Wearing pants doesn't mean they want to be a "man". There is a reason why CO's are required to wear pants and tie their hair up into pony tails or buns. For one, when there are prison riots or general fights how do you expect a CO to intervene with a skirt on and heels??? As for the hair, it is easier to pull hair and put the person in a headlock when the hair is down, whereas when your hair is tied it decreases the chances of being grabbed and put into a headlock. If a male CO had long hair they would have him do the same or have it cut. Nothing to do with emulating men, its just rules to keep female CO's safe.
No, they emulate men by competing “how obnoxiously Butch can I dress and sculpt and appear? To look like a man with no testosterone?” Contest. I was hallucinating and crawling around on the floor like a drunkard yet unable to sleep bc my skin was crawling. I'd say with a high enough dose not used to it. But everyone is different. Sad thing about this piece is that the piece failed to discuss why these women got put in these positions in the first place. There needed to be a connection between the financial inequality and the laws that makes regular folks criminals (not talking about the murderers, just everybody else). Other thing is, these women were shameful of being in jail. The Prison Industrial Complex has since privatized and gotten into the business of glorifying prison so much people love bragging about going to jail as if it were a resume booster. On another note, I wonder now how many women are in jail for non-violent, non-criminal offenses (like traffic violations, homelessness, debt, etc.) It would be interesting to see that and the stats that Ava Duveray pointed out that women are being incarcerated almost six times as much as men.
Debt is not a crime in the US and Debtors Prison is long gone, but I see your point. They should have mentioned why they were there. They looked like they were all depressed and miserable in the “best” prisons.
@@daynasafranek7807 Debt IS a crime in certain states. Owe on child support, a debt, and you will be in jail. TX is the first state to put people in jail for owing on student loans.

Jail is never fun, but cigarettes AND Valium? UNHEARD OF, nowadays. I wonder what these women would think of jail today, where people are treated as cattle; I’m sure they were treated as such back then as well. And the time doesn’t seem to fit the crimes in this video. And unfortunately, I think that has to do with race and society in general back then
Ashton Evans I couldn’t concur more. While I see little tweaks that show a minor difference (or major- take away my Valium & I’m a dead woman), it’s unfortunately fundamentally the same.

Isaiah 42:22 Kjv “But this is a people robbed and spoiled; they are all of them snared in holes, and they are hid in prison houses: they are for a prey, and none delivereth; for a spoil, and none saith, Restore.” King James Version (KJV)
Mass incarceration for women appears to have not changed much, especially for women of color. A womens needs are not being addressed, they are paying the price by being incarcerated, and so are we, but when does the rehabilitation, and family healing start? The children suffer and get caught in the system when there are no safety nets. This cycle is vicious. Lord help us all.
James Foster im glad u think committing a crime and having to do actual work to pay your debt tp society is not the same as innocent people being stolen from a homeland. And that's not to say that their circumstances may have forced them to think they had 2 do something illegal and thats assuming that thats the case but alot of successful people have come from very bad circumstances. Hate 2 assume that you're excusing bad behavior regardless of color.

Slavery was legal in amerikkka way back in the day, that was before the prison industrial complex--now a days.
America has the most unfeminine women in the world nowadays.
Hell the Black women today period want to be men! SMH 1love
No, they emulate men by competing “how obnoxiously Butch can I dress and sculpt and appear? To look like a man with no testosterone?” Contest. That butch lesbian corrections officer look just kills me and makes me feel blinded. I ain’t a hater on gays, I just don’t see the point in looking like Obnoxious Butch Intentionally. I’d rather look away. Thank god ive never been in jail or prison.
Sounds like US school system.

Dumbing down of US education. Mind Control. Check it out.

This why I keep God in heaven first
Wow prison was so different back then
Not really
Babies in prison. The saddest thing ever.
not sorry please baby is next criminalist genetic infect from bad mather
rich people will never end up like this, its when you have no money and family.
They gave out Valium and Seroquel?! Holy cow man that stuff will get you higher than a kite. What were they thinking?!
@sara Allison aka Miss true Freeman I was on 600 mg once bc my psychiatrist was trying to help my insomnia. If you take a high enough dose it will make you hallucinate which happened to me. Had to go to ER and flush it out. I had been on 50 mg prior then 100 and so on but I went to 600 too quick for my body. I was hallucinating and crawling around on the floor like a drunkard yet unable to sleep bc my skin was crawling. I'd say with a high enough dose not used to it. But everyone is different. I personally never touched it again. Not even at a low dose. Too scared.

I Wonder If Any Of These Women Still In Prison????
Sister at 11:00 was swagged out !! Her whole demeanor said that she was not going to let her surroundings bring her down.. she understood more than what was said!! 💪🏽💪🏽
Yesss! Is she rocking that applejack hat or what!?! Just like you said girl...SWAG! If that's how she is doing it in prison I know that she is swaggalicious out in these streets!
She was glowing and beautiful
Just like I stopped drinking because I couldn't afford it out here, I also would stop smoking because I couldn't afford it in there. There is no way I would do all that hard work and waste my money on a carton of cigs.
They had some big, beautiful afros.
That afro on the light sister mean o my
Calvin Purnell... Yes!!!
Plus the way she carries herself, regal. Like she could be a queen if she wasn’t in prison.
Yes, it was fierce.
Yes, it was 🔥
The warden looks like Bram Stoker's Dracula.
That's basically slavery going on in there that has to be another form of slavery going on in that jail
I can't even tell these women are "narcotics" users. They look good. Prison now and prison then , like night day.
magenta-fortunately the insane war on drugs is gradually ending..Before 1914 all drugs in in usa were legal, and the country did not collapse.
I was thinking the same thing about narcotics
Maybe they were selling narcotics
It’s was probably for
Weed or psychedelics.
Enjoy all your movies and documentary keep bringing them 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
When the lady was walking in line. The lady with the pink blouse dress& pants on looked like ARETHA FRANKLIN 🌹 Look like The Blues Brothers was about to start 🎸🎤. These Lady's ❤️ are Beautiful
WOW! Very powerful documentary.
So basically they teach these women to have low self esteem
@@articulatemadness seriously?
I don’t think women are being locked up more than men. That’s a lie
"Turn around and show me the bottom of your feet...One at a time". Lmao... She's standing up in the shower, was it really necessary to add the last part?
Shiiiiiiiiit I knew a young fella that kept a sharp paper clip in the calcium builds on the bottom of his feet
@@Thorium_Th huh
The wages for the jobs are criminal.
And they remain largely the same. See Angola State Prison. V
Jail is never fun, but cigarettes AND Valium? UNHEARD OF, nowadays.
I wonder what these women would think of jail today, where people are treated as cattle; I’m sure they were treated as such back then as well.
And the time doesn’t seem to fit the crimes in this video. And unfortunately, I think that has to do with race and society in general back then
OMG you're actually WOKE💯no offense tho
Connie Moore What do you mean?
Not just back then but the same today and it hasn't changed.
Ashton Evans I couldn’t concur more. While I see little tweaks that show a minor difference (or major- take away my Valium & I’m a dead woman), it’s unfortunately fundamentally the same.
Today also, the global system of white supremacy hasn't stopped.
Atleast the inmates got to smoke back then and a legit bed to sleep on things have changed a whole lot since then
Reading your statement, I'm 98.5% sure u missed or ignored the entire point of this documentary.
God bless those ladies. Depending on how old they was in 1974 their 60 + to 80 + years old now. 10:45
Wonder how many of these ladies made it to 2020..? Value my Freedom Like I Value my Life.. Unfortunately tomorrow is Promised to no one.. Be Careful out there folks..
80,000 women incarcerated in 1974 231,000 women and girls 2018
Very effective and emotional thanks for posting these treasure programs from 70's proving that after half a century nothing has changed
rule jail learn no treasure criminal person no know limit have bad habit jail learn dyscipline
At least I could say the prison was clean back then and they have beds to sleep on. These prison today is nasty and and dirty . They have to sleep on the floor it's very sad
Prison always been nasty even when it look clean
Black women were so slim back in the day.
Yehp, But this food today has a lot of steroids in it and back then a lot of outside games to play without being shot, today most stay on computers and video games, don't exercise or anything. Some of them it's genetic. Myself for me I'm 140bls 5'4 and and 55yrs old. I play games outside growing up and Roller skated most of my life. It's also genetic for me to be slim. Thank you Jesus ❤💯😊
Generalization is ignorance.
That figure of 80,000 female prisoners cited in this program is now at 220,000.
If i was in prison, I would just read. I would join the library. Once you know English and maths, you can't go wrong in life.
Most of these women have to be between 80-100 years old by now. I pray they found peace and serenity over the years in this one life we get
16:53 she look evil and everything she said was evil.
Isaiah 42:22 Kjv
“But this is a people robbed and spoiled; they are all of them snared in holes, and they are hid in prison houses: they are for a prey, and none delivereth; for a spoil, and none saith, Restore.”
King James Version (KJV)
Shole is I remember a lot of scripture about today..TMH is on his way 🤲🏽
Mass incarceration for women appears to have not changed much, especially for women of color. A womens needs are not being addressed, they are paying the price by being incarcerated, and so are we, but when does the rehabilitation, and family healing start? The children suffer and get caught in the system when there are no safety nets. This cycle is vicious. Lord help us all.
All them damn pills🥴
I wish we knew what became of these women after the documentary.
Slave labor
James Foster im glad u think committing a crime and having to do actual work to pay your debt tp society is not the same as innocent people being stolen from a homeland. And that's not to say that their circumstances may have forced them to think they had 2 do something illegal and thats assuming that thats the case but alot of successful people have come from very bad circumstances. Hate 2 assume that you're excusing bad behavior regardless of color.
Upgraded Concentration Camps
Just Bree and what about the INNOCENT ONES?
Some things never change
Still going on today but much much bigger sad
Thankyou for sharing.
Why are they smiling at the female prisoners pain and suffering? The lady embarrassed about soiling herself is not funny.
Love this channel bro you be find these peaces of gold thank you keep um cumin beautiful women jail dose no take there goddess away
The jail wasn't so loud and rowdy then.
Thank you for sharing, as I try to share also. You are most respectful sir.
Did anyone notice that almost all the prisoners had combed hair that was well kept?
probably for the cameras
Thanks for sharing the reality of prison time
