. Toyota has certainly improved the driving dynamics. Even at 140 kmph I could change lanes with full confidence. There was some roll tendency at the round abouts but acceptable on a high rise car. The brakes are very sharp. The standard safety sensors and the extras were very impressive. If it was not for the dingy back seat and the reduced boot space I would definitely buy this car.
Love my Pearl White C-HR! Your critique was fair and on point, it’s not fast and the blind spot is large. The payoff is it will last 200k with minimal maintenance.
Unless you have a 2018 model with the K114 from Turkey. Changed the CVT fluid at 30k miles. I hope it lasts longer than the average of 70k miles before the variator bearing starts to "hum". $10k to replace the K114 and torque converter is what the forums are saying.
I bought the hybrid a few months ago and I freaking love it! Haven't really had any blind spot problems and it uses less petrol than a scooter. It is pretty dark in the back that's true but not much worse than other cars.
You Europeans are so lucky I need a hybrid version since there so much terrain here in Georgia that every two or three days I have to keep filling up my tank for the gas version of my CHR plus gas prices went up.
I agree I got the 1.2 petrol version in the uk we have awful roads it’s smooth the cornering is awesome the ride is quiet and inside at then front there is only the 2 of us it’s luxury the duke and the other one are so common in the uk this oozes class
Perfect car for a cool Grannie like me! Can't wait to get a bright yellow one. My old Corolla will be kept in the family & handed down to my daughter after my mum & dad owned it, then me, now her. TOYOTA's just live on, the most reliable of cars, they just keep going & going.
Good review. My two pence worth...the C-HR is a pretty decent car. The hybrid massively over revs when under any kind of load, which is annoying. Fuel consumption is around 45-47 mpg rather than 70-75 mpg as claimed by Toyota. It's a nice car to drive but will hardly set the world on fire. The brakes feel a little soft and I have had a few moments when I have wondered if the car was going to stop in time but so far, touch wood, it's not let me down. Love the look, it's a real eye catcher. And the interior layout works well. At first I thought the tablet display would be obtrusive but it's not. You are right about the blind spots. Without blindspot detection, which works like a dream, I would have written my car off half a dozen times in the first week. All in all, I think it's a move in the right direction by Toyota.
I test drove an AWD Koba variant this morning... and 2.5hrs later I signed the contract.👍🏻😁👍🏻 I love everything about this car, especially its safety features. It is so interesting looking for a Toyota, which are normally very boring in appearance. I've ordered the white with black roof and now just have to endure the 3 month wait for delivery. 🙄

Nice review, thanks. I just got my C-HR, love it! But you are right, there are lots of hidden buttons, it'll take me a while to figure out how everything works
Your reviews are excellent, Marek. I suggest more of your impressions about four things; 1. brake feel & response 2. Steering effort, accuracy and feedback 3. A brief review of 0-100 kph acceleration 4. Overall handling & ride.
@Marek: I believe these details are relevant to every vehicle, even at lower levels than expensive iron from BMW, Cadillac, Audi, Daimler-Benz undsoweiter.... You're 110% accurate - the C-HR is what we call in the USA a "little shit box" but good looking. (From the land of 2½ - 3 ton Ford F-150s and Chevrolet Silverados where I live, T E X A S) All cars steer, brake and roll down the road, How well or not well? Your video reviews are better than 95% of those done by Americans (who usually speak too fast, use too many words and CONSTANTLY say "um", "ya know" and "I mean")
+Patrick De Haan Thanks. Let me put it another way: unless it is a performance car, I assume it generally handles sufficiently well for what it's been designed to do. I focus on usability, which is what I think really differentiates cars these days. However if there is a noticeable deviation from the norm (i.e. weak brakes, excessive understeer, wooly handling), I mention it.
Very nice review as usual. I rented the hybrid version of this a few months ago in Istanbul, and I loved it. Now that I'm back in the US, I'm seriously considering the purchase of one. The interesting thing is, these vehicles are made in Turkey...the place where I saw one for the first time :)
Thanks for the video. I just bough this yesterday. now trying to figure how to change the meter instructions from Japanese to English. Drove it on a highway and it was as good as my Honda Civic in terms of the comfort and steadiness. Cheers!

What you missed about the 12V socket is that the cover leaves enough space for the USB cable to get out. I keep my phone charging via the 12V socket in one of the cup holders. And when I don't need to charge I just stow the USB cable in the compartment. Looks cleaner.
i was just reading the review of this car on top gear..then suddenly you pop up on my notification that you reviewing the car and test driving it!good job bro! keep it up!
Correction: 1.2 l has the Turbo and it's slightly faster than the 1.8 Hybrid, in acceleration and top speed. The CVT transmission is very comfortable. The AWD is not worth due to the lack of power.
Hey Marek. You have a catchy way of reviewing, so this 10 mins passed quickly without me switching off. As for a C-HR, I find this a good looking car whose beauty one learns only after a lot of time looking at it. The Hybrid works well, but the best bits are overall feeling of quality combined with excitement, finally. Quality alone is boring, but with what this concept represents, I'm confident it turns itself into a well-selling piece here in Scandinavia.
i wonder if we can upsize bigger turbo and remap the ecu for higher boost within the stock engine too bad Singapore do not have the manual transmission variant here
Just bought an XLE Premium for $21,173 USD - Ruby Flare Pearl (red). The car gets a ton of second-take looks and everyone wants to know what it is. It's incredible how many people here know so much about this car from watching just one review. The biggest complaint I see listed here is the visibility. In the US it comes standard (even the base XLE - not premium) with the lane-change warning system, so visibility is not necessary; the car tells you if it is unsafe to change lanes. It's got a lot of safety features and modern tech; 10 airbags, lane correction (if you drift from your lane . . . ), rear cross-traffic warning (for when you are backing in a parking lot), back-up sensors for parallel parking, parking-assist, auto cruise control correction (set it and it will follow the car in front at a safe distance - even at radically varying speeds and down to 1 mph; it will return to your set speed when safe to do so) - all standard. It also comes with auto-warning and braking if it senses an immanent front-end collision; and, in the darkness it senses pedestrians in your path if they are out of your headlamp view but pose a danger the car will brake for you (though you can override it). It also comes with a self-correcting paint that will reduce or eliminate minor scratches (if scratched, it releases a chemical to help "self-correct" (haven't tested this yet), heated seats, keyless entry and start (push a button to start - no need to have key to lock or unlock the door, self correcting windshield visor (automatically reduces sun glare), auto dim rear view mirror and many more standard features. There are almost no features you can add to the car other than a roof rack. They all come standard. The car even senses the key FOB in your pocket, so you don't have to pull it out to lock, unlock OR start the car. When you walk away from the car, it automatically locks it. Although the engine is small, it has plenty of get-up-and-go AND it gets an EPA 27-31 MPG. It's not a performance car, but it is not a factor unless you are insistent on driving like a fool. Under normal driving conditions it has plenty of power - even going up hills. I found a noticeable difference using the sport mode (more pick-up and stiffer suspension). The cargo area is huge for this class - and our 2nd row seats lie flat. Rear passengers can put their feet under the seat, adding about 4-6" of legroom. There is adequate room for two full-size adults in the back to sit in comfort (unless you're over 6'). If you regularly transport a basketball team, this car may not be for you; but for the rest of us, it's reasonably spacious. The interior is a mix of leather (steering wheel cover, shift nob cover and some small trim parts) and plastic. But the plastic is not that cheap hollow plastic found in crappy rental cars. All the nobs and interior parts have a nice solid feel to them. The seats grab you nicely and hold the passenger in-place when cornering (6-way adjustable for both front passengers). My only complaint is the cheap-feeling fabric. I bought a couple faux-leather seat covers that look pretty decent and will protect the fabric. Overall, I think we got a great price for a great car . . . especially being in the SF Bay Area. We negotiated pretty hard, playing dealers off of each other over the phone and internet. We paid an extra $392 for the red color, but that was for business purposes to match our logo. Even with that, the price for the XLE Premium was amazing at $21,173 - especially since the MSRP is around $26,000.
A few more features I forgot to mention (I'll just list them): 1. 18" alloy wheels 2. Auto-folding mirrors (when you park) for parking lots 3. Auto-dimming hi-beams (senses when a car is too close for hi-beams) and returns to hi-beam mode when safe 4. Telescoping steering wheel 5. Bluetooth connectivity 6. Voice recognition and integrated microphone/speaker 7. Dual climate control 8. Heated mirrors (premium) 9. Auto-parking brake set (sets brake when you park) 10. Auto-hold braking (when you stop at a stop light it holds your car place until you press the accelerator - no need to keep foot on brake That's a lot of useful features for a $21,000 car!
I was leaning towards a Chevy Equinox but after watching this review and reading your comments, I am seriously considering this CHR. I’m here in the states (Florida) so no snow worries or hills that need that extra kick. I like the look of it too. Futuristic looking
all this videos is basically all about disclaimers that its slow and all that well trust me I have been close to at least three and that car is amazing and fast when in sport mode or in normal mode so hun I don't know were you got that info or car from
Oi, people in general, stop saying shit about the car! Bad visibility, no room for legs, no big engine, that's not the car, that's how the segment is! Maybe a little more power could help yeah, but for the segment it looks very well made and pretty
Marek, we will be getting the CHR very soon in America, though funny you mentioned the GT86 motor.... we in the US will only get the 2.0-liter engine and Front wheel drive.
Canadian ones get the floor divider, but not the rearview camera in the obvious position of the tablet(?) screen - it's tiny beacause it's stupidly placed in the rearview mirror
You don't get to choose your last name, but seriously now, they could have chosen a better name, something like AASRV - Active Adventure Stealth Response Vehicle - you know, like all the shaving blades, put more exciting words into the product it will make it more appealing :))
***** When you're an adult, you can legally change your last name, but you can't change the name your car is registered as so the car name is more permanent.
GhenghisKhangai I am an adult and as a matter of fact I actually changed my last name. But my point was that the name of a car can be changed during the production process and even after the launch (sometimes this happened due to an error - the Starion/Stallion) and you have from 3 months to 2 years time to came up with a name. It really looks like a lack of inspiration to call it JHDGFHA and that's it.
The satnav is in the perfect place in this, I never got why a lot of car makers put the satnav further down...you can not look at the sat nav without taking your eyes off the road long, I have a Honda civic 2008 and the satnav is in the perfect place too
I have a Honda Crosstour wich is something similar in nature and shape to this vehicle, but Honda cease making the Crosstour since 2016, but if they had pursue a kind of design like this, since it is A similar type of vehicle, it would have done well for them.
Andrew K, Northern Ireland I agree! I'm ignoring the haters. I know it's not the fastest but I like the design and how drives. Plus, I was going to get the Hybrid Version anyway which happens to be faster.
Thank you. People didn't like the Nissan Juke when first launched and yet it became a best seller because of its high riding stance and querky design..
Andrew K, Northern Ireland it wasn't because of the design...let me tell you that. It was the driving dynamics, all wheel drive and turbo power plant. The thing is a rocket with the manual. With a tune and supporting mods it becomes a whole new animal
This is a new platform, so I'm not sure parts from older models fit. Toyota says the new Prius and C-HR are the first cars on this TNGA platform, and they are going to develop new powertrains etc.
I just rented this car, huge blind spot rear pillar. I always feel there is a car in that blind spot. I double check all the time. i bottomed out the front end making a right turn out of a gas station. Funny, I was looking for the twelve volt socket and couldn't find one. My Compass has one in front and two in back. The gas mileage on the screen is 26.7, driving in Orlando, Florida. MPG is not as impressive as people are posting. The sensors go off if move over to the left turn lane and there are reflector markers. I changed lanes to the right and solid white line and the sensor went off. No cars around, so I assume it must be the lines in the road.

Just bought one. Love love love
Your reviews are very fun to watch! The puns are very nice too.. Keep them coming!
Thanks for this review. I was hoping for greatness, I think you pointed out many things it lacks that I'd want.
REALLY nice to see that’s it’s available in an actual manual retransmission overseas. None in USA.
Correction: 1.2 l has the Turbo and it's slightly faster than the 1.8 Hybrid, in acceleration and top speed. The CVT transmission is very comfortable. The AWD is not worth due to the lack of power.
Except dark ambience back seats, it sounds perfect for me… gorgeous car 😍
Thanks!
Judging by the video stats demand is high.
Great review. Informative and funny. Keep up the gr8 work. Your English is very good. Pozdrawiam i czekam az pojawi sie c-hr w USA.
Very nice review!
Thanks!
Great review, really like this car
i wonder if we can upsize bigger turbo and remap the ecu for higher boost within the stock engine
too bad Singapore do not have the manual transmission variant here
AFAIK Toyota will be presenting a performance hybrid version in Geneva this year.
Like this design. Toyota moving the right way in design now on all models.
Good review guy. Extremely informative.
A few more features I forgot to mention (I'll just list them):
1. 18" alloy wheels
2. Auto-folding mirrors (when you park) for parking lots
3. Auto-dimming hi-beams (senses when a car is too close for hi-beams) and returns to hi-beam mode when safe
4. Telescoping steering wheel
5. Bluetooth connectivity
6. Voice recognition and integrated microphone/speaker
7. Dual climate control
8. Heated mirrors (premium)
9. Auto-parking brake set (sets brake when you park)
10. Auto-hold braking (when you stop at a stop light it holds your car place until you press the accelerator - no need to keep foot on brake
That's a lot of useful features for a $21,000 car!
I was leaning towards a Chevy Equinox but after watching this review and reading your comments, I am seriously considering this CHR. I’m here in the states (Florida) so no snow worries or hills that need that extra kick. I like the look of it too. Futuristic looking
all this videos is basically all about disclaimers that its slow and all that well trust me I have been close to at least three and that car is amazing and fast when in sport mode or in normal mode so hun I don't know were you got that info or car from
did u put the front chair as far to behind@@
This was one funny review. thumbs up !
I can't believe its a Toyota that is actually not ugly .
Oi, people in general, stop saying shit about the car! Bad visibility, no room for legs, no big engine, that's not the car, that's how the segment is! Maybe a little more power could help yeah, but for the segment it looks very well made and pretty
Comparatively speaking, it’s one of the best-overall performing Toyota’s if you watched the complete video.
Great review! Thank you.
@@Unfinished_sentenc well said
Amazing futuristic design.. its like you are driving the car of tomorrow
How is the 4wd/awd? Is it a full time system, or does it sense slippage.
With a few bars in back windows becomes a nice jail cell. Nice review.
Marek, we will be getting the CHR very soon in America, though funny you mentioned the GT86 motor.... we in the US will only get the 2.0-liter engine and Front wheel drive.
I wanted to write "lucky you", but then I checked and it seems you're getting a 2.0 144 hp with CVT. Looks like an old European RAV4 engine.
Canadian ones get the floor divider, but not the rearview camera in the obvious position of the tablet(?) screen - it's tiny beacause it's stupidly placed in the rearview mirror
your reviews are great. keep it up
its a shame it lacks power. but at least they are on the right track.
That's surprisingly good looking!
0:09 "What kind of a name is this anyway?" Dude what kind of last name is Wieruszewski? You're not the man to be asking these questions, Marek haha
GhenghisKhangai
I am an adult and as a matter of fact I actually changed my last name. But my point was that the name of a car can be changed during the production process and even after the launch (sometimes this happened due to an error - the Starion/Stallion) and you have from 3 months to 2 years time to came up with a name. It really looks like a lack of inspiration to call it JHDGFHA and that's it.
Wanderfull car
You've just read my thoughts, bro
Good timing, was looking forward to a video of this car
The satnav is in the perfect place in this, I never got why a lot of car makers put the satnav further down...you can not look at the sat nav without taking your eyes off the road long, I have a Honda civic 2008 and the satnav is in the perfect place too
will a chip tuning help for the lack of power in 1.2 petrol ?
I suppose you'll get more power, but it's still a 1.2, so I wouldn't count on longevity and economy, when you squeeze too much out of it.
Great review. Very honest and informative. I love the look of this car and right now its top of my list for my next car.
Great review and nice looking car.
If this vehicle could off road too, this would be one of the very best cars out there
i don't understand why they won't use the 2.5L petrol/hybrid setup from the RAV4...
This is a new platform, so I'm not sure parts from older models fit. Toyota says the new Prius and C-HR are the first cars on this TNGA platform, and they are going to develop new powertrains etc.
I luv your English dud ...keep going 👍🏻
Why are there so many complaints, looks like it has many great features and how many times have you drove that car During that year???
Looks Great ! Love the Design... also love the fact you can get it manual. Overall I love this thing really like the side profile.
Toyota4Life I could see lots of young buyers buying this or those with a small family.
Looks like US isn't getting manual though but they're getting a bigger, little more power engine.
chase miye
horvat
Bold design from the usually "safe" Toyota company. Congratulations!
Your reviews rock!!! Thank you!!!!! Amazing looking car!
I just bought mine and i loooovvveeee iitt!!!!
I'm planning a test drive with the CHR and the KIA Niro because they have a hybrid. I like my Qashqai, but there is no hybrid.
What sort of name is Maria Walrusspewski or whatever it comes out like....
Marek
When you going to show new 2019 RAV4 and what you think of it of previous generation...??
Cheers
Alan
It's coming to Europe next year, and I've been told it looks nothing like the US version :-(
Marek Drives Hi Marek
Thanks for reply and I Love your RUclips Videos 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Here in Canada the 2019 RAV4 is coming later this fall I really love the fact 8 spd transmission with 2.5 engine and I I get Hybrid version Fuel efficiency will be awesome..
Now as per European models I think they been always better more upgraded than US due to high demand market in Europe..I could be wrong tho but it’s what I think.
Overall I’ll be trading my 2016 RAV4 for 2019 I think it’s refined just the way I like it..
And of all of cars I owned it’s one of the Best at least here where I live compare to others on market for Value,Price, and Resale Toyota 😃
Cheers
Alan
You didnt tell us how long the batteries last and how much to replace them....?
What batteries?
@@MarekDrives isnt it hybrid?
Not this particular one.
Marek I’m a teen but when I was a kid I used to hate the LARGE windows same as now this car is amazing for me I’ll sit only on the backseats
I took the 1.8 hybrid out for a test drive and I was v impressed
I love the design.
Does the C-HR have awd or is it fwd only?
There is an AWD option.
another milestone for Toyota, design wise..
anurag silswal because it looks like a civic lol
Hi mate can you do a smart forfour review please department 15 or 16 model
It's basically the same as the Twingo.

An epic review. Thank you
When you are sitting at the back, you think you are in some kind of an armored vehicle
Cockpit vibes
also in the US they have a 2.0 petrol based modell
