@@theperfectcutlawncare in short, what I've read.... water too much it dies. Not enough it dies. Not enough sun it dies. Too much sun it dies. Under fertilize it dies. Overfertlize it dies. Like all but 2 herbicides damage it. And you have to have a cycle of l at least 2-3 different fungicides on a 2 week cycle. It sounds like a PITA, but if you get it right it sounds like there's nothing better lol. Good luck no matter what you do, we'll be here to watch. If it fails you can always burn it down and go back to rye. We know you can maintain that.
So 2 year update on my putting green I used Bermuda on mine and it still looks amazing I love in southern Alabama and I got a bunch of regular wild grass that grows around my putting green and I constantly have to pull the crab grass out. Best thing that made a difference is putting a boarder around it to keep the regular non putting green grass from spreading the collar actually helped to keep crab grass from spreading but the wind and birds also you can't prevent from seeding crab grass but it stopped it from spreading by growing out into it. It's just really a long process to make a natural grass putting green but Bermuda holds up to the extreme 110 degree heat down here perfectly fine but we also get rain like almost everyday during spring and atleast three times a week during summer so that helps to. But I put a 1/2 inch wide plastic strip between the fringe and green as my boarder and it doesn't affect the ball when chipping as well I built a 9 hole full size course using the same green but just 9 different t boxes from all over my property and it's actually fun cuse I have a huge gigantic green where I have 5 different pins as well to make each hole different kinda
@@theperfectcutlawncareI've got 1200 square feet of bentgrass putting green. If you switch do it right and go full bore. Dig it out at least 10" deep, sand based rootzone, good drainage. Gotta use kiln dried sand to topdress as well which can be tricky to find. Bentgrass is super tricky but the surface is incredible. Can't grow it on natural soil, it'll die the first summer. I'm cutting at .135" and keep it rolling around 10 on the stimp. And faster and it tends to stress a little. I have perennial ryegrass fringes at .350" that I truly love. Deep dark green and just stunning. If you're happy to with the ryegrass I'd keep it! Bentgrass is very much a commitment but if you're willing to go all out it's fabulous.
Thanks for the advice. I agree with doing it right and digging it out. That would be a huge project for me. Rye looks good, but rolls like a bad municipal golf course. One day I will dig and go bentgrass.
I let it grow it. With out an irrigation system it became difficult and costly to water every day in the summer. That low cut rye grass needs daily water in 80+ heat. The rye can handle it with water, however it cost me close to $800 a month the keep it irrigated. So that’s where I am at. Ha, thanks for asking.
Any plans on a fall aeration, sand dressing and overseed? Also what your thoughts on layering material? It’s seems once you start sand you shouldn’t add dirt/peat/compost on top. You still on the higher height out front on the KBG?
As far as I understand the layering is not ideal, and plan on avoiding it. What I’ve noticed with the sand is that it will work it’s way into the soil and can be seeded iwith out adding any organic material after a month or so. I’m hoping to sand level the bluegrass with out the need for an overseed. Bluegrass is still being cut tall; will take it it down in a couple of weeks when I sand. What do you have planned?
@@theperfectcutlawncare …I think I’m just going to aerate, sand top dress and overseed. I got a small area with some Poa A that I may skip and hit it with the pre em this fall and spring. Then I was thinking maybe just aerate, no sand, pre em everything and just push the N. It was a full reno last fall and came in really good so I probably could get away without an overseed.
Both seem good choices. Aerate, sand, and overseed is just so time intensive if your short on time. I’ve never seen your lawn, you need to send me a picture to theperfectcut1@yahool.com if you ever have time.
Thank you, Dominick 👍🏽 I didn’t use any regulator. I like using using it with the bluegrass; Rye comes up so fast that I’m hoping it won’t get crowded out.
I am giving you 5 stars⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ for working on that putting green while wearing the PATRIOTS hat!
Oh heck yeah, Go Pats! Although it could be my next lifetime before they win another playoff game.
Looking great Aaron! 🔥👍🏼
Thank you, Nate 🙏
Nice video. Glad I found your channel. Keep cranking out the great content.
Thank you!!! I’ll do what I can. 👍🏽👌
Awesome video as always and I think sooner or later you'll inspire me to drop a putting green down in my lawn. Keep up the good work!!!
Thank you, Seth! Putting green a lot of work, but it’s enjoyable to take care of and use, highly recommend 👌
Why do you guys level these putting greens? Or golf course level the ones I walked through weren't level. They don't wanna make it easy
Great content! It's amazing how low you are able to take that PRG and still have it look amazing in the heat! Well done
Thank you! Yes that rye can do some crazy things!
Awesome video! The green looked pretty good considering it went untouched for a week pretty much! Can't wait to see more as we get closer to fall
Thank you, Andy! Looking forward to some cooler temps 👍🏽
No words can do this justice 👍💚🦸
Ha! Thank you, Keith 🙌
Can you share a link or advice on where you purchased your cups/pins/tools etc. Really enjoyed your video and your passion
I think you should apply the sand with a drop spreader. Looks great.
That's the nice thing about a rye green, you can use all the usual herbicides and don't have to worry as much about killing the grass
Definitely, stuff can take some abuse. Wondering how bentgrass does with herbicides if I ever go that route.

Lol, yeah I know very little about bentgrass and would likely lose it. But I appreciate your vote of confidence 🙌
Battleship III is a great post emergent herbicide for broadleaf weeds for ornamental grass
That looks good
Thank you! Struggling right now though having neglected it re doing my bluegrass. But we’ll get it back into shape. Cheers
If you want it to roll faster you need to roll the green to really impact that sand. But it looks amazing!
Thanks brotha! Roller helps for sure.
Interesting, taking notes 😊
Yes 🙌

Nice video, where do you store your grass seed. Im afraid my garage will toast my seed
Thank you! I store it in the basement, keeps well down there.
Looking forward to seeing the results. Any plans of switching to a bentgrass?
Thank you, we’ll see what happens. I want to switch, but I haven’t committed to it yet.

Never mind you use the SS9000

What seeds do you plant. Can I find on online
It is the ss9900blend from seed super store. They had some in stock a few weeks ago. Not sure if there is any left. Been a shortage lately
What brand of perennial ryegrass did you use?
I used ss9900 from seed superstore.
Hi, is it SS9900? And from where you bought these seeds? Thanks.
Ss9000 from seed superstore
@@theperfectcutlawncare thank you.
I would overseed it with bent grass. The two work at points the other doesn't
👍🏻
Thank you 🙏
if u wanted to get a more level green it can help to use a seed spreader to apply the sand.
Can we see you play this like a full putting session .
