Thaks for your video. It answered many questions no one else has addressed such as the best order to reassemble the oil and water hoses. Great exhaust bellows trick!
    Thanks a million for posting.

Thanks for taking the time to put this together. You saved me hours of trial-and-error. Also -- sorry to hear about the under-powered Bayliner.

Thank you! there are some really clever tricks on here that i will be using. servicing the bellows on the early MCM outdrives is a total PITA.

Thank you for the video. I'm about to attempt this on my Chaparral Signature 27 with an Alpha 1 Gen 1. I don't have an oil tube to worry about or the inner ring for the UJ bellows as its held onto the bell-housing with a jubilee clip. I've got all the correct tools, including the expander, so here goes....

Great video- thanks for sharing your "learning moments" for our benefit and for showing the details of the tools and attempts endeavored. I'm a very experienced auto mechanic, but these boat systems are quite different and require some adaptive measures in tooling and practices.

Hi, thanks for the comment, i cut the tool out of a food cutting board. If you purchase the new sleeve i.e. the aluminium ring. Take the outside measurement, trace it onto the board and also the same for the inside and cut on this line. The large outside needs to be exact but the inside needs to engage on the small internal sleeve lip.
Also when you put it together the bearing surface need to engage the inner and outer at the same time, i had to put a small spacer between. Good luck. :-)

great video thanks for sharing, got a question for you though, when you made the tool for the sleeve for the bellow what dimensions did you make it? big hole is what diameter? smaller circle is what diameter also? thanks in advance.. Mike.. they sell the part for 34 bucks and would much rather not spend that when can make for free...

Hi, if you mean the bellows retaining sleeve, it will be obvious as it almost pops into place, you could paint mark before the install. Good luck it's only difficult the first time.

Hi i have re-used one in the past, if it's not bent or deformed then it will be fine, but if you are unsure then buy new as this will keep the water out of the boat. Regards.

No need for adhesive on the ujoint bellows and exhaust on the bell housing side ? That ring really seals the ujoints ?

Great video! Really helped me get mine done this week. I do have one question, you mentioned using a bit of silicon spray to get the bellows ring in. Have you had any trouble with that? I ask because I used a very little bit of 10w30 oil to assist in getting mine on and I am getting some negative comments on one of the forums that I might have problems with it maybe slipping out. I don't really see how that is possible but wondered how your is working.
    Thanks

Hi i used silicone spray asi it dries, don't forget when you bolt the outdrive you will be compressing the thick rubber seal hard against the bellows so you should be fine. :-)

Help, My boat had a leak, and it was repaired $5000 G's later, it still has problems, it went 5 miles and a bang, smell of rubber belt burning, smoke , thank God no fire, It had an MCM alpha transom replaced the bellows replaced ,riser gasket, pipe kit exhaust, starter motor, dexron III trans flu, 17 x 19 absorbant pad, whole load of stuff done, 3000 in parts and 1700 in labor, I am lost and what happened, no belts broke and small amount of water coming in from the outboard somewhere, no sure what it is, or if that's normal, any help here? 1986 Regel

+Jennifer Michelle sounds like your engine coupler went. its directly on the back of your engine bolted to the flywheel. engine needs to be pulled again for repairs if thats your problem.

+Mike Urk Thanks Mike as i missed this comment from last year, agree smell of burnt rubber is the engine coupling, changed mine last year, have since pulled the merc and replacing with a ford marinised diesel van engine. i have put a vid up showing the replacement engine.
